  1. Lol, pretty good point. Problem with having more than one project is that I don't have a garage to begin with. Nice thing about the 521 is that it's a running and driving project. Drive it to the shop at work, work on it, then drive it home. But, eventually, I could see myself owning several Datsuns. Why stop at one?
  2. The aftermarket/parts availability is what drew me towards the Z all of a sudden. And the fact that it's a lot quicker, but that could be solved with a simple  motor swap into the 521. (Z24/KA24  ) I think I could find a lot more uses out of the truck, and it would be a lot more fun trying to make the truck do what the Z can already. I think that's 95% of all projects, the actual project. Then 5% doing what it was made to do lol. Bunch of guys were giving me shit about it today, because they could all afford BRAND NEW 2013 V6 MOOSTANGS. Wooptydoo for them, lol. Yes, I will be doing that in the morning. Probably will be cheaper for the truck, and the truck can be tagged as an antique a lot easier, too. Thank you. I extremely appreciate this feedback. B)
  3. Well, the time has come to pose a question to all of you guys (anyone actually looking at this thread). I am at a crossroads - Should I get this beat up 521, lower it, and put around. OR, get a Z, and have a lowered car that is peppier, and more fun to drive? http://topeka.craigslist.org/cto/3479594678.html I'm only 20, and I think the 280ZX would fit my "personality" a little bit better. Being young, wild, and a little reckless. What do you guys think? Lots more aftermarket for the Z, but the 521 has that minitruck/rat style to it. Thanks!
  4. There was an error. He didn't specify the model he had before I saw, just said 70's datsun. Yes, I would love to keep everything he has for spares, but it does not look like it will happen. He's wanting way too much than I can afford for the rest of stuff. Going to throw in some stuff with the truck alone, like a fender, driver's door, heater core/misc heater stuff, spare engine doo-dads, etc. So, I think I will be able to get by with that.
  5. He's got lots of extra's for this truck: Whole other parts truck, with another front end. Front green fenders and hood for it. Two extra motors that are untouched, two extra transmissions, and a third motor from Japan that's the L18. Guy runs a small used-tire business, so he's willing to throw in an extra set too. :w00t: Tons of stuff with this truck. More OICS! Rebuilt L18. Beat to crap interior. But, everything is fixable. What he did with his roof, pretty cool looking magnets. The last picture for now, will be more soon; after I buy it lol. The shift was extremely loose. In gear, it would sway about 3 to 4 inches from side to side. But, it's a great starting canvas for, what I believe, would be a really cool build.
  6. Lots of OICS. It was about 30-35 degrees when we went and looked at it, but the humidity made it feel a bit more comfortable. So, he threw me the keys, and I pumped the pedal a few times; BLAMMO. Fired right up and started to idle great. This should be a very fun build. Front end suffered some damage, but it's an old work truck, it's bound to happen. Bit crappy picture, BUT, the motor was extremely dry. I was very surprised. B) Cool washer bag. Paint chipping away and the old turquoise showing throw there on the top. I believe the truck's been painted about 3 or 4 times. Passenger side frame.
  7. Hi, this is my second topic, so please be easy on me. :geek: I've known about this truck for a few months, and the gentle recently told me it was for sale. Went to today to go check it. Mind you, I won't be buying this until tax returns, but I had to tell you guys ASAP. Lol. Here's the old thread: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/50516-soon-to-be-new-datsun-owner-midwest/ It is a '72 521 I believe, with an L16. He also has another L18 in his garage for it. Onto the "OICS"! Bed is pretty rough, but the entire truck is too. Not TOO much rust. The ol' work horse. Some of the photos are pretty redundant, but I wanted to make sure to get lots of OICS for you guys. More to come.
  8. Very good point, probably getting ahead of myself. I'm going to try to work out a deal to get both the trucks, and try to get it parted out asap and let him sell the rest of that parts truck. I'm in an apartment, and we only have small 1 car garages available, so storage would be iffy. Unless I can store it at my father's place, then I'd be able to keep it all. My intention with the other motor/trans would be to sell it, and try to save up for a KA24 swap. I have very big plans for this truck, on a very small budget. I was a mechanic for a few months, but I now currently sell parts. I'm working on becoming a mechanic again, getting all the Ford tests done. So, getting it into the shop would be a piece of cake. That's where a lot of the work would be done. Thanks for the input, DanielC! I'm really appreciating the feedback I'm getting, really enjoy the community here! Annnd, I have found my answer. Thank you, search bar!
  9. Yes, I'm hoping to work out a pretty good deal with him. If I could get the stuff I aforementioned, I would love to have spent less than $1000 dollars on it, leaving my tax return to get it up to par. I was really worried about not being able to find parts for it, seeing as there is hardly no Datsuns here, let alone 620's. Our scrapyards are slowly going away aswell. But, with this parts truck he has, I feel much more confident in this purchase. And if I can't replace it/fix it, I'll just remake it or find a suitable replacement from a Ford or Nissan. I appreciate your input, too. Still using the hell out of the search bar in how to lower it. I read the write up on lowering it, and the torsion bars. I'm not TOO sure on that all works. If I lower the rear end 3", with blocks, should I cut the springs/replace with shorter ones in the front? Thanks!
  10. Hi everyone, my name's Burton, and I've been lurking on this forum for about 6 months. I work at a Ford dealership here in Kansas, and every once in awhile a man comes to pick up our used tires. He drives an older, probably late 70's, 620. From what I can tell, anyway. He came up to me the other day and told me he was finally interested in selling it. He has a hard time speaking english, from India I belive, and tried telling me he has 3 other motors, 3 other 4 or 5 speeds, and an entire other parts truck to go with it. I'm thinking about offering him cash for running truck, one motor/trans, and parts off of other truck. I've seen him hauling probably half a ton of tires in this little old truck, way over the cab. Said the motor was a "Japanese import rebuild" or somethingarather. Long story short, going to look at it tomorrow and talk to him about a price. What are things to look at? I know it's going to be beat up, it was just a work truck. Rusty rockers? Rusty floors? Cab mounts? It's great to meet you guys, and I PROMISE I will have pictures for you guys when I go and look at it. Lots of them. Thanks for the help! (Sorry if this is in the wrong section. :S)
