  1. Not sure if any of you guys remember me. I bought a white 73' 240z that was in need of a LOT of work & posted it on here. I still have it, but it's not going to be drive-able for quite a while lol. (Skip if you just want pics) I bit the bullet & parted out what I could on it for now just to make what I spent on it back, like a few of you guys recommended. A few months later I was looking for some sections for the car's frame. I called another Z guy around me, whom I've known for a while & bought a few things from in the past & helped him when he needed it, to see if he could point me in the right direction. We went back & forth for a bit & then he tells me, "Well.. I don't know if you'd be able to, but I actually have another 240Z that I picked up recently. It needs a few things but everything's there. It's been sitting at my work's parking lot because I have no room to store it at home & it runs kind of rough. I wouldn't mind if you took it off my hands. If you're interested; I do have to tell you that there's one other guy that's already came and looked at it & he seems pretty interested. I'll keep you posted on what happens with him before I confirm anything with you, but you are second in line" Feeling a bit bummed because I could tell the other buyer wanted it(he drove 4 hours just to come see it), I asked him how much he wanted , & it was a lot. I told him to keep me posted anyways & let me know if it sells or not About a week later, the Z guy called me back. Turns out he lost the title & had to file for a new one. The other buyer that was ahead of me didn't feel like waiting for the new one to come in so he backed out. This was awesome, but it also sucked because I was BROKE at the time & I wasn't anywhere close to what he was originally asking. I asked him how much he'd take for it again anyways, & he tells me, "Well, since you've been pretty good to me all this time & I know how much you love these cars.. I'll give it to you for $1200." Needless to say, I'm very lucky & thankful I'm on super good terms with the guy because that same Z is now mine haha She's a 73' with 68,000 miles. -4 Speed & pretty much all original -Interior is in awesome shape -I've heard it run!(I think the "runs rough" problem was just bad gas. I drained the gas tank today & the gasoline was brown & smelled like varnish. No sediment though) -Needs a slave cylinder -Not as much rust as I expected, which surprises me because this car has been in PA since the early 80's -Paint needs attended to(clear coat, & a few surface rust spots), but it's there & actually looks good in the sun...from 10 feet away lol -Didn't come with the carbs the guy used to show me it ran when I first looked at it. -The left frame rail needs "attended to" but I'm already in the process of taking care of that -The same guy I got it from spray painted the engine bay black.. & the valve color a weird red-ish pink color that has a blue tint to it -__- - Fucking. Rat's. Nest. This car had two of them. Removing them has caused me to develop a, "kill on sight" kind of hatred for those little fucking assholes Pics: You can see what I'm on about in the clear coat in the picture & sorry for this last hipstergram pic haha, just thought it was cool My plans for it right now are just to get it moving, which should be happening tomorrow actually because I'm picking up a set of carbs & I just bought the slave cylinder. Future plans are there, but won't happen till winter time when I store it away & can really tear down into the car
  2.  She's beautiful man. Great job bringing the color back
  3. You just gotta keep at it man. It takes a lot of persuasion but she'll come around. You'll come to find that steps #4, #6, & #8 are a crucial necessity haha
  4. She hasn't been haha Thank you for the input man. I'd rather someone tell me like it is than try & tell me otherwise lol With the exception of the hatch, all the panels line up. I've gone over this thing through & through & there is a lot of rot.. but structure wise it's pretty damn solid, believe it or not. I'm aware that it's gonna need quite a lot, but I'm biting the bullet & going to try & make it work. I've already purchased a roof with the pillars attached & a few other things the car's gonna need body wise & I'm pulling the engine & tranny out this weekend to swap another engine an tranny in. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to save her. But in the event that I can't, I know I can easily make my money back & find a cheap runner just like you mentioned. It still confuses me because the majority of the rot was literally on the floorpans: it literally begins & ends at the floor pans. The tranny tunnel, seat rails, frame rails, & almost everywhere else underneath the car are %100 solid.
  5. That's true, but you'd be surprised how ridiculously hard they are to come by up north on the east coast. But that's the plan man. Worst comes to worst I could part it out & make back what I spent on it Yes I do have my hands full haha. But I agree! This car was close to being sent to the scrap yard & IMO it was worth saving. & hahaha awesome suggestions. Being that it's Friday, I may actually follow your advice & "prioritize" my list ^_^ Thanks!
  6. Finally got myself a Fairlady  I've been on the hunt for a while & found myself a 1973 Datsun 240z for super cheap! This is gonna be a longggg and relatively slow build.. but I'm already in love haha Pro's: -Complete Car -Almost everything is there -No Accidents -It's a great base for a project -It's a 240z(when you say the word "two-forty" around my area, people immediately assume you mean S13 240sx & you drift. Nobody knows what a "Datsun" or a "240z" is around here nor do many people have one lol) -Underside isn't that bad -The brakes work great lmao. I was very surprised -The car rolls with no issues Con's: -Doesn't run for multiple reasons -Tires are no longer tires -The roof.. lmao -Floor Boards are...not there lol -Rust, but the majority of it is surface rust -Automatic(gonna be changed VERY soon. I have an extra L24 with a 4 speed attached) -Salvage title(I'll explain) -I'm confident it sat for over 20 years -it's DIRTY Pics! Just got delivered to me yesterday from Kentucky :hyper: Pic was off my buddies' iPhone lol. That's me sitting underneath the car hoping I'm not going to regret buying the car sight unseen lmao The car was offloaded and then.. With a bit of "questionable" towing, a shit ton of weird stares, a lot of cuss words, & a lot of pushing; the car made it safely into my buddies' garage 2 blocks down the street.(excuse the mess lol, this whole thing was on short notice) Had to run back to work so that was that for yesterday Today: Took some time to open up the car & get things addressed+situated (& like a fxcking ninja, I quickly grabbed one of the stickers I've had for a few years & threw that thing on the car without anybody noticing :ninja: ) Some rust here, but there's no holes Rear carpet was SHITTY, but almost no real rust underneath! The spare was in great shape,it even had the genuine 1973 air that it came with! The factory jack & stoppers were in the car too which I guess is a little bonus Engine bay looks pretty solid. The battery tray is actually in 1 piece but it's covered in surface rust. The hood light is there as well which kind of surprised me. The motor isn't locked up & I removed the valve cover just see how ugly it was underneath. A bit of sludge around the gasket, but absolutely nothing but clean oil & clean surfaces everywhere else. Hell the chain even looked brand new lol. Either way though just about everything is there for me to swap onto my other L24(which is in even better shape)with the 4 speed on it, which will be getting swapped into my Z very soon  The "bad" stuff/sadface Of all reasons for a car to obtain a "Salvage title".. the reason my Z has one is because when the previous owner had it.. the guy kept it outside & limbs from trees fell on the roof which put many dents into it.. & one of the bigger limbs falling happened to be heavier than the others, & just so happened to fall & hit the top right corner of the hatch where it meets the roof..which indented that whole area.. which gave the car a salvage title. It's honestly not even that bad in person & the hatch has absolutely no issues opening & closing! I plan on doing something about this soon after I have my other engine swapped into the car This part also has me a bit confused.. My floorboards are Fxcked(sadface), but the framerails underneath are pretty damn solid? The only real rusted portion of the underside was on/right around the floorboards? I didn't think to take a pic of the rails, but I'll have them up next time I post. Excuse the terrible pics btw, I was losing daylight & had to use the flash on my phone The Interior was DIRTY!! Bugs, spiders, dust, dirt, & OLD shit everywhere. I'm dismantling every panel the next time I get a day off & cleaning the shit out of her! Need new seats haha Dash was pretty good! Only 1 minor crack up top Oh yeah, almost forgot The PO never told me about the louvers lol. They were sitting in the trunk when the car got here & I loosely threw them on just to see if it'd even make even kinda start to like them.. meh.. they're not bad.. but not my taste. Daylight ran out & it was late so I called it a night I wrote down a quick list of shit that I know will need done(no particular order, even though they're numbered) & I also left these things I found while I was at work with the car for me to figure what to do with next time I'm there It's gonna be a long road, but I'm happy with the car. I have a lot planned for it & I can't wait to be at that point! Gotta work tomorrow so I'll be off here for a while!
  7. Love your style man! As soon as I saw "stripes", I was like "aww shit.". But it actually looks great! Keep up the good work
  8. I'm not the best with body work but I have some friends that are great & they'll help me out where I need it. I've already sourced a roof & hatch in good condition so I think I'm just going to replace both. I paid $500 for the Z, which I think was a steal. Thanks for the input man!
  9. I bought a 240Z! I still have to pick it up(6 hours from me & I work 24/7, just need to find time), but it's paid for. I haven't seen it in person, & it has a salvage title. It's a 73'. The guy was very honest about the car & very straight-forward with me. The car also doesn't seem to have anywhere close to as much rust as other 240Z's I was looking at. If it wasn't for all that(and the price lol), I wouldn't have pulled the trigger. I only have a few pics that were sent to me, so just bear with me Here's a pic of how the car was before the damage: Here's pics of after: Engine Bay: The PO told me some tree limbs fell on the roof, which gave the car the salvage title. However the rest of the car looks like it's in very decent shape, & IMO the damage on the roof is bad...but not absolutely terrible. I'd like to hear some of your opinions guys! What do you think? Worst comes to worst, I can part it out & find another Z. I would like to try & rebuild it though
  10. I've looked over the info you've provided, thanks for the resource & for the tips! Definitely going to help me a lot!
  11. Still don't have a Z yet, but I picked up this 1970 L24 with the 4-speed attached today for a steal! The guy told me it only had 69,000 miles on it. Judging from the condition it's in, I do believe him! (sorry for the slightly blurry pics) The guy had a few project together in his garage. Needless to say, he is doing it right!
  12. That's a deal you can't pass up! Haha the dog makes up for most of the guys asking price IMO
  13. Yeah I realize these cars are 40+ years old so rust is expected haha. I have no idea how the interior is, but I'll find out soon. I asked the guy for pics of the underside, frame rails, interior, rear/hatch, battery tray, strut towers, & the engine bay. Hopefully they'll be enough to figure out just how bad the cancer has gotten to it. I'm hoping the guy gets back to me soon, & as soon as I get some pics I'll post them up!
  14. Haha that sounds like a nuisance, but I'm sure everything else about the car outweighs that down side Anyways though, what do you think guys? Would you guys go ahead & buy this Z if you were me? If you guys think it's worth saving, I might go ahead & take it off the guy's hands. He only wants 1k for it. I'm not too concerned about most of the areas that seem rusty, except for the doglegs. To me that signifies that the rest of the underside of the car would have corroded quite a bit. I'm no Z expert though, so I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. Description Got this as a restoration project but really don't have the $ to get started. -Body is very straight, no cracks or dings in glass, trim is still shiny, motor and suspension is all intact and pretty straight. -Floor pans have some rust spots. -Car was parked in '86 and was running, 91,735 miles. -Car is complete except for fuel tank. Bumpers and grille not shown in pics are included. Pics
