  1. I guess I'll have to get my act together and post more pictures of my 'farm truck' 620. If you take a look at 'Digger's 620 on page 39 of 'Pic of Your Truck', you'll see a REALLY pristine Aussie 620 with 1/4 vents and Queensland State number plates. Quite a miracle for it not to be rusty, being in sub-tropical Townsville though.
  2. A case of the grass being greener? I get it. I wish my truck was (at least) L20, ball joints and discs, not to mention 1-piece door glass instead of 60's 1/4 vents, and column gearshift.... But it does have its own retro charm. Maybe if you could catch up with some of the guys who import Datsun 1600 (510?) stuff from Japan you might score a cab and dash? I just can't think of anybody actually exporting older Japanese cars FROM Australia.
  3. I had a look at my 620 an my trusty manual: it shows an external voltage regulator is mounted remote of the alternator, so it would seem likely that this, along with other components, is fried. It should be a black box bolted on the inner guard next to the battery. Also check all of the fuses and fusible links, as an incorrectly jumped battery is the fastest way to blow every major fuse on the truck. Be thankful that it actually runs, too! ;)
  4. That's one sweet looking truck that shouldn't need a lot of work. Already looks damn cool as it is.
  5. Hmmm...I don't quite get the attraction. There are a number of things going AGAINST RHD 620s. (At least in Australia). Theý're not all that common any more. They were sold here with king-pin front ends, 4-wheel drum brakes and J15 engines. I know because I've got one and I'm finding sourcing parts...challenging. Have you checked out the Japanese scene? If you google datsun 620 images, you'll probably find a jaw-dropping black one. In Asian countries they're still popular, with a lot of (suspect) repro parts available. But suspect is better than NONE. Whats so special about a right hand drive?
  6. Just import one from Australia, Japan, or even South Africa. They're all RHD here, man.
  7. Not 100% sure, but I looked up a schematic in my "Autobooks" workshop manual and its identified as a 'secondary slow jet'. It looks like its passage goes into the bottom of the 'secondary emulsion tube' cavity. What it does exactly I'm not sure. I understand EFI better than carburettors these days! :)
  8. Whipped off the front wheels for new tyres, inspected the front end - looks like I need an idler arm and some brake hoses - amongst many other things!
  9. I've heard of guys plugging air injection holes cylinder heads with old spark plugs of the right size and thread. You could make a flat plate with the right sized holes to blank off the EGR, or braze/seal up the pipes and leave the pipe fittings in place. (same for the air injection, unless its really in the way). sounds like a headaache altogether, though - especially when you're rushed. Hang in there, man. ;)
  10. Sounds like a short in the starter circuit to me. If it starts, then runs with the fuse blown, then won't restart, then it's likely to be the circuit that powers the starter solenoid - and the same fusible link may connect the alternator to the battery to charge. Did you mean that it won't crank, or that the engine won't actually start? Possibly a wire shorted to the chassis or block, that makes contact once the engine's rocking?
  11. Did you do the compression test with the engine at operating temperature? It won't be accurate when cold. If you've got wet spark plugs, chances are its ignition related. The fact that it starts fine hot but not cold also hints at this. Check for spark using a High-Energy Ignition tester (looks like a spark plug with a massive air gap) for checking Electronic Ignition outputs, you should be able to get one inexpensively from an Auto parts shop. With your slightly mis-matched ignition systems, its a possibility. Oh and Merry Christmas. (Don't work on the little devil over the holidays, mate!)

What's all that white stuff? We're expecting 40 degrees Celcius tomorrow (I think thats over 100F).
  13. Looks like its going to be able to go plenty low, with that chassis C-notch. Should look 'scrapin' when complete....and that's always a good look. Oh, and Australian's don't have an accent, Americans do. Although the English are closer to not having an accent than the Canadians. And don't get me started on the New Zealanders! Have I re-started enough international rivalry? But I DO LOVE the way California girls talk.
  14. Yeah, the chicks are so hot I have to submit to sexual harassment. Submit, I say. Blonde. Brunette. Redhead. They're all the same. I feel like such an object all the time. The only way I can get some peace is to impersonate an American accent
  15. From what I've seen on the net of 'reverse link' suspension set ups, there's no way you'd pass roadworthy in Australia. Even the boys who go to the considerable trouble of full 4 link airbag suspension don't get approval without an engineer's certificate. But if its legal, and safe to drive, where you are.....
