Lostcause521

As these things often do, my 521 project was killed by a new job, a new baby and a new place to live. I'm parting out my 521, which includes a good glass all the way around, a good pair of doors, front fenders, and hood, 4 speed unknown condition and l20b disassembled with freshly machined cylinder head. Parts available for pickup on weekends only for the next month.

The peanut head is more than .020 warped and the the u67 is .016

It's already been milled before and its out of speck. There are not a lot of these engines left in SoCal these days and when they pop up in the junk yard they are picked clean in days.

I got my U67 head checked out and it's warped but rebuildable for $400+. I pulled an a87 peanut head from the junkyard for $50 and it's warped as well. What are my chances of getting a strait head in a junkyard and how much warp can be tolerated by these engines?

My local Nissan dealer has the bushings for $4 each. I'm doing mine real soon.

I pulled my l20b head to have a little looksie and I curious if anyone would call this exessive carbon buildup. The tops of the pistons look about the same. <a href='http://i.imgur.com/dM2OgmN' title=''><img src='http://i.imgur.com/dM2OgmN.jpg' alt='' title='Hosted by imgur.com' /></a> I bought this engine clean as a wistle, freshly painted, but a few things didn't add up, like missing exhaust manifold bolts and a beat up oil pan. I don't know if I should go any farther freshening it or just bolt it back together. The bores look smooth, with only a little bit if a ridge at the top of cyl 1.

I like the powder coating, looks great.

Has anyone removed the 521 padded vinyl and painted the metal cap? I want a colormatched dash and I love the smooth metal cap in the 520. What does the metal underneith the vinyl look like and does it have the potential to look like a 520 dash?

I have seen a couple, one just recently in Hesperia but I don't think it's still there.

Will a 620 windshield fit a 521? I see a lot of good 620 glass in the local junk yards.

If anyone in the Bakersfield area is heading to the LKQ this weekend can you look at the 521 and let me know if it is a short or long tail transmission. I am in need of a short tail transmission mount and pedestal but it's a 3+ hour drive for me.

I haven't been on Ratsun long, but it was a very cool (and a little strange) moment when I came across pictures of my truck in my garage on a Google image search for Datsun 521. Then I looked at the page link and it was my post on Ratsun! Boom, I'm google famous! :w00t: B)

So I'm mocking up an early 620 driveshaft and 4 speed transmission in a 521 (the previous owner removed the engine mounts, transmission mount and driveshaft bearing support crossmember, yea fun) and the transmssion looks too far forward to me. The nessessary transmission mount looks much longer than anything I have seen online, but it seems to put the engine in the right place. The service manual only mentions a long tail transmission. I have been told that the 620 driveshaft is the right length, so what am I missing?

I can write one up when I get it done, I can't use the dash ebrake because my knee is in the way. I have a hand break assembly off a 90's honda civic, which bolts to the floor, but I haven't worked on the cable setup yet.

I have the complete bracket assembly you can have as I am switching to a floor break. I'm in SoCal.
