  1. Hey, it's been a while since I last posted and an update is well over due. If someone could also move this to the project section that'd be great as well. So once the engine and trans where out I stripped the asphault like material that was coating the engine bay. The front of the car never felt very solid and I had some down time so I decided to stiffen it up a bit by stitch welding the bay. I had a few small fires but I'm pretty happy with the end result. Also decided to make some fender braces out of some 1" square stock I had laying around the garage. I feel these are gonna make a huge difference, if i hit one with a hammer you can hear it resonate across the whole front of the car :) Gave the bay a fresh coat of paint. Got Griffin radiator off of summit and after making some brackets I got it mounted. Fits perfectly, the outlet comes out at kind of a goofy angle but I dont think thats gonna be an issue. Meanwhile I was giving the ka24e a much needed refresh. Bottom end got new bearings and piston rings along with some arp headstuds and a Felpro headgasket and oil pan gasket. And up top I replaced the valve seals and lapped the valves. Replaced the timing components and got it all back together. Burned out all the beaten up old rubber from the engine mounts and replaced it with some 60a urathane. Make sure to put a big washer and a spot weld or 3 on the inside of the new bolts to help hold everything together! Installed an Fx 11.5 lb Flywheel, ACT clutch and hd presure plate. I replaced the pilot bearing using a sclice of bread, I felt like an idiot shoving a bunch of bread into the back of my engine but it worked really well. The ka throwout bearings inner diameter was 40mm while the one required by the Z trans was 41mm so I got one from autozone and then the engine and trans went together with no complications. The brackets for the bottom two holes where different so I just excluded them And this is pretty much where I'm at today. I ran the KA efi harness through the firewall and now I start the oh so dreaded wiring. I'm sort of confused about a few things so if anyone wants to chime in that be great. 1) How much of the chasis harness should I retain? I know the alternator/charging system is part of it. Is it as simple as swapping the plug from the KA harness to the chasis harness or is there way more to it? 2) I'll need the feed the ka ecu power from the ignition through a relay correct? Im just starting to dig into the wiring so I'm sure I'll be back with more questions once I figure it out a bit more. Thanks for reading!
  2. *Edit: Could someone move this to the project forum Hey everyone I just joined and wanted to say hello. My names Fil, I'm 24, and live in the Chicago area. I'm relativly new to Datsuns and Nissans but I've been working on cars since I've been able to drive. This fourms been a great resource when trying to find bits of information about the 1980 200sx I purchased over this last summer and I've been finding that almost every google search I do brings me back here. But enough small talk heres some pics. I plan on doing a bit of work over the up comming winter. The car drives like the suspension hasnt been maintained since the 80's, it has some rust I plan on fixing sooner rather than later but over all it's managed to survive mostly in tact, the rear end has been welded by the previous owner, and the engine seems to have been neglected over its 120k. But besides all that I love this car, the feeling I get while driving it is simply unexplainable. I'm currently thinking of puling the z20e and plan on replacing it with a ka24e for the time being. To my understanding the ka will mate to the factory z trans with no issues correct? My current goal is to give this thing the refresh it needs untill I pick up a proper daily. This car will most likely see some track days and I just want to make sure it will be able to handle any abuse I may throw its way :)
