  1. It really was a blast, i cant believe how well the Z held up and performed - i was on the ass of a '15 STi and E36 M3 in the twisties, and they both seemed to be capable drivers mid ohio really is a great track, ive driven mostly ones in central texas area (including COTA/F1), mid ohio is great, bit on the technical side, was surprised at how much more elevation change there was than it seems, and with some blind corners definitely takes a while to learn; really perfect for a car like this
  2. came across some more pics from track day Mid Ohio yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  3. Finally made it out for a cruise in Hocking Hills, got some good pictures in before winter hibernation. AWESOME roads out there, will be going back a lot in 2016. And first track day at Mid Ohio couple weeks ago.
  4. took the rat out for its first autox after spending 2 years in a garage with only a few fun runs. was mostly a shakedown before getting it on track before winter, but car did WONDERFULLY. suspension setup was on point, within a tweak of tire pressures and engine held out great ~ esp considering its an untouched longblock from 1978ish
  5. dang! been a while since i updated... i suppose im due. took it to first autox last weekend as a shakedown run and it went fantastic. car was set up beautifully, felt very well balanced. a little understeery, but mostly from driving/course mistakes and dropping front tire pressures actually still helped a lot. undecided at whether i still see sway bars as necessary as i thought i did. pesky rear toe in was likely keeping the rear a bit more planted than i wanted so will probably get after that first and go from there. engine did great. i accidentally started off the first pass colder than i had intended and was burning a good bit of oil, but had it at right temp for second and third and performed flawlessly without the james bond some screen. the carb setup is pretty dead below 3000 which i thought would be a problem but was not at all. really impressed at how well the car did for its first time out all around. friend showed up with a camera after the first lap and got some great burst shots through the big corner before the first big straight. stance/alignment/balance seems to look as good as it felt . same corner lap 3 . . . . also was super excited to find this bad boy in the pits and get to talk to the owner/builder. a factory five 33 hot rod was to be my build if i could have afforded it and i have a huge soft spot for daytona coupes. made a great day greater. .
  6. last cruise in november before starting winter tear down for 2015 track prep
  7. been in the garage about a year.. finally aligned and on the road. though still got 1 or 2 kinks to work out it seems 72 240z, rough on the outside (i love the patina'd rusted now matte maroon paint) but L28 and all new suspension/camberplates/balljoints/disc brakes everything on the underside. track time, 4.11 LSD and proper tires coming soon
  8. thanks hoss, i love the look of white/yellow tires, those are actually painted, hope they last, gonna have to find a better way of doing that
  9. BUT seats are what im really needing right now, i know what i want eventually but dont have the cash right now. i can get these for cheap (no rails)... and i think im going to do it because even when i switch i can put these in the OBS rallyx car. but that depends on what its going to take to get some rails that will work for each, also i need to figure out a way to recover them cheaply, i hate the blue... anybody know if i can just dye the material? maybe a camo seat cover.. seriously though i have some extra interior vinyl and would like to make some custom old school lookin seat covers but not sure its worth it for these seats.. also girlfriend isnt here with her sewing machine skills at the moment
  10. the car actually originally had a set of weber 45 DCOE 152s on it that were in rough shape.. i rebuilt em, found a broke off idle jet screw (had to drill out idle fuel port), venturis in BACKWARDS, and all kinds of ass backward shit. i also found in that process they were jetted way to big for my car.. and being 45s were definitely going to be way too much of a top end setup for what i have planned. if i had kept em i would have wanted to choke down, and then the amount of $$/rejetting just wasnt worth it. i traded them for some race prepped SU carbs in very good order, rebuilt by a long time 240z master around here Bob Smith SU carbs actually came off of this gem, #13 SVRA racecar, owned by Andy Doll, who has become a good friend and been unendingly helpful in all of this, huge thanks to him. this is also where the webers went.. right where they belong. first race is last weekend of june, unfortunately same as pikes peak so i need to make some decisions =\ the mrs even had a hand :D :D good woman. shes probably as excited as i am. up next... so a long time ago i picked up a LOM 55-12 power brute clutch LSD off ebay for cheap because they didnt know what car it was for. well, after doing the work i (think) i found that i can use it in a 4.11 200SX R180 (non turbo, non V6, picked it up but havent installed LSD) but have confirmed that it fits STi inner axles (so can use the wolf creek racing setup, once i have the money...) fjdksl old school momo race wheel, going to get wrapped in alcantara
  11. made what friends have dubbed the creepiest basement in the world into a paint booth. and then realized i basically made a murder chamber, even creepier. painted all suspension parts front/rear with zinc phosphate (95% zinc) and then POR-15 new wheel bearings all around devised a perfect rear wheel bearing press for these, 1 1/4 steel pipe and hammer new OEM balljoints, tie rods ends, polyurethane bushings everywhere rear spindle pins were a pain in the ass.. as expected, beefy special little tool helped a lot, but even it mushroomed before second one broke off, i ended up just grinding it apart front brakes rear rear brakes, guess i forgot to take a picture with them on.. chopped up a yoga mat to make fender covers hahaha
