  1. So here's what we figured out. The hei module only likes to see a spiral core plug wire not solid core. Changed plug wires and have had no issues with it dieing.
  2. I made a one of these are while back. Used it in my king cab. Worked great for quite a while. Was making a trip from las vegas to socal. Only problem I had was when the ambient temperature in the cab became the same in thee cooler it was pretty much just moving air around.
  3. Ok. Here goes, each time motor has died in have had probe at each terminal to watch for any power loss. None reported. Unplugged and or disconnected various circuits looking for a culprit to no avail
  4. New switch. No loss of power at coil when it dies
  5. Only reason I haven't checked spark is once motor dies turn key off and back on then it fires right up. If I try to start without turning switch off then back on it just turns over with no start.
  6. Coil not hot. Nothing getting hot. Does it with stock coil and a gm coil.
  7. Wired hei module in, ran perfect with original ignition before upgrade. Now truck shuts down after a minute or two. On 3rd hei module with same results. Air gap is good. Checked and at .012. I'm at a loss. Have run this setup on other trucks no issue. Now this one comes along and shuts down. I can turn power off and back on and it will start right up run for a minute or so then die
  8. Made it to work and back with out an issue. Think the alternator was the whole problem.
  9. Made a 50 mile round trip and all is well ao far. Guess first replacement alternator was a dud so got another new alternator and it works. Thanks for all the advice.
  10. So far so good. Going to a local meet tonight and hope all is well.
  11. So I changed alternator this morning again with another brand new one. The noise has been greatly reduced but still somewhat audible. Water pump and pulley were changed after belt began breaking. Stock size belt was what I originally replaced with than tried larger belt after 4 or 5 broken stock size belts.
  12. Well, I'm at a loss. I have unplugged everything that I can and still allow truck to run. I guess it won't hurt to change the alternator again. Wish me luck.
  13. Did. brand new. not a reman.
  14. Again sorry for the lack of any update. I finally got to start chasing some wiring. Figured out if I unplug ignition relay draw noise on alternator goes away but it also stops charging. Ignition relay has four wires. 1 black and 3 black with white stipe. Black is ground. After tracing black w/ white striped wires 1 goes to coil. 1 goes to fuse block 1 goes to an electric fuel pump that is nonexistent. Changed coil, no difference. Changed ignition switch, no difference. Only thing I have not done is chased wires to where fuel pump should be. Also I might add 1 of the BW wires feeds multiple things in the cab
