  1. Well before going off to some 240sx site, I will try and see if anyone in here would have some information.... Building an RE4R01A transmission to convert my 5spd to 4spd auto. Now I am debating on building a Transmission computer and have my current ECU control shifting. I can just make a switch for a transbrake. Thing is its $300+ more in boards and cases to build the controller. Does anyone know if the internal selenoids will shift the tranny by just sending them a voltage signal? If so I can just make myself a floor shifter and have it be manual control only. How about Automatic shifters that have contacts instead of cables/levers?
  2. Pull the tranny off the engine....see if the disc is in good shape. As the disc wears out, the springs can fall out and jam the clutch so it will not disengage and cause exactly what your talking about. Either way, everyone is only guessing without more input. Pull the tranny and see if its external or internal.

    Front Shocks

Ratsun ---->Datsun Discussion ---> Trucks ----> 720  Front end is all new. Bushings, Balls, Idlers, Bearings, Tires, Brakes, and Shocks. I guess when I said "bouncing" I wasnt being too descriptive. More like a "Boat Ride". The shocks in the trucks are very soft and, of course, for the "80s ride". Bilstein makes a shock for the Toyotas of the same year and it makes a world of difference.....just thought someone has found some firmer shocks for the 720. I will do some measurements and search out a good pair of Bilsteins that work. Problem with our trucks is "spring rate"...its not progressive enough and our shocks (stock form) are very soft, or weak. The Toyota a friend built was just like the 720 as far as "bouncy" and when he put the Bilsteins in, it was VERY firm, no rebound, and handled 1000% better. I will get some x reference numbers for a better shock.....stay tuned. (see what I did there?)

    Front Shocks

Yeah, sounds like I will have to grab a set of shocks from a larger vehicle and just modify them to fit.

    Front Shocks

Ok, tired of these damn front shocks (see what I did there?) Anyway, I am needing some serious heavy duty front shocks so I dont bounce down the road like a basket ball. I wanted some Bilsteins but cannot x reference anything to fit. Anyone know of a brand or substitue that will work? Thought the stock shocks were bad so I replaced them and they are exactly the same....way too soft. Bought a pait of HD shocks and they also are the same. Bounces down the road badly. Before I measure and start searching for a physical match, I am hoping someone has found a good set.
  6. Thnx for that info. I learned alot from that. Found out how that works. Check out the two links above. If the Z makes noise while using both plugs it may be the chamber design wasnt optimal for dual plugs...but yeah..they are used to prevent det. Its also possible that the two flame fronts do make noise, but is not damaging like detonation but chose to use the single coil system under load anyway.
  7. Cam across this research paper. http://www.ijsr.net/archive/v2i8/MDIwMTMyNDM=.pdf Good read. So, is this one... http://www.ijars.in/iJARS%20549.pdf I heard alot about dual plugs reducing detonation....I read these to figue out how and why that works. BUT dual plugs preventing det must coincide with a well designed combustion chamber or it will promote detonation. Now this is something I am familiar with since I have turbo charged dozens of different makes of engines and some need serious reshaping to prevent knock even on low boost. Anyway, I learned dual flames dont knock (well atleast in most engine designs). Thnx for posting the aircraft using dual plugs to prevent this or I wouldnt have found it.

    82 720 trans?

Exactly. The tranny doesnt determine the rpm your cruising at. The 5 speeds all have a OD final....its the axle gear ratio. I had three rear end third members. A 3.7 and a 3.9 and a 4.11. at 70mph I am at 3400 rpms with my 4.11 and my 245 50 15s. 29mpg, with the 3.7 195/75 14s it gets 34. This is with a 5W and a KA24DE. Unfourtunately the 4.11 is slower than the 3.70 when it comes to time slips.
  9. TBI is EFI. The fuel is controlled elecronically. ah...nevermind...just re-read and realized you werent saying it wasnt. What year Z did you swap into your truck?
  10. I wasnt saying all Zs are dual plug (if thats what you were referencing). I meant that I thinnk all the dual plug Zs had the feature. I want to verify that statement though. Book says "some", yet I havent found one yet....so its atleasat "most". What year is your truck? cali or fed? TBI or carb? Im trying to narrow down which ones have it and which do not. If all your wiring and vacuum lines are srock, just unplug the primary coil and drive it...if it shuts off under load it has it. The vacuum switch for it is on the passenger fender wall or near it. Mine was missing and I had to replace it since someone swapped the carb out. Its not important, but I am a bit like you, I love frinding out new things. I really want to find one that uses both coils under load.
  11. The shut-off feature is not only in the distributor. FI engines used the distributor, carb engines used a vacuum switch. my 1984 uses a vacuum selenoid to disable the power to the secondary coil. The coil positive goes through the switch...when vacuum drops it opens the circuit. My 1987 used the distributor controlled from the ECU. Thats why I believe the author of the book noted only some vehicles had the coil drop feature not being aware that some used a vacuum switch and not the distributor. Yet in the same vacuum diagram shows the vacuum actuated coil switch. If anyone has a dual plug engine that they feel doesnt drop a coil when under load, please check for me. Disconnect your primary coil and see if the engine dies under load. I just checked 4 other dual plug trucks and all drop the secondary coil.

    My 720

Yes, made a new thread. Building a true truck block for better fitment for the PS pump, oil pan and engine mounts. Stripping the engine bay, building a new wire harness, new ECU, new aluminum radiator, 50 shot nitrous, recovering the seats, carpet, ext..... Its in a new thread.

    Fender mirrors

Gonna get myself a set of fender mirrors also......I like them. They will of course need to be the chrome original style mirrors. NOTE: I will make sure they are not ancient EU mirrors.
