  1. That was indeed the issue. Replaced the dizzy with a spare I had lying around and the timing went spot on :D She passed smog with flying colors the next day...yay I have permission from the Peoples' Republik of CA to drive my car another two years! Thanks a million again!!
  2. Lol...um...not exactly the answer I was looking for or even a viable option at this point in time... Besides my 521 is Datsun enough for me at the moment  This is my semi-daily driver (I have 94 Legend right now that's doing the major commuting)... This 87 has been in my family since '92, I've had it since 03, and I've put a lot of sweat into her. Cliff not an option haha...
  3. On my Acura I have a vacuum advance distributor which allows for timing adjustment at the distributor (the Legend only allowed for this for two years then it all became computer controlled). Stock my car is supposed to be at 23*BTDC +/- 2*... I found out after a CA smog check that it was way retarded at 12*...this caused an automatic fail. Dammit. So I went to advance it and found that even with the dizzy all the way advanced, I can only get to 15* BTDC. Double dammit. The timing belt is spot on and has been on the car for about 90,000 miles anyhow...I have passed other smog checks in the past so I know it was good before... So any ideas here? Think my distributor itself is bad? It's a $200 part even for an aftermarket rebuilt... The car runs excellent and so I wouldn't say that the timing belt was installed incorrectly or jumped a tooth (a BIG no no on Honda engines anyways).... Sorry if these are noob questions or there is a simple answer...I'm kinda light in the ignition knowledge department...thanks though!
  4. I've got a 620 console in my 521...I think it works out okay. I was even able to install a headunit in it...I'll have to see if I can find any pictures...
  5. That's actually a great, practical plan! I may just try that when I gut my interior....I would imagine that headliner spray adhesive would be the way to go in adhering the new vinyl...
  6. This is incorrect. In the United States when one is charged with a crime (even a traffic violation), the accused is entitled to due process. Our traffic courts are setup differently than criminal court yes, but the basic backbone of our court system is still in place. That is to say that the burden of proof is on the state and guilt must be found beyond a reasonable doubt. This is why when you go to traffic court and the officer doesn't show up your case is often dismissed...because without the officer's testimony the court cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty of the violation for which you are being charged. Of course there are places where it's like the Good 'Ol Boys' club, and the judge can side with an officer 99.9% of the time. But if there is a transcript with an officer saying something to the effect of, "he may have 'missed' your turn signal because of your brake light," that shows that the officer is not 100% sure that you DIDN'T have your turn signal on. It has to be 100%. The judge has to be 100% convinced that a violation occurred. It can't be "you might not have signaled" it HAS to be "you DID NOT signal." If it's "you might have not signaled...but then again you might have..." that's reasonable doubt. Especially if that can be inferred from the officer's earlier testimony as is evidenced by the magistrate's comment. Which is why a transcript is important.:( I would think that even an informal hearing should have something on the record. With 2 License points at stake...I would imagine you have nothing to lose by going to court...just polish up on speaking. Remember you don't have to sound like a lawyer. Just know what its is you are trying to prove and it will be like debating with someone that 1+1 does in fact equal 2. You just have to KNOW that you are right.
  7. Remember that the court must find you "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt". That is key. Can the officer PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that you did NOT use your signal? If there was a transcript from the hearing you already went to, it will be on the record that the officer said (according to your post) something to the effect of, "he didn't see the signal from over a block away. He also said that the brake light could have made it so he didn't see it." It should also be transcribed that the magistrate said that "it is possible that your signal was on but the officer did not see it." How do you prove that? You should be given time to ask the officer questions. He is under oath so all you have to get him to admit is the possibility that you may have signaled and he might not have seen it...per his own statement at the previous hearing! It's a long shot, but its one of the few you have...
  8. Had rain the last two weekends so no progress...any further ideas?
  9. So I've got most of the hardware I need for my 521's conversion: ~Front and rear brackets ~Hardbody calipers ~Isuzu rear stuff ~'81 ZX Master Cylinder I'm also going to be using a 620 brake booster. I will also be bending and running all new hard brake line from the master cylinder... I ran a search but was unsuccessful in finding these last few things I want to confirm: What size brake line will I need? Size and thread pitch at the master cylinder connections Any other things I should look at getting or road blocks I may hit? Thanks...
  10. Not sure of the exact name...but I'm looking for the mount/pipe that sits between the brake booster and the firewall on 620s. I will be using this to add a booster to a 521 if that makes any difference... Let me know what you want for it + shipping to 93030 and I'll pay via Paypal... 620s at my local yard are few and far between...so thanks for your help!
  11. Very nice find man!! I agree...dont go cutting up such a great example just yet...do some simple lowering and see how she grows on you :D
  12. Its definitely possible...when I was in high school, the auto shop teach had an old Honda Accord out back and he let me scavenge the 3-point belts from the front seats for free.... I had them in my 521 the following weekend...
  13. WOW looks great!! Any chance of getting a YouTube video? :D
