    Z22 vs z24

Good info! When I rebuilt the z24 I only had a z22 intake. I did however trace the gasket onto it and ported it bigger and into the matching square shape to the head. Not sure if that helped or hurt but works fine. I have, not long ago, picked up 82 Toyota axles planning to SAS, they both have 5:13 gears and Aussie lockers. Got front and rear for about $300! Also I kept the z22 valve cover, looks much better. So is the only difference in displacement between the two motors stroke? For a truck that sees a lot of off road and it's fair share of highway would you recommend one motor over the other? P.S. Will a back glass out of a 86 2wd fit my 82?

    Z22 vs z24

Have a 82 720 4wd with a z24 that I rebuilt and swapped. I have Webber 38/38, did away with all emission and unnecessary vacuum lines, also mild porting. I came out with a ton of power (more than expected), example I could burn out 33 mud tires even with the high geared stock exhaust, and with the 5 speed manual transmission 5th gear pulls great. After giving this truck absolute hell I blew the head gasket. Surprise! My question is what are the specific differences in the z24 and z22? Stroke/ bore and is one head better than the other and interchangeable, are the intake/exhaust manifolds same or is one better? Basically can you mix and match the two motors to create a perfect mix of power and dependability? Thanks in advance

    SAS advice

I just picked up a front axle from an 82 toyota, and plan to start the conversion into my 82 720. Thought i would ask advice and hints from people that has done this before. thanks in advance
  4. Does anybody know where i can order a seal kit or even a full rebuild kit for a '82 720 transfer case?
  5. Does anybody know how much the z22 and z24 weighs?
  6. Ok thanks. Cam and header is alot of $$ for not much power. 38/38 weber on the way already!
  7. Has any body tried the performance cams for the z24's? Or the header? What kind of power gains are y'all seeing?

    Weber??

Where is the cheapest place to buy?

    Weber??

Is the 32-36 the best carb for my newly rebuilt z24? Fyi: 4x4 mud truck pushing big tires
  10. Got the gear reduction installed today and works great!
  11. I tried putting the old starter back on today. (The solenoid works half the time is why I'm replacing) but I get it on and after playing with the solenoid it works and spins the engine perfectly. So I take oreillys crap back and they claim it's good so they won't let me have my money back, so I figure I'll try the gear reduction starter. It should be in tomorrow so I'll update on that. If it don't work I'll make sure it don't pass thier test and I'll walk out with my money back. I'm done with oriellys
  12. Damn mine is oreillys too!
  13. I pulled it off and drove it around and it ran great. The battery I pulled out of my 76' charger so it's been cranking a 360 v8.
  14. Has anyone tried the gear reduction starter? I may get one of those or either another regular starter but brand new instead of rebuilt
  15. ok, i just replaced both battery cables. i have tried two different batteries that should be good. the motor is freshly rebuilt and today i finally just just pulled it off and it cranked and ran fine. but the starter wont turn but just a hair before it stops and starts getting hot. i pulled a spark plug from each cylinder and then the starter would spin the engine fine. im going to try another battery soon that i know is 100%. im considering maybe a gear reduction starter. not sure if their any good though
