  1. Ok, i got this one. I pushed the top shift fork forward. This aligns the fork pockets. Which is neutral. Place strike rod in the slot.. LOl answered my own question.
  2. All, I have taken the rear extension housing off my tranny to replace leaking paper gasket. When I took the housing off I did not see where the strike rod was in the shift fingers. I dont want to guess its position and button the trans up. I was pretty sure I had it in 1st gear when I took the housing off. Thanks in advance for your help.
  3. Very interesting guys. Thanks for all your input. Note: I only welded on the top & sides of the tubes not the bottom. Just trying to make it look finished. leaving the bottom of each tube should leave room for expansion. I hope! If it does crack I will just re-weld or try to find a stock manifold.
  4. Yep, After I finished welding the outside of the tubes. It does not come welded on the outside. I took it into our machine shop & faced the flange surface just to make perfectly flat. Thanks for your advice.
  5. Ratsun gods, Please help me out with this one. I'm ready to install my new Top End Perf. header. Should I use the green gasket they send? Or should I use the really nice Fel-pro gasket that came with my engine rebuild kit? The Fel-pro has the nice metal rings around the ports. The fel-pro does not have the two inside exhaust pipes split but the green gasket has. Thanks for all your help in advance, Troy
  6. I want to thank everyone on here for their input. Sounds like I might just leave my stock cam alone and just replace the valve seals as they are leaking. I just thought i might upgrade the cam while i had it out. Dosent sound like i will gain anything with a L20 cam or Hi performance cam like Isky. Im kind of bummed now.
  7. Are there any specific years for that cam i should look for? Im pretty sure i can get one through Rock Auto. Will I be able to use my stock lash pads? thanks again.
  8. Yes, very true. I always seem to pull up behind the guy that passes me at the next red light. I see him looking back at me in his mirror. I usually give them a waive or head nod. Wanna try that again! Love it!
  9. Here is what I have 1971 L16 motor. 32/36 weber downdraft. TP shorty header. Performance clutch on a 4 speed. Turbo mufler with 2" exhaust. Soon switching to Flowmaster or other. Possible lightened flywheel. My question is on the cam. Mine is original & I would like to put in a Isky.475 w/ 270 duration. with new lash caps. A slight lope would be fine with me. Is this worth doing on my motor or is it a waste of 200 bucks. I would like to get up to speed faster for highway driving. Getting tired of always being passed. Would also like to buy dual sidedraft webers but the cost is keeping me from doing that. Thanks for your advice in advance, troy
  10. pulled motor & tranny. Doing a complete re-seal. Adding TP header & Isky cam. Paint & polish. Aluminum radiator. Clean up the engine bay Paint to match

  11. Thanks, I too have wondered about the stut type bags or air cyls. they are smaller around, but they dont get much lift. Only 4" or so. I have also thought about a custom loop set up above the upper control arms but this could be more challenging than its worth. thanks , troy
  12. I seen your truck at Slamology. Sweet build!!!!! I also like your interior. I have a long waaaaay to go on my build. getting ready to bag mine. cant decide if I want to body drop though!!. One question your front slams are they5" or 6"?hard to tell from pic. Thanks for your info
  13. Well Guys here goes. After many trial & errors with bad points & fouled plugs. The search was on for a Single points dist. Found one finally....but junk. Soooo i decided to modify my dual points dist. It can be done, my truck is the proof. It now runs better than ever. Plugs are great looking just the right color, no fouling. YEA! This was no big operation and it took no time at all. Matter of fact you can even line one screw up. And hook dist ground to the Pertronix plate. Hook the red & blk wire to where the kits says. Boom your done. ;)
  14. They do make a heat tape, but i have only seen it for 120v. That would be a great idea!!!! Also a water trap will help in the winter. Not to sure on the anti-freeze additive I will try and ask some others about this. I dont know anyone around my area that uses that. Just my 2 cents worth.
