  1. More Details: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/pt11252000.php Felt it down in Bellevue WA. Sitting on the 10th floor of a 20 story building and it was swaying pretty good. I remember the Nisqually quake. I was working at a country club and was looking out over the practice putting green. With the short cut grass you could actually see the ground rolling in a wave.

  7. Here is the video of the 2 510s at the Thunder Drift event down at Thunder Hill. Obviously 510's can drift. At a minimum you need a clutch type LSD or welded diff. Preferably not a VLSD as they suck for drifting and wear out quickly but anything is better than open. The biggest thing that makes 510s hard to drift is the steering geometry. The 240sx practically drifts itself because the stock steering has a lot of caster and it will auto steer back to center very easily and quickly. The 510 has very little caster and low KPI angle so you have to do a bit more work to transition from lock to lock. The 2 biggest areas after the LSD would be front end alignment/geometry and good suspension. Dial in a lot more caster and camber in the front. For proven steering swap in an AE86 rack and pinion and spindles. You'll also want to mess with wheel offsets and fender well clearances so you can get maximum steering angle as the 510 has some pretty shallow steering angle and interference on the foot well and swaybar / TC rod out of the box. To get more steering angle fine a shorter ball joint steering link out of the Datusn cross pollination parts bin. Shorter as in less distance between the center of the ball joint and tie rod ball joint. The rear semi-trailing arm suspensions actually work quite well for drifting. The aggressive toe curves and tendency to squat can create some good bite and traction while drifting. Set up rear toe to gain negative toe in as it compresses and get some decently stiff suspension (but not too stiff - still need to absorb the bumps on rough tracks to keep you from spinning out) to keep it from transferring too much weight to the back and it will work really well. E30's drift really well with semi-trailing arms. You might also think about setting up an e brake that you can use a hand lever to easily actuate. An e brake is not necessary to drift but it sure helps to adjust line and speed, especially during tandem. Due to their short wheelbase they will always be more difficult to drift however if you can drift a 510 well you'll be able to drift anything. Also - Drifting is very hard on cars. Since Datsuns are 30+ years old unless you like playing Russian Roulette replace every bushing, bearing, ball joint, and brake component with new items to ensure you don't have a failure that will total your car and possibly injure you or some one else.
  8. I vote for the museum as well but I can understand Art wanting some one who will drive it and take it to shows. I have a '71 1 owner orange MT 2 door that I've kept stock and original as well but it's not in nearly as good of shape. I remember at the 2nd to last Shasta coming down from the ski area Art was in front of my party of 4 510s that were all modded except for my stock one. I drive my car hard (cruising at 4.5K doing 75mph on the interstate with the stock 4 speed and always shifting at redline) and enjoy pushing the limits of the stock setup. I thought that Art would be dog slow taking it easy and we'd be stuck behind him but that guy was hauling ass! I was having a hard time keeping up with him and none of the modded cars even needed to pass him because his pace was so fast! My respect and admiration of the guy went up 100% after that drive down the mountain. I hope I'm still pushing it when I'm that old!
  9. Sweet re-post. Way to search after posting! LOL.
  10. Bored on a Friday night and don't know what to do? Feel like renting a movie? Don't know what to add to your Netflix queue? I give you IMCDb: http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=datsun+&model=510 36 movies with a Datsun 510 in it so far. Find movies that your car of choice was in. Sweet.
  11. Jim Froula's Bluebird Coupe Rebello built L16 is the best L series I've ever seen. Here are some of my underexposed pictures that don't do it justice. More work by Froula's shop Racecraft can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/racecraft/
  12. Check out this company: http://www.vintageconnections.com/ They sell electrical connectors that match vintage Japanese motorcycle and cars. If you need to repair or upgrade your harness but want to keep it OG looking this is a good option. For a great example check out the thread I saw this on (VQ35 in S30 swap on HybridZ)
  13. LOL - Only in a place like Snohomish would someone trade a gun for a truck! I have a P95 and they are nothing special (dime a dozen) so go for it!
  14. I love the project! I do have a question: You mentioned the monster truck would be lowered by 3" From the pictures is seems that you determined the front and rear subframe heights based on engine and driveline height relative to the transmission tunnel and not having to cut too much frame to locate the Miata subframes. If you lower it 3" won't you run into the roll center and bump steer issues common with lowered street cars? Would it have been better for a track toy to chop some more sheet metal and frame to allow the subframes to sit higher to preserve factory geometry and wheel travel while lowering the static ride height to a level expected of a track car? Since you obviously know how to set up a Miata for the track I'm sure you have it worked out already. I look forward to seeing how the truck looks and goes lowered!
  15. Check out this excellent Wiki with tons of info and how-to's for the R31 http://wiki.r31skylineclub.com/ Highlights include: R31 series specifications and history S13 Suspension Conversion Lots of RB Info Spool install instructions for the BorgWarner 78 - 28spline diff (Could this apply to some solid axle US Datsuns?) A comprehensive links directory Cool!
