#1552808 Potential 620

Posted by Charlie69 on Yesterday, 01:54 PM

I looked at the pictures again and found this.

The front vallnce is hammered and pushed back on the drivers side. it look like the drivers fender is buckled at the top of the wheel well.  I am guess that raising the hood will sho that the drivers side inner fender is buckled as well as the radiator support being pushed back.

I would look this truck over vary closely before buying it.

After seing what I just described and  if this is indeed the problems with this truck I would walk away.

At best your are looking at a 40 year old truck that appears to have had basic general maintenance, nothing major in repairs from outward appeerances.  You are looking at a project at best.

There is no telling if it will continue running fair or at all.  The seller being fague in his response to your questions is a complete turn off to me.

There is a difference in pricing and value from the West Coast to the East Coast.

This is not a king cab or a deluxe truck.  It is more desirable because of the front disk brakes but is less desirable because it has to pass smog in my oppinion.

It appears to have at some time during its history had a paint job.  I has a non matching interior and appears to have not had any major mechanical work done to it.

If I was buying it I would have a mechanic look it over and maybe even run a compression test on.

I would offer $2000 for it and walk if you can not get it for $2500 or less.

Remeber all 40 year old vehicles will need more than average repairs to keep them on the road if you intend on daily driving it.

Try keeping the headliner in your house in your warmest room for a few hours before installing.

#1552282 spark plug for rebello built L "2150" B motor

20 miles is not a long enough drive to see how the plugs are truely burning.  Put a set of new plugs in and drive it a while.  Becarefull if it is to lean you will burn something.  It sounds like in the beginning the carbs needing adjusting as it was burning rich and you inititially tried to correct the richness with changing plug heat range.  Start at square 1 with the plug heat range.  Too lean will ping!  Too rich will smell rich.  Uses your senses also.

Shawn was over the other day and worked on my king cab rear brakes for me.  Before he left we looked at the 86 720 AC compresor and bracket and he played with it and put a belt on it and found that the pulleys do line up.  So I will be running a 86 720 Z24 AC compressor and bracket on my 76 L20B in my 66 520!  LOL

Stand a 521 and a 520 fender on the door end and compare lengths.  Please take pictures notin length difference please.  Same with the 521 & 520 hoods.

Great finds congrats!  Take measurments before doing the frame swap.  The 521 is approximately 5" longer from the firewall to the radiator support frame.  If the 521 bed is good just swap the beds.

If you use an 81 B310 booster you will have access to many more master cylinders as the 310 booster is a horizantal master cylinder mount.  You will have to extend the brake rod for this booster.
On my 520.

This is the brake rod extension Mike Klotz made for me. Fit perfect, thank you Mike.

#1550102 turn signal mystery

Posted by Charlie69 on 07 March 2018 - 02:52 PM

side note i also changed a lot of the light on the int. and ext. and cluster of the car to LED bulbs i seen somewhere that if one bulb goes out on the car the turn signals wont blink. could LEDs have something to do with the circuit not working correctly?

You did not say what bulbs are changed to LED.

Did you change dash turn indicator bulbs to LED?

Did you change rear turn bulbs to LED?

Did the front turn signals ever flash after fixing the switch?

It is best to do 1 thing at a time with electrical, makes trouble shooting a lot easier when something goes wrong.

I went to visit Jan today at the VW wrecking yard.  I was talking with him about me ordering a Optima group 25 battery tray and he said try this and pulled off the shelft a new unused Optima batterry tray.

Not sure I like it but I will hold on to it until I get the Optima battery and see how it fits and try different placements.

This is the battery tray I was thinking of ordering.

Did not get to the 520 butt Shawn came over this morning and we threw some tires and rims that AZHitman gave me a while back in the back of my King Cab 720 and went down to the tire place and had them dismount 2 tires, mount those 2 tires on some 78/79 620 wheels I have and balance them and then put them on the front of my King Cab.  Shawn paid $30 dollars and we headed to The Wittmann auto wrecking yard to get a pair of 78 620 upper control arms.  Shawn also scored a set of early really loud Cadillac El Dorado horns.  Those will get the point across.

Also picked up a used oxygen sensor for my King Cab.

We got back home about 6:00 pm and unloaded and Shawn went to work installing an alarm system in his 521.

Getting ready to barbecue some hot dogs and make some Kraft cheese & macaroni to feed Shawn's family and us.  When the girls finish there homework then it will be a Netflix kids night.

I should be able to get some sleep to night, fingers crossed.

It has been a great day to be alive!!!
