  1. Hey guys - been awhile since I've needed to outright ask a question as usually the search option does it for me - I'm just wondering what are the maximum wheel/tire sizes I'll be able to fit on a stock 73 610 4 door. The rims I have right now are stock, but dented and just look like garbage, so it's about time I find some new ones (well, new to me anyway). I'm just curious what are some bigger sizes that will fit with little or preferably zero modifications to control arms or having to roll over lips or anything. Right now the tires are so small that the car is literally dangerous to drive at highway speeds when it's really windy. I feel like I'm a gust of wind away from going into the ditch, plus it just looks so silly riding on tires that are barely wider than a peddle bike, lol... Also, I'm curious if anyone has any ideas of some wheels I might be able to pull off vehicles in a junk yard that might fit that'll give it a decent look as I don't really want to purchase brand new ones because it doesn't make much sense having brand new flashy rims on a car that still needs a sh*t ton of body work, lol. So any help would be greatly appreciated - any and all opinions welcome on what wheels you think would look good and would fit. I'm not even entirely sure what the bolt pattern is on these cars so I'm looking for a complete education on this topic!! Thanks for having patience with me, I know I'm a total noob, haha... take care all! PS: As I was just creeping, for example a user named "Supra510" not only has an amazing example of everything I want my car to one day be, he's running HUGE wheels/tires. Just wondering how something like that is possible because it doesn't seem like those should EVER fit, haha...
  2. http://s1298.beta.photobucket.com/user/Onceler11/media/VID-20130109-00004_zpscf92a2e2.mp4.html http://s1298.beta.photobucket.com/user/Onceler11/media/VID-20130109-00003_zpsc9fda230.mp4.html Just used direct links to photobucket for the vids... hopefully that works...
  3. So hopefully this works... I am uploading a couple of videos, although the lighting it terrible, its mainly just so that everyone can hear my engine, as it might help to figure out whats wrong. Also, more pictures as Hainz requested pics of the coil area. Turns out there is an L18 in my car... according to the badging anyway, so those pics have been posted too... maybe I'm reading it wrong? But in two different spots on the frame it mentions the car having an L18, so go figure... didnt realize it was an option in 73 610's... So I did what Mike had suggested... took the front plate off the carb, cleaned the piss out of it as it was actually quite dirty... almost looked like really fine wet sand... but it wasnt near the two holes I sprayed out with carb cleaner. Odd thing is, it's actually idling smoother now, and it started perfect after sitting for almost 24 hours... so I'm not goign to say it was a complete waste of time as it introduced me to carb maintenence for the first time, and it was actually pretty fun to do... however as I took it around for a spin, the same problem persisted... low rpm bucks and sputters with complete momentary loss of power as I'm trying to accelerate... :( The first pic is the top of the carb after the car was run for awhile... so the choke is wide open... it seems that even when its cold, its stuck half open... I have no clue how to adjust that. Or if its an issue? Anyway... help! Thanks in advance, advice has been fantastic so far. *edit* trying to figure out how to get the vids linked...
  4. Just reading mikes process again before I head out to the garage, but no, the engine was dead cold... hasnt started since I put it in the garage last night, going on 20 hrs shut off now.. Seeing as I've never worked on a carb, I didnt have any carb cleaner and had to go pick some up, haha... Such a noob...
  5. Thanks for the replies so far... I havent had more than about a half hour to really look into anything, but I pulled it apart with what time I had (essentially just the air cleaner) and snapped these pics to show you guys what I'm looking at. Now I don't have a lot of experience with carbs as every vehicle I've owned since my very first one over a decade ago as been EFI, but I'm only assuming that the burnt look on the primary side (what I'm guessing is the primary based on the info I'm getting anyway) shouldnt be like this?? Checked all the vacuum lines using a wicked guide another member had posted (I apologize for not remembering who you are) and they're in surprisingly good shape... the only other issue I can find is that the distributor cap seems to be a bit loose, nothing major, but it wiggles a bit, and also the wire running from the coil to the distributor needs to be replaced... So thoughts?? Thanks again guys... can't thank you enough already.
  6. So I brought the 610 to its new home today, so I'm extremely happy about that. Seems to be running okay, once it got up to speed on the highway I was easily doing 65-70mph with no issues, engine sounded great... Once I got back into town however, the L16 started showing a bit of its age I think... Just curious what a first guess on this might be... I don't have any sound bytes or vids unfortunately, because I can only get the engine to do this when the car is actually in motion, but whats happening is in low rpm's, when starting from a dead stop, or if I'm not revving the piss out of every gear before switching, the car is bucking a little almost like someone trying to drive a standard that doesn't know how to drive one (Before the jokes start, I'm owned and driven plenty of sticks)... other than that, while just casually accelerating the car is really bogged down, almost as if its flooding itself, it even had a brief almost backfire from the engine at one point where power was completely lost... It hasn't stalled, and can sit there and idle without any issues.. but as soon as a load is put on the engine it starts with this problem... Just really concerned she's going to stall on me in the middle of an intersection or something as I'm beginning to accelerate. Again, once the rpm's increase to say 3 grand or higher (I dont have a tach and this is my first L-series so I'm not too familiar with how they sound at higher rpm's) it seems to run fine.. sounds healthy, pulls as well as the 65 or whatever HP it has will do... so I'm just trying to run through my head what this could be before I start pulling stuff apart. It has to get inspected for insurance purposes, so if its doing this during the mechanics drive of the old girl, I don't want him to start outlandishly quoting me "could possibly be's". Thanks in advance... Oh.. its a 73 610, 4spd, original L16 with virtually all original parts... 98k miles... clutch isn't the strongest, but it's not in need of replacement yet if I were to guess... Thanks again!
  7. Just stumbled onto this for the first time... If only it wasn't winter... Where I live has a MASSIVE ricer culture. All of them have pride in their vehicles for whatever reason, and about 90% of them get pulled off the road once the snow hits. Which is weird cause we don't use salt... go figure. It's downright embarassing sometimes knowing that someone may mistakingly look at your modified ride and assume you're "one of them". But come spring, I very much look forward to showing you the quality in my town. lol...
  8. Runs seemingly solid. Only issue is the guy is a "self proclaimed" mechanic, but from the looks of all his projects he had sitting around I would hope he knows a little about what he's doing. Spruced up the front end suspension with some parts to keep it as close to stock as possible. Not sure what "front end" meant to this guy, but he mentioned it'll need a wheel alignment. I was unable to test drive it as there isnt any insurance on it atm. BUT! I started it up, ran through the gears, played with the clutch a bit, e-brake works fine, brakes didnt squeak when I let it slowly roll down an inclined driveway. So I'm hoping that it runs well, yes. The seller is very confident it will make the short 35 mile or so jaunt from where its being sold to where I live without any issues other than perhaps the aforementioned wheel alignment issue. Floors are solid, yes... when I opened the trunk I feared the worst, but there is only a slight showing of beginning stages of rust on the drivers side area near the tail lights... I was actually amazed at how much trunk space there was! It's like a whole other engine bay almost. I did NOT know about that area under the rear window though, so I'll have to have another look. 100% appreciate the feedback... seems like this is a fantastic forum and hopefully I'll be able to contribute something in the future. I went ahead and finalized the deal with the guy... I really think I'd be silly not too, not when I see the amazing vehicles these things have the potential to be. Especially when I already love the damn thing how it sits now! lol. Pick it up next week sometime. Oh happy day!!
  9. I've got him down to $400 bucks, and my xbox 360 system/games. (havent played it in ages anyway) ha! Who knew the guy was a gamer? Got a rough insurance quote... only will cost me $31 per month. I spend more than that on lottery tickets every month. I guess all I need to know now from those of you that use these things as a daily driver is this - am I making a HUGE mistake relying on this beast? Or will my leap of faith be worth it in the long run?? I'm no stranger to modifying/restoring cars, well, mechanically anyway... bodywork has never been my Forte... I've own a wide variety of modified vehicles from a DC powerplanted 87 Integra, 2 seperate 88 mustangs (one almost stock, the other I dumped about $15k into), and a 1980 Pontiac Sunbird back in the day that was my first toy... so i mean if the thing breaks down I won't be heartbroken... I guess I'm hoping someone will just slap me in the face and tell me I'd be an idiot to pass this up. They're so rare up here it's silly... But thanks to you all for your feedback so far...
  10. So thats all of them... got easier with photobucket once I knew the quirks surrounding the use of Flash player making simple things more complicated then they should be. But anyway.... So thats the car. It's a bit more than a case of beer, he's asking less than $1000 CAD. I would agree with the parts car comment if I actually owned on already, lol, but this would be my first, and it would subsequently be my ONLY car on the road in about 3 weeks time... so? Opinions!!? Thoughts?? Thanks in advance, had a hell of a response so far.
  11. For the record, I hate photobucket... having issues, apparently.. worked for 1... now I'm struggling with life I guess. *eye roll*
  12. Hi there All - I'm new to the forums, so I apologize to any Mod's that may need to move this thread around. I'm just curious if I can get your guys' opinion on a vehicle I have at my disposal. It's being sold up here in Alberta, canada (dont make fun of me, haha) for cheap... like I'm talking its almost down to a case of beer cheap. I have always loved these cars, and would love to restore one - but it'll also be my daily driver so it'll be a long-term project. The vehicles VIN is PL610-050202 - for any of you that are able to retrieve some insight using that number. Its a 73 610 Sedan, all original with the exception of OEM parts used to help keep it on the road. The thing fires up faster than my 05 maxima, idles great, clutch seems responsive, no massive noises in the tranny while sitting stationary that I could hear anyway. Isn't leaking anything as it's sat in a driveway for a few weeks now and there is nothing on the ground. Engine itself has some oil on it, and it appears as though it was a leaky valvecover or something at some point. Looks like very old oil. Doesn't blow blue smoke even on start up. It's currently not insured so we couldn't actually take it for a test run anywhere. Downsides, as you'll notice in the pictures, is that it DOES suffer from quite a bit of rust. It seems like one of the few owners the car has had (98k original miles), has cut out the rust, and then blindly tac welded on a piece of sheet metal to cover the hole. There is also a bit of bondo in the odd place like the front passenger fender where more rust was poorly addressed. All things considered though, all the lights work, heat works fine, weather stripping in wonderful condition, and the interior is in absolutely amazing shape given the age. Barely even has drivers side damage to what I only assume is a plastic/leather-ette material. Even the wiper fluid motor works, ha! Just want an opinion on whether or not I should snatch this up at the cost of next to nothing (minus the grief from the significant other, that is).. This is LITERALLY the first one I have seen for sale in my general vacinity, and until today I have never actually seen a 610 in person. Sad, I know... but I've always loved em. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, and don't worry about hurting my feelings. If you think its not even worth starting a project from, please be candid. Thanks very much!! Post Scriptum - as soon as I figure out how to attach pictures, I have about a half dozen or so to share! lol, sigh.
