  1. Thanks to all you members for promptly responding to my inquiry, but I forgot to add that the smoke only comes out when I punch the gas. When the car is on idle the smoke is hardly noticeable. I might have made the topic sound too major. But thanks for the advice everyone. Kind Regards Peter
  2. Ratwagon1600, Thanks so much for responding. After putting the motor back in when the headgasket was replaced, I bought new NGK plugs and NGK wiresets as well to use. The only leak that we have noticed so far is a small one near the water pump that might be the cause of the loss of water, but it was just a small amount that was gone when I checked the radiator last night. Gasket wise we only used the headgasket and the rest we went Rebello style by using RTV. My knowledge with Datsun cars is so slim, but I'm am glad to have a friend that knows his way around L series motors. But I will pass your theory behind the problem to him and see what he thinks. I really appreciate your input Mr. Ratwagon1600 Kind Regards Peter
  3. 510antihero, I put 4 quarts of oil in. The dipstick nozzle was moved toward the front of the block near the alternator by the previous owner and they bent the original tube. Idk know why they did that, but we patched the hole up and placed the dipstick nozzle back to its normal location. Here is another issue, I am getting a higher reading on the dipstick of the oil level since it looks to me like the dipstick nozzle looks shorter, the ratio in length of the nozzle and the dipstick just doesnt go ying and yang. Kind Regards Peter
  4. Hello Ratsun Members, I have come across a smoking issue on my 510. My friend and I have took the L18 motor out due to the blown gasket that it had. The motor runs and sounds healthy now. We compression tested all cylinder's and got all the same reading of 160 psi on all 4's. We have plans on converting it to electronic ignition and my friend has told me that it should help. Members please share your knowledge on what I can do to help resolve this problem. Kind Regards Peter
