  1. Sorry for the late reply, i mounted the sensor on the dash, so it gets good reception. The gps speedo has been working the whole summer without any problems, it was worth every cent
  3. Thank you Atomic, nice to see another “crazy” Finn on this forum  working on an old Ratsun . I bought the gauges in 2013 and it seems like the price has risen a bit from that, despite of that they still very affordable. The tachometers they sell are quite porn to, check it out: http://stores.ebay.com/springautoparts/
  4. So i got the cams and timing chain installed: My 6 year old helped me to get the turbo mounted: The valve cover, WG, timing chain and water pump smacked together. I ordered a custom billet oil filter cap with pressure and temp sensor tapping from china, dirt cheap 35,00€ shipped to Finland and the quality of the craftsmanship was surprisingly good.
  5. Got the head installed, shit is moving :) And I found, ordered and received a gear knob I liked.
  6. So, to change the timing chain you have to remove the belt pulley. There is / was only one problem, it sits like hell I think it’s torqued to +300nm from factory. I’ve been trying to get it loose on and off for two months, I bought an impact wrench, no luck. I went and rented an even bigger Impact wrench, no luck. I got feed up and went and fetched a big-ass washer and some old 2” water pipe and some other random metal. Welded it all together, went to the garage and pulled like hell and something gave after, I didn’t break anything the freaking bolt I LOOSE… Finally !!! :D Previously my gear knob looked like hell; it was time to do something about it. This is how it looked before: Because the bmw shifter comes true the floor slightly differently the factory original shifter boot couldn’t be used. So I decided to make a new one that fitted the factory screw holes. I started out with making a paper model. While I was making the boot I realized that I needed to find a place for my boost, exhaust temp meter and a place for the A/C power button. So I decided to integrate it in the factory console at the same time. Now that I knew where the A/C power button was to come I had all the needed information to start customizing the Suzuki A/C harness, I stripped all the extra wires and soldered all the connections and wrapped it all up. This is how it looked: Cable harness finished and tested (it works :D ) Finished product: (during this process no original Datsun parts where harmed :D )
  7. Hahaa, Graveltrapp you are almost spot on about the Finnish summer you only forgot about the mosquitos :D Thank you about the complements. If somebody is interested to see more about the Toyota project you can check out my tread -> http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=22501&start=0
  8. This is sooo badass, go with the bear metal look, just deactivate the metal with acid before you apply the clear.
  9. Datsfun Thank you, I am very pleased with this car. I know the grill Is an non SSS but I like this one better. About the Cluster, yes it’s quite intriguing how we got the simpler cluster. I was looking for an RHD cluster for long but I didn’t find one, so I decided to salvage the one I had. (And cover the radio hole and some gauges there instead :) ). Are the parts in the picture by any chance yours? In case they are, are you interesting in selling any parts? I got two front bumpers with the car, one in very good condition and one with some extra drilled holes, I will try to push the intercooler a bit back and install one of the bumpers on the car, which one I will decide at that point when I see if the installation requires any modification of the bumper (Don’t want to destroy the good one.) Bonvo: I didn’t receive a front valance (or the missing pieces) with the car; I have searched for one without any luck… I’m thinking about making one myself (I know it’s difficult piece, but so was many of the pieces I made for my ke35 rolla). I would only need very detailed pictures of an original valance and as many measurements as possible from a factory original valance, can anybody help me by providing measurements and pics?
  10. Nope, we officially only got the 160j in Finland what I am aware of. Most of them are gone thou ; they basically melted away on our heavily salted and icy roads back in the 70:S and 80s.
  11. My luck :P When I bought the car none of the gauge cluster background lights worked. So I decided that I would change the light bulbs. After fought for I while I managed to get the cluster lose… this is what I was faced with: The previous owner had hit the meter metal brace and and circuit board with a Dremmel like a cannibal hits a school bus. He deleted every background light connection, high beam indicator and messed up the watertemp circuit. All this to get the tachometer in the center, -“in true racing spirit”. So after I many hours of welding, gluing, troubleshooting and reverse engineering I managed to transfer the tachometer to its original location, most of the background lights working and I got the GPS speedo installed instead of the earlier Non-working HAL-driven BMW speedometer. And because none of you read anything I wrote, Here is a oic instead of the finnished meter:
  12. Hell, I’ve got to say, I like your car… I mean, I really like it… *off to the toilet* Just kidding, your car looks good. I hope I someday find a s30 and get it looking half as descent as yours.
  13. The oil pressure, oil temp, water temp and volt gauge are all 50mm. They cut me back 25$ each, dirt cheap but all the previous meter I’ve owned of the same brand worked like a charm. The GPS speedometer cost me 95$ including the antenna, much easier to install then mechanical speedometers or the hall impulse driven ones. Size 85mm.
  14. Cool engine swap and nice looking shell. Sounds to me like we are married to the same women, my wife said almost exactly the same thing when I brought home my 160j sss.
