  1. So this would be the best option? Not saying I would buy one, but if I can find this alternator, it would be the one to get? How much fabrication am I looking at to get it mounted into place on the L24? I can swap pulleys easily enough, but not sure about the rest.
  2. I'm so confused now. I'm looking for preferably a 80-90amp alternator that is internally regulated. Minimal fabrication on getting it mounted would be preferred. I don't mind messing around with wiring so that doesn't really matter. I've read that the Bosch units are crap and it seems there are a lot of options. Is it possible to take my current alternator to a shop and get it rebuilt to an 80 amp unit with internal regulation? I think a 60 amp might even be plenty for my car though. I'm not currently running halogen or HID lights and all the electrics are stock minus the electric fuel pump the previous owner installed. Once the car comes back from the shop, I'm contemplating on putting together a new harness. I understand that entails lots of time and work, but it couldn't hurt to replace and update what is now a 42 year old wiring harness.
  3. Found this in my search for the FSM and owners manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/datsun-service-manuals
  4. The center consoles are different between the auto and manual. When I get home tonight a can take a picture of a center console for a manual transmission that I just acquired for my auto to manual swap. I don't have the auto console handy for a side by side, but you can compare it to yours.
  5. I'm wondering if the site is partially down for repairs or something. I tried to get the owners manual and FSM for the 240Z and it just take me to blank pages or broken links. The link for the Z31 manuals still works, S30 gets error 404, and s130 gets the 404 error as well. If someone has these and would be willing to share through dropbox or google drive, I would greatly appreciate it. I would prefer a 73 owners manual but it's not critical.

They look like a black version of the wheels that LovemyJDM has on his car. If that is the case, LovemyJDM called them "Wheel Vintiques Steelies"

Been a really long time since I posted here, but here is a pic I took of my Z yesterday. They are about to paint it and I went to talk paint. I'm going with the original Metalic Blue that it came from the factory with. The paint sample seemed to get a little lighter than I expected as it dried, but I have to wait until we get some sunshine so I can really see how it looks. I may end up having them darken it a bit if I feel it's too light. The picture of the paint sample isn't very good. I think the white balance is off a bit. That thing in the background is actually a part of my keyboard and is black.
  8. Well, still waiting on pics. Either my internet here really sucks or I'll need to teach somebody how to attach pictures. The shop has tried emailng them but I have yet to get one that worked properly. I have sent a cd so they could burn the pictures to that. Hopefully I'll have some soon. I do have a question though. I'm planning on purchasing the clutch and flywheel sometime this week but I need some suggestions on a reliable source to order from online. NOPI has what I'm looking for but having never used them before I'm a little leary since I'm so far away from the states it makes it hard to handle problems if they should arise.
  9. Nice 240! You already know where I stand on the transmission decision lol. Can't wait to see what you do with this one. I think quite a few older project cars start out as just a get it fixed and running. Then you look at it and think that while I'm at it I'll do this as well. Before you know it your one time fixer upper has become a full blown project.
  10. I've had this once it it really sucked. Lying wide awake and unable to move anything is not a fun feeling. But as I laid there i was slowly able to start moving until everything returned to normal. I hope I never experience it again.
  11. Not sure about the counterweight but if you get it everything balanced they can add weight to the crankshaft if needed. I'm thinking I should probably pick up a spare block to try this out with. I still have plenty of time to go other directions, it's just at the moment I'm pretty set on building an engine that can go up in the rpms. At first I was thinking a 3L stroker would be nice and I still do, but I like the idea of having an engine that loves to rev. I just figured that increasing the stroke isn't to conducive to high rpm shenanigans. Thats why I kind of went back to staying near the stock stroke.
  12. I gues I should expand on why I'm thinking of going to forged pistons. The end state for my engine is for it to stay as close to 2.4L as possible. I understand it'll increase when bored and honed, but not by very much. I want to shoot for a safe RPM limit of 8k. I'm not really going for huge power, but instead for a responsive engine (and I love engines that like to spin). I'm wanting the forged rods and pistons for the strength, but I was also thinking that they might save just a little weight. Then once I have all the pieces get the rotating assembly balanced. Then I could turn my attention to the top end and rebuild it for high rpm fun. I've been looking around and have my shopping list pretty much figured out minus the rods and pistons since it looks like they may need to be custom built. Unfortunately though I'm stock compiling my list for a while until I get back from deployment and see what I have left once I pick it up from the shop after getting stripped and repainted.

Love how just in front of the car it says "It's Light" :D
  14. Yes! ummm, did more window shopping. just need to pay for the clutch/flywheel to finish up gathering parts for an auto -> manual swap. May not get everything i wanted done while deployed but at least 2 major things will be done. (Hoping rumors aren't correct so i can do a couple other things.)
  15. Nothing is really wrong with the cast pistons. I'm just wanting to lighten it up as much as possible to make it more rev friendly.
