  6. hey brett, yeah the orange one is still alive and well. the motors sitting between the rails, had to hold off for a while till i had the money to finish things off but over the next couple weeks she should be running and drivable. but will keep you posted with regards to the progress. cheers
  7. hi guys for those of you who dont remember most last posts i own a 78 datto ute. this little ute was originally bought for a work ute until i fell in love with its beautiful body shape. it was about then that i decided that i would restore this thing and turn it into a little hot rod. that along with the fact the original j15 was knackered. so the first motor to go into this ute was a mild l18 with a nice little down draught webber connected to a four speed box, ran quite nice till it started cutting out on me and spluttering and basicley giving me the shits. i had spent way to much money paying a mechanic to put this motor in and it was not running properly. so i was talking to a mate from another forum and he mentioned he had a l20 stroker he was selling ( not that he wanted to) by the way, i mean i dont think many would willingly pass this thing up. ha ha. so i managed to pick up the l20b stroker which had forged flat top pistons in it. ka24 crank, biggest cam that would fit , new valves and spings, plus more making compression of 11-1. with a pair of twin 45 side draught webbers. connected to a 5speed box. so now i have this little weapon sittng in the car. we did things alittle different this time. my mate and i put this one in, in one weekend we managed to do what took the mechanic like a month!!!. forgot to mention there was plenty of beers and cursing invloved including calling off the nights work because we where far too pissed and it was becoming dangerous working with the engine crane and motor. so i had been reading the local trading paper over here and noticed someone was selling a datto 620. so imediattley i called. and to my delight it had a style side tray. so i drove down my bomb car towing a trailer with indicators that didnt work and up hills where it struggled and i thought i could have walked quicker. but i eventually got there and made a deal with the seller( who was a total yolkal by the way) so to my amazment he tries to get me to pay him with a trade for unlicenced firearms.omg what a crim right!!lol . so anyway i mangeged to get it for 3hundred bucks .wow a bargin!. so now im about to send this little baby to the mechanic( not the previous one) ha ha. to have her all finished. pray with me im statified with her. or its out with the motor and in with a sr20. for all you guys out there who love your pics here you go. tell me what you think ps; do tell me if these pics dont work as im new to using photobucket http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=P1010073.jpg http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=DSC00094.jpg http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=DSC00093.jpg http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=P1010077.jpg http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=001.jpg http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=P1010070.jpg http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh31/blackoutNT/?action=view&current=P1010071.jpg
  8. Hey mate congrats on your efforts. i recently did a mtor swap with a mate to drop my l20 stroker into my truck. its a interesting process.lol we had heaps of trouble with sump pans not fitting. mounting the gear box, and the enging mounts were a nightmare. but last motor it had was put in by the mechanics and cost my three grand. what took them three weeks we did in a weekend. also regarding your wiring, we got tape and stuck it to each wire and wrote what it was and where it went prior to removal. so it made things so much easier. gotta get rid of that air cleaner. do the motor no justice. pretty harsh on the eyes
