  1. No the one on the fender wall with the overflow, in/return fuel lines. I've got a diesel.
  2. Anybody got some tips on how to remove the secondary fuel filter (the big one)? Everywhere I've read is should to unscrew relatively easily but mine seems to be fused. I've tried using a oil filter wrench but that that bent the outer metal cover. I removed the banjo bolts and fuel lines from it completely and tried to to put in vice and wrench it free but that outer metal cover is so flimsy its just keeps bending. I guess I can cut the cover off I've seen plenty of people with their filters exposed. Will this be a problem? Also does anybody know the part number for the top part that the filter screws into and where the banjo bolts go? I'm thinking at this point it might be better to just order a new one.
  3. Here is a link to the thread on my cold start issue. Maybe it will help. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/58872-frozen-fuel/?p=1017529
  4. I had some trouble with my truck last winter. Is it possible that the lines aren't primed or there's air in the lines? Thats what happened with mine when it got super cold and the fuel gelled. I had to open up each fuel line individually while someone turned over the truck until fuel came out and then I sealed them back up to get all the air out. All the while using the manual pump to prime the fuel. I got started and haven't had any troubles since (especially since I made sure to stick to B50 or B20 when it starts getting cold). I also got heater but I was lazy and just got the external magnetic one so I don't think it did much good.

    Frozen Fuel

So the temperature dropped well below freezing the past couple of days here in PDX. Unfortunately I hadn't switched over to winter diesel yet so there was still half a tank of B99 in the truck. I started it up fine but then it died as I left the driveway. Opened the hood and the fuel filter was half frozen. This was two days ago. I bought an engine block heater, put about 4 gallons of B5 diesel in it, and tried warming up the fuel filter and lines with a heater. It still wouldn't start back up or if it did I just couldn't give it gas so it died. Now I'm afraid I might of air locked it. I don't have a garage and its stuck parked on the street because my driveway is sloped. Are there solutions to this other than waiting until the weather turns? I know warmth will fix the fuel problem but how do I fix the air locking issue?
  6. Yeah I only notice that it wants to take me to the right when I hit bumps or when the road curves down the freeway.
  7. Took the truck to get the front end aligned but they didn't end up doing it. They instead told me I need $2000 in front end work. Front suspension & steering worn, ball joints with excessive play, outer tie rod excessive play, worn shocks (which is weird because when I checked them they weren't bouncy at all). I understand that a 720 is going to get a lot of wear and tear over 30 years but are these guys crazy? Luckily I don't mind getting dirty to fix the truck's problems. Just curious anybody else experience this kind of wear or mechanics just not familiar enough with it?
  8. Got some nice used 27x8.5 for the front today.
  9. Changed the oil today and boy did it need it! Who knows how long the PO let this slide? The truck is sounding a lot better now. I also got the left rear turn signal working but now the license plate lights blink on both sides. Tomorrow=new front tires and greasing the ball joints.

  11. Just picked up a 1982 diesel with a little over 200K. Everything seems pretty mechanically sound. Going to change the oil and check the tranny fluid Saturday as long it doesn't rain. The biggest thing this truck needs is some tires. The front wheel are balled as hell (The back two are nice though). Any tire suggestions from anybody? All the places I've been calling are give me a quote for $400 to replace these tires with standard all terrain ones. This is my first truck is that a good price? If I'm going to shell out that much are there some better tires to buy? Thanks.
