National Guard paid millions to NFL teams for in-game soldier salutes
May 11, 2015

During timeouts at home games, the New York Jets air a Hometown Heroes segment in which a U.S. soldier or two are shown on the Jumbotron and everyone thanks them for their service. The soldiers and three friends get seats in the Coaches Club. It’s a nice salute.

It’s also funded by U.S. taxpayers.

In news that was first reported Tuesday by Herb Jackson of the Bergen Record and expanded upon by Christopher Baxter and Jonathan D. Salant of New Jersey Advance Media, the Department of Defense paid 14 NFL teams $5.4 million from 2011 to 2014 for salutes like the Hometown Heroes segment and other advertising at professional football games. All but $100,000 of that money came from the National Guard.

"Your Tax Dollars At Work". Couldn't this have been better spent

Now swap the work NASCAR in there. I wouldn't cross the street to watch NASCAR today. How great and exciting it used to be in the '60s/'70s when I watched it on Wild World Of Sports and even earlier in the 50s. Today it's all about boring mediocrity, red neck bar-b-q and fireworks??? For what? 30 cars that are all withing 0.5 seconds of each other?  Chevs, Dodge and Fords that all have the same engines in them? WTF??? Only a red neck born after 1970 could get excited about this.

But they do have different stickers on them,so that you

can tell what brand of car they're supposed to be.

California pledges $30 million for Dreamers to pay for college, legal help

California leaders took another step to support “Dreamers” on Tuesday by pledging $30 million for legal services and financial aid to help undocumented young people threatened with deportation by the Trump administration.

Gov. Jerry Brown, State Sen. President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) agreed to spend an additional $20 million on immigration legal services and $10 million on college financial aid for young people in California protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Morning Report: It Just Got Easier to Raise Taxes in California

It just got a lot easier to raise taxes in California.

Now, if a group of citizens gather signatures to put a tax increase on the ballot for a specific purpose – something like building a football stadium, a convention center, or a bunch of low-income housing – it will only require approval of a simple majority of voters.

That means leaders have a significantly easier path to raise taxes, if they let private groups write the measure and pay for the signature-gathering effort.

The shift is the result of a ruling from the California Supreme Court released Monday. Scott Lewis broke down what the shift means for San Diego, where officials have a large and growing wish list for new stuff, and now a much easier way to pay for it.

I'm so sick of the "leaders" in this state that ignore/overturn what the

majority of the voters voted for.

They're supposed to be working for us,& what's best for our state,

no matter which party they represent.

I noticed that students, who are California (legal) citizens,
don't get the same assistance.

On the other hand,we have homeless guys,& other people,

bringing their dogs into grocery stores here. They are clearly NOT

"Service Animals",but you can't legally say anything to them, except

ask them what service their animal provides them with.

Colin Kaepernick, unsigned, wins NFL Players Association MVP

The out-of-work quarterback was honored by the NFL Players Association for his philanthropy and grassroots activism

Colin Kaepernick is still not on an NFL roster, but that isn't stopping the NFL Players Association from recognizing him for his community engagement. Friday, the unsigned quarterback was awarded the Week 1 NFLPA Community MVP for his philanthropy and grassroots activism in support of marginalized communities.

On September 7, the first official day of the NFL season, Kaepernick announced a $100,000 donation to be split evenly between four charities: DREAM, which aids after-school programs for New York City youth; Coalition for the Homeless; The Gathering for Justice’s War on Children, which is a new program that will fight against child incarceration; and United We Dream, which focuses on immigrant youth. Days later, Kaepernick hosted a Back to School Backpack Giveaway at the Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York.

Last weekend watched all of an hour of NFL football, no preseason, nothing this weekend. Don't really miss it.

I see the problem is going to get much worse before the front office steps in to make changes.

NFL players now taking their protests onto the field

Let me guess - they don't donate most of their salary & time to help make things better.

To me,they're just a bunch of spoiled brats, who want attention.
