  1. i am looking for a rebuilt 1600 engine for a '69 510 wagon. i am also looking for someone to do an engine swap with the old. anyone out there willing to help me out? i just don't have the means to do it myself right now...
  2. i'm hoping that i'm not going to sound too green here but i need a new engine for my 510. the engine failed and i've decided to swap it out instead of doing a rebuild. (i don't have the mechanical abilities or access to the proper tools/space for such work. i've decided to do an engine swap in order to keep the cost with the mechanic to a minimum. the easier the job is the better). that being said, replacing my current engine with an L16 seems like the best bet, however an L20 would provide more power. from what i understand, the L20's are larger and won't fit under the hood without some work. is this the only hurdle i would potentially face with upgrading from an L16 to an L20 (or even an L18)? engines aren't cheap (especially the remanufactured ones) and i don't want to dive into this and drop a bunch of money if i'm not properly informed. thanks in advance for any helpful feedback.
  3. I can't seem to find one and am beginning to doubt if they are even available. But... if they aren't any made to fit a 510 wagon, is there another cover with the right dimensions for another model/make of car that I could substitute? Thanks in advance for any information.
  4. hello. i have a '69 510 wagon with an L16 engine. about how many miles to the gallon would you say i'm getting? city and otherwise? thanks!
  5. i recovered red late last night. thanks so much for all the concern! my friend made a wrong (right?) turn and happened upon it. wasn't even looking for it at the time. battery was stolen along with some other property. kind of relieved i hadn't yet bothered to put a radio in it as that would likely be gone too. i still can't believe it was stolen in the first place. was parked in front of my home briefly in the middle of the day. one time i didn't lock it... it's good to be reminded how opportunistic thieves can be i guess. situation might not be so forgiving if it were to happen again. rather ballsy to steal a car like this in broad daylight... so so glad to have red safe and sound with me again... thanks again for all the help in getting the word out and keeping your eyes peeled!!!
  6. my cherry red 1969 datsun 510 wagon was stolen yesterday. the theft happened between noon and 2p yesterday afternoon from se 14th and taylor in portland, or. exterior is pretty clean but has a noticeable dent in rear fender and cargo door. interior has original seats with torn seams on front passenger seat. is missing carpet on main interior but has newer black carpet in cargo area. the engine and transmission was completely rebuilt a couple years ago. has a nissan chrome locking fuel cap. i found these photos of my wagon posted on a blog at the link below. http://www.oldparkedcars.com/2010/08/1972-datsun-510-wagon.html thanks so much for reading my post. hopefully red will be recovered soon...
  7. very helpful. that answers a lot of my questions about whether the radios i'm finding would fit or not. it allows me a lot more freedom to decide based on appearance and function instead of trying to find a true match to my year/model. i found a nos model. i think this will be the one i end up going with.
  8. thanks for the reply. i'm feeling like finding the original radio will be difficult. at least they don't offer much to be desired anyways. im a little bit of a purist i guess and want to see the dash in close to original condition. the link was definitely helpful. it was the first resource with images i'd seen on stock radios.
  9. hello - i'm new to this forum and a relatively new proud datsun owner. i had a question about radios... i have a 1969 510 wagon w/o one. i found two w/no faceplates or knobs and one with. my question is whether these models would fit my model. w/o faceplates: 99993-00132 hitachi am/fm radio model a-1681, nissan oem 99993-00119 hitachi am/fm radio model a-1581, nissan oem w/faceplate: 210, b310 b7910-h8501 am radio if it turns out that the only ones that are adaptable are the ones w/o faceplates, does anyone know where i can find them? thanks
