  1. The release bearing was replaced when the clutch was about 8k ago and greased...but your right....(as always) might as well replace it too while its out just to be on the safe side! THANKS again!!! I was looking for a needle bearing for mine...but couldn't seem to track any down...any idea if that's the same size needed for the stock engine/tranny for the dime?
  2. THANKS Mike! to my rescue once again! I thought that it might be the release bearing but wouldn't it make noise every time the clutch is used? this only does it when I am at a standstill and press the clutch. as soon as I let the clutch out and the car starts going, it stops. never when going to second third or forth. (oh to have a fifth gear!!! lol) . only first and reverse from a dead stop..so I figured pilot bushing as that's the only time the input shaft is not spinning at the same speed as the flywheel. Also, it doesn't do it right away even at a standstill...kinda like press the clutch...releases the clutch disk which is splined to the disk...the input shaft starts to slow down to a different speed then the flywheel...then it does it...until I engage it even just a little which gets the input shaft back up to speed... wow..if anyone can make sense out of all that gibberish....I got a case of beer for you! lol!
  3. Ok...so I am pretty sure my pilot bushing is heading south as there is an occasional squealing sound when I press the clutch in and sitting still (such as sitting in my driveway or at a light). When I let the clutch out it stops...It started a couple weeks ago but would only do it when it was cold and go away after I got going a bit. I could drive all day and it would not do it again (heat expansion I guess) I haven't had the time to fix it so I haven't been driving it much but have the time to replace it today as it's starting to do it more. I got the bushing but nowhere in any of the manuals I have does it say to oil or grease the pilot bushing. I know some "oilite" bushings don't require it but from what I have read, that is only for a pure brass/bronze oilite bushing and the info on all the bushings I looked up said nothing of the nature of the bushing. Some info says soak it in oil over night, some don't and I think that depends on if it's an oilite or not...ACK! Being that it is right there near the clutch, I am assuming you don't just slather grease all over it as it could get on the clutch and then there are even more issues....... This is for the stock 4 spd tranny and L16 in my 69 510, clutch is new and If I remember correctly, the pilot bushing was replaced then so who knows why it went out so quickly. so....grease? no grease? if so...what kind? any suggestions would be GREAT!!! THANKS in advance!
  4. sweet! that is exactly what I was looking for! THANKS HAINZ!!!! I didn't want to run anything through the stock fuse box as it's really just for the basic's and like prev mentioned...would overload it. I was hoping there was a way to do exactly what you mentioned for more add ons! THANKS for the reply's! it's all going in today!
  5. Hey guys, I am puttin in a couple electic fans using a spal fan controller as well as a couple gauges into my 69 dime. the wiring diagram for both calls for a few wires to be hooked up to keyed on only and was wondering where the best place to tap/splice a wire into is. this is on a L16 so everything is still original wiring. Both of the manuals I have for the dime don't seem to show anything. The wire colors and best location to connect them would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!
  6. I don't know about the 521's but I know when I asked for the adapter for the 510 the only thing checker (now O'Reilly's) had listed is only for an auto...not a manual. so some info or part numbers for any of the cars would be cool. free bump...lol!
  7. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see the final outcome of this one!!!!

    Exhaust Thread

I have a 69 510 with the stock L16...completely stock. I talked to my exhaust guy that I have known for 20 years here and with the future plans of dropping a V6 into it, he recommended 2 1/4 from the downpipe back. It is a straight pipe, no resonator, and using the stainless steel Magnaflow muffler in the back in the stock location. we had talked about 2 1/2 as well, just kinda threw it out there to see what he said for the V6 and he said "yeah...a bit big for the stock motor..but perfect for the V6." He is a cool guy and knowing that the exhaust will be changed at some point, He made the exhaust from the crossmember back at 2 1/2, and so is the muffler, and then out the tail so only the easy mostly straight stuff in the front will be replaced but I won't have to replace the muffler. I do know this...it's a hell of a lot better then the original, what is it, 1" to 1 1/4 pipe that was on there?!?! noticeable gain, but I wouldn't say it was drastic by any means. Verdict? It's perfect! :D It's quiet while cruising, but when you get on it, you know it's there. It's got a ballsy sound to it but it's not annoying like most honduhs are. ;) (most..not all...lol!?) I will try to get some video up of it so maybe you can get an idea...
  9. Congrats!!!! I too recently bought a 2002 frontier crew cab, as my daily driver was becoming more of a couple days a week driver....just didn't trust it anymore.. I just got back from Vegas and it did great the whole way there and back. No problems on the hills or anything!!! Hope you enjoy!
  10. Years ago when I was putting a chevy 350 into a 77 chevette for fun, we had to move the firewall back so the dash was removed and taken inside into an air conditioned room. It was in perfect condition. I decided to make sure that it stayed nice during the engine swap and used armor all to keep it nice and shiny while it was out of the car. it wasn't 2 weeks later that 4 cracks appeared and continued to get worse as time went by. As everyone else has said...avoid it like the plague!!! I have used Mothers for years and have never had a problem with it. not oily feeling at all and doesn't attract dirt like some others.
  11. THANKS! it's gettin there...still need to finish molding the guage pods in, smooth it out some more and then decide if I am going to cover it or paint it....I will post pics when I get that done as well.. Again...THANKS!
  12. ahh someone beat me to it. guess that's what happens when you are trying to post between customers at work..lol! Good luck!
  13. a lot of gas stations will pre-authorize a charge for the amount of 50.00, 75.00 or even 100.00 for gas, then charge you the correct amount, then remove the pre authorization usually that day or the next. They will usually do a pre authorization if you are getting gas at a station that is near a freeway and will usually be the higher amount as well. If that charge does not come off within a day or two, definitely dispute it with your card company. A lot of companies are starting to not charge the pre authorizations tho as it causes a lot of trouble when you are traveling cross country and getting gas constantly as you can use up your balance and also, multiple gas station charges in one day usually triggers fraud alerts on accounts.
  14. what I have seen seem to be more common in 15" 17" 18" and 20" and those also seem to have the widest range of tires avail for them as well....
