  1. Ok... I value all of your(plural) experience in these matters. I definitely suffer from delusions of grandeur regarding buildups. Long story short-you're all right. I'm gonna scrap and save up for another car. Until then I'm just gonna lurk around I guess and learn all I can regarding Dimes. Thank you for your input and from saving me from jumping into the deep end. Josh
  2. Lol only the smell of death. I have no keys to the car, which means i can't get into the trunk so far that I've found. Here's to hoping I didnt buy a dead hooker with the car lol
  3. The problem is there are no used Datsuns in my area. I seriously searched for a month and a half, lurking on forums' classifieds and using crazedlist.org, ebay, cars.com, autotrader...and still nothing. Then last week I hit ebay again and there was this sedan in the next town over. This car isnt really on a set schedule to be done, so i'm not pressing ahead full speed all the time. Within a year I wanna have it under its own power, and within I have two I wanna have the major stuff perfect. I have two friends helping me; one who's a mechanical whizz, one who's a body guy. I dont have a car payment, cost of living is low and split 3 ways anyway, and I make $20 /hr, so I just take all the money i'd dump into insurance, car payment, video games, online porn subscriptions, etc, and put them towards the car. Having a car that needs this much love also means I get some much needed time away from my GF, lol. Not having to rush the build gives me ample time to get everything right, and if I find a shell in better shape, all the better.
  4. Hey everybody, my name is Josh. I'm from Tulsa, OK, and I just got my 68 510. It's gonna be a ground up resto/mod. (I'm sure after you see the pix you'll agree with the "ground up" part, lol). After scouring the internets for a long time I finally found this one about 30 miles from home. My idea was either it's THE ONE or at least its a great parts car for the $300 it cost me. It's worth that in glass alone. The engine is seized, but I'll be swapping in an SR20DET into it. My bros and I got it home yesterday and started tearing it down to get a good idea just how deep we're getting in here. Granted it looks BAD in the photos but in actuality the only real bad rust are the rear quarters and the drivers floorpan. Not too bad for 17 years of sitting in an Oklahoma pasture with an average of 90% humidity. It was home to many woodland creatures and a few different species of aggressive ants. They'd try to bury their heads into your skin if they got ahold of you. Vicious little bastards! Next thing it needs is some cheap rubber so it'll roll; the flats it has wont let it go anywhere without a winch or a push from another car. My goals for this car: SR20DET with ~250whp Rear Disc conversion, upgrading the fronts to keep the balance too FMIC Subaru LSD with the stock 3.90 Satin black body, debating gloss black BRE stripes with it. Anyway, thanks for having this invaluable resource, and if there are any local members hit me up, i'm sure i'll need some help at some point! Josh THESE ARE AT HOME: [/img] AND HERE'S HOW I FOUND IT Despite its initial craptastic appearance, it's a good candidate for resto, since it is accident free and has a straight body. After just a few dashes of WD40 the doors closed like new, which was impressive. Tell me what you think!
