  1. Yup, My Datsun is still around. 2 moves and getting my associates degree, it's still around. If my Datsun does only one thing, it does it well. RUST. it's all surface rust but still annoying. I have figured out that I'm not good at building gas tanks. Mine leaks in water, and I don't really want to fix it. It's been sitting for a few months now with fresh gas and a new battery but still needs tlc. I will be honest here. I have gotten into building / flying model planes these past 5 years. I put bucket seats in it from an Audi 90, I tried to convince myself that they were comfortable and I would grow to like them but I don't. O will be putting the old bench seat back in soon I hope. I was just thinking about getting her back on the road, I haven't put nearly as many miles as I planned to on it yet. If I get to working on it I'll try to post back here.
  2. all the above is mostly true. yes the intake manifold will be close to the master cylinder, yes the nose will be hevier, yes you will have to cut into the fire wall, yes you will need to move trans cross bar and shorten the drive shaft. Now I bought my 521 for 300 bucks, i now have over60 times that. it all adds up and i'm sure i'm forgetting something. but in the end you will have a one of a kind. put it this was I also have a 1998 mustang cobra (stock)i raced my truck against it with my brother driving the cobra, it was a door to door race up to 100mph. It's cheaper to buy a fast car then to build one. Just not as fun. It's your truck, time, and money, have fun with it
  3. here are some pics I found. This is how the dash looked before, during, and after I did the new fiberglass work.
  4. been busy crossin my tee and dattn my i's on the 2jz 521. Iv'e been reworking my dash. I had to reposition the gauge cluster, intsead of repainting it, I decided to cover it mith some pleather. turned out pretty well I think [/img]
  5. thanks, i went to my buddy shop to put the 521 up on a lift to get a good shot of the exhaust and he told me the boss would charge, what has this economy do to us? now I'm going to really source my options.
  6. Ever heard that doing it right the first time is the best way to do something? Trial and error seems to be my song and dance. I've been redoing many things to my 71 datsun. I started with the bed, removing more and more of the rusty cancer. Then I moved to the exhaust. ordered a header off of ebay in hopes it would fit. Yeah right. reeworked it along with the rest of the exhaust. Had to redesign the shift linkage and trans cooler. That was fun! now i'm on my way to redo the gastank and battery locations. here is a pic of my new header, more pics to follow.[/img]
  7. How about a rear view mirror, I need one for my 521. I live in a TN.
  8. Tell me if this makes since toy you. I had my driveshaft back in and it still vibrated, the next day I took the u-joint back apart and 180 the drive shaft and put the u-joint back together, now no vibration, it has all new parts. I was least to say excited! First time ever that I could think straight since I've put it together. I still have a few rattles from the solid moter mounts, but nothing like it use to be. now I need to adress those water leaks. anybody know what bolt size/thread pitch those wiper arm rod mount are? I lost mine during the rebuild. I think I'm going to drive it another month or so and start taking it apart to paint........ I think.
  9. ha ha, seriously though I would love to post some pictures of my bed modifications but I haven't done anything to it since I first posted. The rack and pinion is from flaming river and is a pinto style and no it's not power. I used an IDIDIT (i did it) steering column GM style, 2 in column drop, it's a 32in. straight column shift paintable. I suggest the 30in universil floor shift (for you 4-5 speed manul) tilt, polished or chrome. I also used a floor mount on the fire wall. If you decide to go this route you will have to do some fire wall modification, as well as some rewiring(blinkers, hazzards, and horn). My column goes through just above where the floor meets the fire wall. The stock location will need to be welded up and mounts for the rack will need to be fabricated. Power steering would be nice since I have a cast iron L6 on the front axel but it was two less hoses to worry about, one less fluid level to check, and more power to the rear wheels. But parking is a mother... Since I used a supra front K member I bolted it in basically, I had to make a few modifications. Hope this answered you question.
  10. help! I've been hijacked!!
  11. Hey guys. Well over the past few weeks (6 to be exact)I have been trying to get my driveshaft fixed. With the Lexus transmission and the supra rearend I had to make something up to work. About a year ago I had a piece made to bolt to the Lexus transmission, It had a slight vibration at 40 then @ 80 or so. Frikkin aggravating after a while. So I went to a local driveshaft shop, dude was an @$$, but he gave me a good machine shop to work with. After a few weeks of working with the shop I was at a dead end again. I went to another driveshaft shop that I was told had closed down but is very much still open. Dude there is amazing, we had a solution in about 30min or so. I had to have this one piece machined to make it all work, after three weeks I got it back today. I put it on and suddenly realize I'm still screwed, SO I guess after all the cutting I have done on this thing and modifing she likes to give me the FINGER!!!when ever she can, an today was an oppertune time. The trans has an alignment shaft that sticks out past the mounting surface of the driveshaft, well I'm so lucky. It's now is in the way of the u-joint. SO now I have to cut it off. I would love to smak the crap out of her, but then that would just be that much more body work to fix later on. All I want to do is drive around and enjoy a smooth ride in my hotrod.
  12. Looking great Bob, Seeing these pics brings back so many memories. :)Now I bet your feeling reved up to make some more progress on that baby huh? ;)Nothing fells better than when a plan comes together, especialy when you make the plan an follow through. Glad to see the progress, keep up the great work!
  13. Here is a cell phone photo I took of the cans I made to house the Hid projectors. I had to heavily modify the head lamp mounting brackets and retaining rings. I used some parts of the headlamp housings to make and mount the igniter and make it acessesable. I also had to cut out a hole in the head light bucket in the fender well to make these work. I made the "high" beam the same way, but they are much shorter. I used the projectors out of a 2007 nissan maxima that had been wrecked, and cut out the HID projectors and components. The grey part of the can is PVC pipe for sewer drainage I bought NEW from Home Depot. The lens and housing is an APC H4 conversion lamp that I took one step further. I like the way it turned out.
