  1. Did you get my PM? Dibs on the header!! Thanks!
  2. Gawd damn there are some really retarded pix in that set. Screw you Max! Anyhow we're having a lot of fun (and pain) with the project. We're about to bring it back to life! I keep my fingers crossed.:blink:
  3. Hey there mate! Me and my bud we have a Z20E out of a 81 200sx with EFI and O2 sensor. Last time I cranked it, it worked fine. We're kind of looking to convert it to carb. However it would have to be *very* soon since we're entering in the November 22' Thunderhill 24 hours of LeMon race with it. So either I convert it *right now* or after the race but that is only if the car survives it! ;-) I wish I had seen your post earlier now... :-/ You got PM too!
  4. You have a 730HP daily driver?? :blink::blink::blink:
  5. I put down my 5 stars! Cool truck!
  6. Thanks for the input guys. This will definitely help. When I mean "delete" I really mean "not put back on". The engine along with all the emission control contraptions are currently sitting outside the car in pieces. So the less I have to put back together the better. :D Also I don't feel like replacing the zillion crusty vacuum hoses... No one has chimed in on the Vacuum *control* valve yet. It's the little thingy on the intake manifold... what do you guys think? Cheers.
  7. The 24 hours lemons rules specify a max db level for exhaust. Basically glasspacks are the absolute maximum we can go for.
  8. Hi guys, me and my friend Hybridchemistry we intend to run an old busted 1981 200sx (s110) in the 24 hours of lemon. (http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/). If you've missed my "hello" thread, I am new here and I shall post all about this fantastically stupid project in the project thread very soon. So far we've been rebuilding the engine and are looking for ways to cheaply increase power a bit. Since the 24 hours of lemons rules are very strict on prep budget ($500 max for car + prep) and since we spent already $250 for the car and about as much for gaskets + rings + misc stuff to rebuild the engine, we're looking at um... not much left. :D So when I say "cheap ways of improving performance" I should really say $0.00. As you all probably know the s110 has the Z20E (lame), NAPZ (LAME!), engine *WITH* injection (SUPER LAME!). To me the thing is a testament to overly engineered, overly complicated, early 80's injected non-sense. But maybe someone in here can prove me wrong? Now if I had more money than sense I would probably buy some mikunis side draft carburetors, rip out the ECU + injectors, add the Z18ET turbo and exhaust, etc... but that would never fly with the lemons judges at the BS inspection and they would slap me 1,000 laps. (and that would be generous of them). SO! Since this car is NOT intended to be street legal, my idea for now is to take out as much as possible of the emission control system + increase air flow. Now the following is going to give some peoples a heart attack. Keep in mind that I know next to nothing concerning emission control so this is NOT what I actually plan to do. This thread is mainly aimed at getting constructive comments from knowledgeable peoples who know way more than I do and tell me whether those mods are realistic or not. The schematics are taken from the shop manual for the specific year and model for the car and the Haynes manual. Crankcase Emission Control System. This mod seems like a no brainer. I am not too sure about the idle screw. It is not present in the 1980 model for some reason... EGR This also looks like a no brainer. Fuel evaporation system WHY can't the fuel system be simpler? Fuel in, fuel out, done? no? Vacuum control valve This is really meant to minimize back firing... do I care? Vacuum switching valve WTF is this for??? Both the Haynes and the shop manual are very terse about this little guy. delete? Catalytic converter + muffler Delete, replace with straight pipe + glasspack. yes? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the welcome guys! I have updated my profile as some of you suggested. Anyhow we've been working on this car for a while now the biggest hurdle is learning how to do it all because we're complete idiots for all thing mechanical. Some the things we've done so far: 1. pulled engine/tranny. (this is me in the engine bay) 2. ripped all the trimmings/headliner/seats inside 3. mac guyvered a push start ignition (the key ignition was broken when we bought it) :sneaky: (the second toggle switch is to engage the warp drive :lol:) 4. teared down engine completely. 5. reground crank + rods 6. new sparks plugs, rod + main bearings, rings, valve guides, full gasket set. 7. thoroughly cleaned intake, exhaust, heads, etc... 8. new timing chain + gear. 9. resurfaced flywheel. 10. Home made port and polish. (oh yes we're that stupid) etc... Things I would like to do: 1. EGR + cat + muffler delete (this ain't going to be street legal when we're done with it trust me but it doesn't need to be) 2. Glasspack / fart cannon. 3. bigger MAF / looser spring on MAF 4. Z18ET exhaust + turbo (where can I find this?????? help!!) 5. other emission control delete. (input? anyone?) 6. bigger throttle body. 7. lower/springs shocks. 8. H190 rear axle upgrade. 9. H190 LSD (help? anyone?) 10. over size rad + oil rad. 11. any other ideas? Anyhow there are a lot of pics that I intend to post of the rebuild process. FYI if you're local to us we're still looking for a 4th team member! Cheers!
  10. I thought I'd start by introducing myself. Hi everybody my friend Hybridchemistry introduced me to this forum and I like this place so I thought I'd sign up too! The both of us got into Datsuns because we picked up a really busted 1981 200sx one day (s110) and we thought we'd try to enter this fine piece of machinery in one of the 24 hours of Lemons race. (http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/). This is our baby after we got it. We got it for $250 and after replacing only the sparks plug, air filter and put in fresh motor oil in, it actually passed smog!! :blink: Despite the fact that it had spun rod bearings, leaky pistons, busted slave clutch cylinder a hole in the muffler and shady injector wiring. (it's true what they say about Datsun being indestructible!) Anyhow we're almost done rebuilding the engine at this point and (sadistically) enjoying every minute of it. I hope that I'll find some good peoples here willing to answer my stupid questions for my amateurish rebuild process! :lol::lol: Cheers!
