  1. Well as it turns out all 6 injectors are FUBAR  They all ohm out good and other than a bit of corrosion on the terminals seem fine but wont fire with you put voltage to them. I'm thinking they are all gummed up inside with varnish after 23 years of sitting with fuel in them. New injectors for the Golden Turd then.... On a side note, I got the black XZ running last week. Had to hot-wire the fuel pump as it only comes on after every four or five turns of the key and has a habit of just turning off randomly while the car is running once it does actually get going. It runs pretty good when warmed up, but it too needs fuel injector hoses as it spews a nice stream of gas out of #1 injector towards the hood! Also stripped the interior down to the dash and console, MUCH BETTER in there now without the mold factory that was all the interior bits. Soooo i'm at a crossroads, I can pull the parts off the XZ and put them on the 77' to get it running or I can tinker with the ZX and drive it for a while. Other than a shot / stripped interior and the need for fuel hoses and a clutch master cylinder I'm betting its a driver. Allbeit with a gutted interior and rusty windshield area. Hmmmmm Decisions, decisions, decisions..... LOL
  2. Did some work on the "Golden Turd" yesterday to try and get it running. The gas tank was all rusty and gunked up from sitting for 20+ years so I replaced it with a very clean replacement off CL. While I was at it, I cleaned out all the fuel lines from the tank to the engine and replaced the feed and return lines under the hood. Put in a fresh fuel filter as well. Unfortunately she still wont fire off. Got good spark and the injectors are getting signals from the ECU, just no fuel flow through them I suspect. Since the fuel rail rubber hoses need replacement anyway Im going to pull the whole assembly and clean it out as well. I found that the cold start injector was compeltly clogges in the fuel line side so Im betting the main injectors have suffered the same fate. Stay tuned, I just may get this beast running yet!
  3. It's pretty much all stock and original except for the 90's goodness 2 knob radio, speakers and those god awful plastic hubcaps. As ya'll see from the pics my son posted, those were the first to go! Oh and the gross sheepskin seat covers that looked like some horrible disease had befell the fake sheep that gave up their synthetic wool to make them. Managed to get the motor freed up, and wanted to see if it would run. A fresh battery and some gas in the tank led to nothing but cranking. No fuel pump but good ignition. After a couple days of troubleshooting and circuit testing I realized this. Something wasn't right about those battery cables. Then I remembered that the 280Z has a ground wire connected to the negative cable for the ECU! As it turns out the P.O. had it wired to the positive cable! No wonder why it wouldn't run..... Cut the black wire off the positive and ran it to the negative and BOOM! Fule pump and ECU power. Imagine that ;-) Still isn't running as I need to replace the fuel lines and the tank. Got a good replacement off CL the other day so that will resolve the nasty rusty original one.
  4. Guess i should post some updates one the "Golden Turd" as Joe calls it... LOL Here is a couple pics from when we picked her up from the tow yard. Couldn't pass up the deal, although it's a shame she sat out int eh sun for 23 years with no care or cover. The elements took a pretty bad toll on everything.
  5. Almost done! Well at least almost on the road, they are never really done are they ;-) It's been a lot of work for Joe and I to get his car from this: To this: Hopefully we get it on the road for the next Sac Datsun Club meeting on Friday!
  6. I got these from Amazon, worked great for my boy's 510 and my 240Z! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BITHDF2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
  7. That's what roadside assist is for on your insurance B)
