    Maxima VG30??

Thanks for the reply, Yea I got in touch with David Carroll from Experimental Engineering and he set me straight on the compatiblity of the fwd to rwd components. I gotta mention that he was very helpful and quick on his responses. He said for the most part everything will bolt up. He did mention the flywheel is too large so I'll have to swap it out. Also the crank snout might be an issue as well with the accesories. If there are any other experiences people have had with a vg swap please do share. Thanks!!

    Maxima VG30??

I have an opportunity to pick up a late 90s Maxima VG30 at a good price. No tranny, ecu, harness, etc. Just the engine. I'm worried that the mounts on the block might not be the same or usable period. I was hoping that it's the same mounting at like a 300zx or 200sx. That way I can pick up a 300zx trans and 200sx intake. Has anyone ever went this route. Thanks for your time!
  3. Thanks everyone for you input, bummer that it sounds like a bad bearing. Yea there isn't any loud noise on the other gears, just fifth.
  4. Had this problem ever since I bought my 510 so I don't know what might have caused this issue originally. I thought maybe it was just low on gear oil so I drained and filled the tranny. It runs fine in all the other gears but it gets really loud when I shift to 5th gear. I can run her in 5th gear and there isn't any other signs of mechanical issues. The tranny just sounds really eff'n loud so it's concerning. Has anyone else had this issue?
  5. I got your 50bucks and I'm from Sac so I can swing on down there this Sat if you can wait till then.
  6. I'd be interested in the driver front fender, hood and front windsheild. I'm in Sac so a drive to Antioch wouldn't be a problem. What would you want for each of em? Thanks!
  7. tdaaj, I'm interested in the 620 driver fender and hood. What would it take to get shipped to 95628? Thanks!!
  8. Yea right away I knew this place was great. Thanks again for all your input guys! BBQs are my favorite passtime.
  9. Well I feel like an ass. I found the vacuum leak which was a lead into the intake manifold under the carb. I believe that was used for smog which was plugged before. This whole time I was looking all around and in the carb that I didn't bother with the intake. Anyways I plugged it up and she running like a dream again. Timed and adjusted the mixture so now onto taking out the points.
  10. Thanks guys for your quick responses. I was talking today with my co worker and he was also thinking that it could be a vacuum leak(s). Could've happened when she backfired. If that's the solution I should then be able to time it. I do plan on getting a pertronix ignitor kit here real soon. BTW A while back ago I ran across this pic and had to use it for my avatar. I certainly don't look like him :D Thanks again!
  11. As stated in my previous post I recently purchased my first dime. She's a '71 510 with an L18, weber 32/36. When I picked her up for the first week she ran strong w/o any hesitation. This performace deteorated shortly after that. She would start to hesitate and backfire through the carb. The issues would be intermit. and would mostly occur while she was cold. Since then I replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs and condenser. After replacements she ran great again, so I warm her up in the driveway and go for a ride. Right through the 1st intersection she starts hesitating again and backfires through the tailpipe and wants to die. I feather the gas to get to a parking lot and she dies. From here she will not hold an idle with the choke open. But with the choke closed she idles at a really high rpm, (maybe 4500-5000rpm). While running at this high speed, there isn't any uneven idling, backfiring or knocking. I checked my point gap when I got home with it being fine. She still remains in the same condition, will not hold an idle unless choke is closed and she idles at high rpms. I tried to adjust the mixture with no change in idle. I'm not well versed in carbs, I understand mixture adjustments but nothing more. I looked into the carb and the accl pump works squirting an even amount. The choke and throttle linkages are complete and operate fine. I am at a loss and would greatly appreciate any guidance.
  12. Hello all, new proud owner of a 71 510 4dr. Purchase was a great deal for this great car. The only issue that is beyond me is the tranny. The engine's strong, clutch engages great and the tranny shifts without any issues. As I'm going through the gears shifting fine I go into third and it's a bit louder. The increased sound doesn't sound like grinding or knocking. The sound goes back to what I would think is a normal operating volume when thrown in fourth. Then shifting to fifth gear is sounds even louder than third. Again it doesn't sound like grinding or knocking, just loud like a big work truck. Any ideas or anyone else that experiences these sounds? Thanks in advance for any help or tips!! Richard
