  1. I dont think its the carb since i swapped out for one that is in my dads 620 and it still did the same, but that was a few months ago.. I tryed to start it this past weekend and all i did was crank and crank , it would try to start but it would jus keep on cranking.. i did smell exhaust fumes plus u can see a spark in the tester.. like i said before this thing is wierd .. i did a compression test and it looks good to me.. piston 1 2 3 4 185 190 195 188 with oil in the cylinders 195 200 209 195
  2. I got the L 20 from a truck that sat around for years too. The owner to tell me he stop using cause the clutch gave out.. I actually got the eng to run in the other truck before taking it out , just put a gas can to he carb after a few minutes it came to life.. It ran a bit rough but the carb was dirty too... so i took the eng out that truck , while it was out I send the heads to be rebuilt after that my headaches began.. i put the heads back but got the timming off by 180 degre. I figure that out , then the truck would idle for hours, but a quick drive down the street it would die out and not turn back on.. I had some clear fuel filters on it an saw crap in then. so i took the gas tank down had it cleaned and coated , replaced the fuel metal lines too.. It would still do the same thing... The gas in it right now its only a few months old , I have been trying to get it running cause where i live there talking crap because of the truck just sitting there... Thats why im asking for some help.. I just dont know what else to try.. I will do a compression test again today, who knows maybe the head gasket is bad.. :(
  3. Like it says in the title need help to get my 521 to run.. I did a L 20 swap a few years ago then my life got busy ( isnt that always the case ) and never really got it to run right.. now it turn on for a few seconds then it shuts off.. :( before you guys jump all over me yes i have checked all the lil things.. the plug wires are in the right order, there is a spark , there is gas in the carb , swapped in a carb from my dads 620 that is running good with no change , I retimed the eng like it says on Banzai video with no change. im all out of ideas.. So im asking for help if someone that is good with the L 20 eng and is willing to drive to Paramount Ca. can come out an look at it , who knows 2 heads are better then 1. The weekends works best for me ,but if someone is willing to help send me a message and see what we can work out.... Thanks in advance Armando...
  4. Just to keep u guys updated.. I pull the dizzy and moved the dizzy shaft . that did the trick about it backfiring thru the carb. it trys to start but it dies rite away, to make it more fun my starter decided to give up.. So after getting a rebuilt one. I changed carbs with the ones i have here and no luck. I think the timming is correct now, cause it wants to run but the carbs are crap. My next move is get my dads 79 620 and barrow his carb for a while.. if thats it i send my out to get rebuilt..... Thanks guys for ur help .. lets see what happends now :D
  5. Thanks Banzai for the drawings.. It looks like i was right my wiring is correct, the only difference is that i have a condencer on the black &white wire . just like it shows on the 620 technical site.. the next step is to try checking my timing like datsun72wagon said maybe i did jumped a tooth on the dizzy shaft.. Oh and dont worry Banzai about this truck going to the dump , i have too much stuff into it to junk it.. It will see the road again one of this days :D....... i will take pics to show u guys that great day. :) Thanks again for u help ....
  6. wow that would have been a whole lot easyer, but im sad to say i dont even know where the L16 dizzy is anymore.. this whole eng swap thing started like 4 years ago , plus i moved to top it all off.. Thanks for the Info guys i will try it out and see what happens.. im ready to drive my truck again.. my house needs lil work and it would be great having the truck, to haul stuff around........
  7. HI there all .. I been trying to get my 520 back on the road , with no luck. I switch the L 16 for a 78 L20 with the remote ignition box( :( ) I been trying to get it to run but all it does is crank an backfire from the carb, nice lil puff of smoke comes out .. First i thought it was the wiring to the remote Igintion box, but i think thats correct. I have a spark tester and it shows the piston is getting a spark.. I have changed 3 carbs already, 2 stock and a 32/36 weber that i have used on my Toyota in the past. so i dont know whats going on.. Any help u guys can give me would be great......
  8. Man that sound like its going to be a cool event.. To bad its like 7 hours away from my house :(.. maybe next time:).........
