  1. Hey Mike, where would you recommend to get the cable with a seal? I called around and nobody can verify if their cable comes with it
  2. I finally got the cable and seals. Bad news is the cable does not come with the "top hat" oil seal. Ordered it through Autozone and its a Pioneer direct fit replacement. Anyone recomend another place to get the speedo cable with a seal included?
  3. Good to know. I went ahead and ordered a cable and seals to cover everything while im under there. Ive never replaced the gear oil since i bought it last year but it checked out at the purchase inspection. Never a puddle under the truck or anything. Should be able to pressure wash after work tomorrow and get a better look. Thank you for the help!
  4. Thank you for the info. I'll check the vent tomorrow. I figure i should change the all the seals and the cable since the oil is not just coming through the line but also out of the sleeve as well, at the back end of the transfer case. Still cant seem to find a clear answer as to what the seal is officially called. There are various pinion seals and all parts suppliers just list them as seals. Nothing specific to the speedometer pinion. I called a local autozone and they were unable to find the part. I dont think they had a clue as to what i was talking about but im sure someone else local has it. A Nissan dealer should be able to at least give me a part number tomorrow
  5. So it looks like there are 2 different seals. The "top hat" seal on the speedo cable wich i cant find seperately, i would have to buy a speedo cable assembly, and the oring on the speedometer pinion gear. Im asuming i would need both as i have oil all over the transfer case and the oil in the cab. Autozone has a cable which should have the "top hat" seal, but im not sure if it comes with it. Rock auto has the oring. But again, im not sure its the right one as it doesnt list it specificly for the speedometer pinion. Is there another name these go by? Anyone have part numbers?
  6. Awesome. Thank you! What is the name of that seal? Is it one the transfer case or the cable itself?
  7. Hi everyone- The truck has been doing great and hasnt really given me much trouble. A few things have me scratching my head though. I recently started noticing oil on the floor of the drivers side, just near the transmission tunnel and pedals. Initially thought it was something from the tranny or engine coming through the sheet metal somehwere. Then after finally getting it in the garage i traced it to the speedo cable where it connects to the cluster. Its not a constant flow but looks to be a consistant weeping. What could be causing this? Is there supposed to be oil in the cable for lubrication? Ive never seen anything like this. Maybe a seal on the transfer case end? After looking at the case where the other end of the cable connects there is an obvious leak which needs to be adress but why the oil in the line all the way to the cab? Does this call for a new speedo cable? Anyone else ever experience this?
  8. What a way to end the year. Took the 720 to go cut down a tree only to find out it had 4x4 trails!!! Added bonus to an already fun event in the truck. On my way to work the week before Christmas I was cut off by a new mercedes. I locked up the truck, getting sideways and veering towards the shoulder of a VERY HIGH overpass, almost going over. I could see the asphalt passing by extremely close as i corrected to the left, putting the truck on 2 wheels. Luckily I have folks looking out for me from above and I gained traction and planted it hard back down on all four. Didnt know until the following week that the impact from slamming back down had broken my radiator free from its mounts. The Day before Chirstmas as I was scrambling to finish shopping no less....it was leaning back far enough for the fan to take a few nips out of the upper area of the radiator. Nothing major but it was leaking pretty steadily. Had a local shop here in town repair it and got it back together with no fuss. Also went to Sacramento and found some replacement parts...a hood, fenders, 10/10 4x4 grill and a gauge cluster. Thinking of getting a dash cap but I need to verify the color of blue. Rockauto says there are two versions. A light and dark blue. And just for kicks....since i had my toolbox and the camper off i made sure to equip my truck with the anti theft device. Love her lots. She takes care of me n truck.
  9. Love these trucks gentlemen. I bought mine earlier this year and feel the same way. Fitted it with 31x10.5's and like it, but i think i want to go back to slightly larger than factory and stock wheels.
  10. Took the truck on a shakedown trip this past weekend. It did really well and got much better mileage than i anticipated. Needs new door seals, sound deadening and drivers side window hardware. Love this truck.
  11. Out with the old, in with the less old.... Picked up a set of really nice seats to replace the old, worn, broken ones. Completely changed the interior. They match really well too. Got the passenger installed today. Driver tomorrow.
  12. PROBLEM SOLVED..... The prolonged rich condition of the carb ( high idle ) caused the catalytic converter to burn out and clog. I mean this thing was TOAST....never seen one that bad. Fixed the cat and shes good. When i removed it and held it upright the innards literally poured out of it in chunks and streams of dust. My jaw hit the driveway... Purrrrrs now. And a boat load more power. The carb, despite rebuilding, has seen better days. I think its time to go with a webber.....
  13. Thanks Poorman & Mike. I'll give it the starter fluid/brake booster check test tomorrow. As for the vacuum lines/ports-I figured they were important but then again, the truck ran OK when i bought it and drove it 2.5 hours back home. The symptoms occurred pretty suddenly. Went to work one day, started to drive home from work that same day and it lost power. I'll look for the carb specific vacuum routing. Do they look familiar? Any idea of what they need to connect to? Let me be more specific. The truck now idles ( rough idle) much lower but hesitates upon acceleration and only revs to 2k or so when it seems to hit a wall. Exhaust smells rich, is slightly smokey and dark in color. No water in the oil. Fuel pump kicks on with the key and seems to run continuously. I became aware of the throttle plate interference during the rebuild. I spent some time getting them just right. There should be no incorrect contact with the barrels.
  14. Checked and set valves to .012 and rechecked timing. Have to dig up the compression tester and fitting. This thing starts up and runs great cold.
  15. Got the carb installed. Result=failure Truck started up first try and purrrrred....then it got warm and repeated the previous symptoms. Well at least I know that the carb is good.....
