  1. I decided to make a time-lapse video with my GoPro :geek: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9sNMmyL7Z4
  2. Make sure to follow my build on facebook if you want quicker updates. Plus there's more information and photos on there :-) https://www.facebook.com/ProjectSR71
  3. I know I haven't updated this thread much lately, but here are some updated photos: You can always keep up with the build on the Facebook build page, here: https://www.facebook.com/ProjectSR71
  4. I have so many photos. Here are a few of the Evo 8 seat installed. This is page 5 and at the bottom is about where I left off posting photos. If you scroll up from there you will see all the photos of the flood. Then if you keep going forward in time, page 4....page 3....page 2....page 1, etc, you will see all the recent progress photos. The seat install and the custom steering craziness. http://www.nostalgicimaging.com/Project-SR71/SR-71/i-g4BX2cM
  5. Insurance paid off the Evo, yes. There was a lien against it. Well, I finally got the Evo8 driver seat fully mounted and installed last night. The seat is solid and the sliders still function. This involved cutting off all stock mounting tabs from the seat, cutting them down, welding them back on in a different location/orientation, as well as making custom mounts on the Datsun so the seat would bolt in correctly. Next up is to complete the custom steering setup.
  6. Sorry I haven't posted here in a while. A little over a month ago (in Pensacola, FL) we were involved in an epic flood! We lost almost everything, so we have been trying to get our life back together etc. My family and I are currently staying with my grandparents until we can get everything sorted out. The flood was caused by Pensacola getting something like 27" of rain in a few hours time and caused lots of devastation and destruction in the area. We had waist high water in the house and in the garage. I have lots of photos, but I really don't want to post 100 photos lol We lost both of our cars (a 2004 Evo and a 96 Mercedes C220). While the datsun did have water over the engine, nothing really happened to it that could be fixed. I had it towed to my grandparents house and I'm starting to work on it again. When I pulled the drain plug, about 4 quarts of water poured out. I pulled the head and the top of the pistons look fine. The head needed to come off anyway so the machine shop can remove these 2 broke cam cap bolts. Somehow I acquired 2 Evo8 seats ;-) and they are going in the datsun! You can see all of the updated photos on my website or the facebook page. http://www.nostalgicimaging.com/Project-SR71/SR-71/ https://www.facebook.com/ProjectSR71
  7. I got this pipe for free and it will be used somewhere in this location. This is the Datsun, S30 steering rod/column and it's mated to the Nissan S13 rack. It has to go through there And I cut it in half I had to cut more off of both sides in order to get it to the proper length This is what happens when you are only 1 person, only have 2 hands, and only have basic tools lol
  8. Here I have some strings taped up to roughly mark where the dash and center of the steering column are: The pedal assembly which will need to be modified.
  9. The changing of the hood direction was a necessity and a preference due to the wheelbase extension as well as the countless modifications to the front end. I'm guessing you don't have facebook? It is a good way to keep up to date with the build progress though as that is where I primarily post updates to. https://www.facebook.com/ProjectSR71 I also have all of the same photos posted on my website here: http://www.nostalgicimaging.com/Project-SR71/SR-71/ I'm not sure which page the wreck photos are on though as I have over 1,000 photos documenting the build. If you like photography, you may want to have a look at my site: http://www.nostalgicimaging.com/ and on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NostalgicImaging
  10. Thank you! I appreciate that you noticed this fact as it's an important part of the build--the majority of the build has been with scrap metal, free scrap parts, etc.
  11. If anyone has a 7/8" heim joint just laying around collecting dust, and they want to donate it to me, it would be greatly appreciated :-) I need this to held complete the steering setup.
  12. My S13 steering column/rack out of my wrecked car. Some scrap sheet metal that I got for free
  13. This is the scrap metal I started out with. It's off of a truck bed topper....and it was free. Beginning of making a fuel cell cradle Beginning of fuel cell sump cage Starting to mount it in the datsun ...the aftermath. While the cell is mounted, it's far from complete. I still need to add more bracing and supports for it as well as fill in the open areas with sheetmetal.
