  1. Do you make it the Datsuns and coffee monthly meets?
  2. What did you torque them to? I have a set of the same wheels I'm looking to recondition also. Also, does painting the inner lip make it stand out more? Is that why you did it?
  3. Just installed a set of twin cam solex locks. It was fairly straight forward. This write-up should work for most of it. The stock trunk lever has to be reused and modified to fit on the solex lock. It is fairly straightforward. Are these any harder to pick than stock locks? I remember taking in my 78 f350 to a locksmith because it had no door key when I bought it. He took a blank off the rack and a file to the parking lot. He made a key with a file within 3 min by putting the blank in the tumbler and attempting to turn it, then putting the dirt from the key onto his finger and filing it to the pattern on his finger. Hopefully this at least eliminates that chicanery. But it's not like 510 blanks are very standard issue.
  4. I hope you can find a decent buyer for your truck. I think its been finished quite nicely.
  5. i think the market for actual interest (money available + interest) is very small. then when you factor in the fee to transport a car back to the US it is very high, costly. maybe more money in sourcing used/rare performance parts from UpGarage. I dont have a car though, just a motorcycle, so getting parts then getting them shipped is kinda a pia. my japanese is poor so searching the site for up garage to find whatever im looking for and which location it is at sucks too. apparently they have autobacs used store like up garage but im unsure where it is.
  6. 80mpg would make me smile but potentially the scowl would return caused by it being so slow
  7. i think flex auto review had a 1965 Silvia. those cars look like artwork, but also are very rare...maybe only 5 in the US. classics in ok condition cost a mint in nihonland
  8. http://www.crown-classics.com/these guys rebuild old toyota crowns and put supra engines in them....affiliated with moon eyes brand that cali sold off to japan a while back
  9. I live here in japan. Goo-net is cool, they have an android app too but its all in nihongo kanji stuffs. they have english on their site, but in order to check out some of them your japanese must be pretty good. most places dont have an english speaker there. also, in general i would say that the classics are mostly good 10ft cars, up close you will find some horrorshow rust repairs. one shop that is on there that flex auto review, i went to it in yokohama a little subway ride from my apartment. the old skylines looked good, but upon further inspection were terrible basket cases covered up with packed in bondo. we are talking the bottom of the door and body below the door stuffed with filler and bondo, the trunk was made of fiberglass because the original had rusted away. it looked like a spare tire would fall through the floorboard of the trunk. not all shops are like this, but i believe that many believe that the look is more important than the function and how safe or solid the cars are. IMHO
  10. let me know if you are not going to road trip to the west coast. Id like to make a confirmed offer on it if that doesnt pan out.
  11. are these adapters still available? im looking for contact info on the seller
  12. got the wheels today and they look nice. cant wait to get the mesh powdercoated black. thanks again, man.
  13. well, there are a lot of opinions out there (many of which are highly unqualified.) If you want any info, the good, the bad, and the ugly I am more than happy to answer any questions you have or tell you about my time in the navy. Been in for about 8.5 years now and I fully agree its not for everyone but definitely no regrets here. good luck with your decision. oh yea, the nuke field has wicked fast advancement too, many make e6 by 6 years and e7 by 10 years. reenlistment bonuses capped at $90k, but its challenging work. hard to qualify for too though but most people move on to jobs with GE, samsung, westinghouse, not to mention the obvious power generation industry (one of the most stable job markets.)
