  1. So I was thinking of just buying a new distributor. I see that they sell them on Ebay. Is 5his a good idea and if so is there a good place to get one.
  2. I will give that a try this may be the issue..hopefully
  3. OK that being said...what the heck do I do if I can't get the magnet onto the distributor? And I am running a L18 it is not the stock engine
  4. So I was thinking about the issue I'm having with getting my truck started with the pertronix. And I decided that I was going to put the original distributor back in. Since I had swapped it out with a distributor that had the pertronics already in it from another truck. So I pulled out the distributor that was in the truck right now. And then I realized that the two Distributors are different. So I pulled the pertronics off of the one went to put it on the original distributor out of the truck. And I realized it would not fit onto the distributor. The part that the rotor goes on to is too big for the magnetic part of the pertronics to fit over. So I added some pictures the blue distributor is the original distributor that had the points that I've had on that truck for over 20 years. And of course the silver one is the one that came off the old engine off another truck and I just put it into my current 620 that we're having problems starting. So now I'm at a loss again.
  5. It may seem simple for you all but I am not a mechanic. I have explained this to Steve.and Hainz. I don't have a timing light I am struggling to statuc time it. As steve has shown me...I enjoy the custom aspect and the style of the 620s. But unfortunately I really have nit learned to work on them. I have had friends and shops do the work over the years. So if I can't get this figured out. More than likely it will need to go to a shop. You all are mechanics and the 5he how toos and enjoy it...I do not That being said,, the coil had no ballist resistor .. if I need to put one on how is that done. And I don't know how to adjust the pertronix distributor plate
  6. Well the picture is the coil set up I have, it is a stock 77 620. With factory tach. No ballist resistor...does that mean so what
  7. He is a good guy. He has always helped me out. Just feel I drive him crazy at times...I am not much of a mechanic..but I am learning.
  8. I knew I could count on you Datzenmike...lol. I would give this a try. Been driving Redeye crazy with all my questions
  9. So I have had some issues with getting my truck running after swapping points for a pertronix. It came off another truck and was fine.. I have static timed it..many times.still won't run. So thinking it may be pertronix. Any help on how to test would be helpful. Thanks
  10. So I feel I fried my Pertronix ignition. Not sure how it happened. So I have decided to get a new Ignition and Pertronix coil. So I can by pass the ballist resistor. Can anyone tell me what coil I should get to run with Pertronix 1741.. And how to wire it up correct. I added a picture to show how it is hooked up now. This set up was working before I swapped out engines just recently. I had the truck running then it just shut off. Now no spark. Need help. Thanks
  11. I will try that. Not sure how I did it but I did. Was driving home one day from work a d the Good Old L18 just went boom. Was 15 years old...lol
  12. So here I am again. I once had a good running 620 with an L18 Petronix ignion. The L18 blew up. So I had a rebuilt L20B installed. I got it running was running a little rough but running and idling. Then as if someone flip off a switch it just stopped running. Coil seems fine ignition seems fine. Only thing I can think of is I tried my 6month old Petronix. Which was fine before I swapped engines. I am not a electrical guy or an overall great mechanic. Any ideas I included pics of the wiring for the Petronix.
  13. Ok so got a new rebuilt engine Inn the truck and running. What is the break in procedure? Know go mellow for 500 miles change the oil. I was told to put a zinc additive in the oil while breaking in it... Does this sound good? It is an L20B if that matters.

    Oil on floor board?

So I have a new one for you all. I have been having small pools of oil on my driver side floor board off and on for about 2 months now. Any idea of what or where it is coming from. It also seems to be oily on the steering column dash frame right behind the instrument cluster.
