  1. After all the excellent help my son and I have decided to rebuild the weber (I ordered the kit yesterday). We pulled the weber because it had been sitting unused for a year and had gummed and varnished up form sitting. So next step is getting the carb rebuilt. The valves have be set and then distributor and timing. After that comes clutch and break issues. Thanks again. Matt & John
  2. Figures. So rebuilding the old weber would be better than trying to find the original Hitachi you think?
  3. My son and I are in the process of restoring a 1970 521 and we have removed the aftermarket Weber carb and put this carb back on the truck. We were told that it was the original Hitachi to the truck but some things are not lining up quite right. Before we go any further we are wondering if this is indeed the correct carb for a 1970. Any ideas?
  4. This is the 1970 521 that my son and I bought together. He is posting about it on reddit/r/datsun and I am posting about it here. As you can see from the pictures it is in fair condition for an east coast truck. We ran an compression test this weekend and you can see the results on my other post. We are hoping to get it up and running by the summer or 2015 but time and money will tell. You can see some of the extra parts that I got with it in the bed. A hood, tailgate, new bumper, valance under front bumper, new grill, new package shelf, 4 headlight and buckets and bright rings, Hitachi & Weber carburetors, stock air cleaner, fuel pump, tons of small NOS parts nuts and bolts and badges, 5 new hubcaps, 3 sets of bumperetts, instrument cluster, original keys and and a bunch of other stuff I have forgotten. Oh, and a clear title too. We paid $500.00 for the lot. I will keep this thread posted as things progress.
  5. I have a question about engine compression and if I need to rebuild my trucks engine. I have a 1970 521 with the L 16 engine. I ran a compression test yesterday and got theses results. Cylinder 1 = 150 Cylinder 2 = 95 Cylinder 3 = 140 Cylinder 4 = 130 From what I remember from rebuilding air cooled engines this is NOT GOOD! What would the forums advise be. Rebuild the entire engine or just a ring job or get a reman engine. Any help keeping this project going forward would be appreciated. [/url]
  6. mklotz70 & Skyblue521 Thanks for such quick responses. I will get the truck this afternoon and get under it and look to see what is what. I will post some photos too.
  7. I am new to this forum and to Datsun trucks but not Datsun vehicles. I am picking up a 1970 512 tomorrow and one of the things I well need to address right away is the ride height. The truck has been lowered 3” and the current owner (who bought the truck this way) says that the ride is very harsh over bumps. What I would like to do is return the ride height to stock. Here is the issue. I can find all kinds of information on how to lower the truck. I can figure out how to do the process in reverse but what I don’t know and can’t seem to find any information on is what was the stock ride height? Where should the torsion bars be indexed to for a stock and what size (in inches) were the rear blocks before the truck was lowered? Thanks in advance and I will post some pictures of the 512 soon.
