    1972 Datsun 521

Recently picked this up for my 16 yr old son. He's been a big fan of old Datsun's ever since I got my dime. Its a project but a good start.

  3. I still cannot get the car started even after wiring it like the write up says. I checked for spark at the spark plugs but I have nothing there. There is power to the coil and HEI module. The thing I dont understand is why there is power to both the pos and neg side of the HEI and coil. I connected the black and white wire which is switched 12 volt. to the pos side of the coil. Im sorry but I am not very familiar with electrical. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. This is the Dist that came with the L20 I purchased out of a running car. These are the wires coming from the front of the car. These are the 2 wires coming from the inside of the car. I think they are ignition. This is the way the car was wired with the L16 and running a Pertronix set up.
  4. banzai510, could you call me so I can explain what I have. this is easier for me to explain. Thanks. Danny 805-709-2695
  5. How can you test to see if the Gm HEI module is not fried? I wired it all up like it explains in the write up but still cant get my dime started? Thanks.
  6. Thanks all.
  7. When I originally installed the motor I used my dist and coil and was able to get the car running. The issue is that before my L16 took a dump it was running rough. The motor that I bought was running good when it came out of my buddies car. When I installed the L20 with my ignition it had all the symptoms that my L16 had and this is why I want to hook up the L20 Dist and HEI module. I know that the L20 was running good in my buddies car. The other issue is that the Elect dist that my buddy was running is not an El dizzy. It is a datsun but Im not sure what it is. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hi all, I recently bought an L20 from another member on here. I installed the motor and am trying to use the ignition that was on his car. It is a Datsun elect dist with a GM HEI pack. When he pulled the motor he didnt make notes on how wire up the ignition. I have searched and was able to find several links on how to wire up the HEI but none of them mention how to eliminate the ballast resistor and hook up all the remaining wires. Please help. Thanks. Danny
  9. Very Nice Dime!!!
  10. Are you interested in selling just the motor? If so how much? Thanks. Danny
  11. Some recent pics of the Dime.
  12. I'll be there at 6:15 also. If no one else meets here than I might go up to the IE and meet those guys. Danny
