  1. I raced off road vehicle's you can't imagine how tough that is at speed but i get what your saying.
  2. This definitely won't be a fun car in the rain to drive and will be mostly shows and track days.
  3. RAIN X IS A GOOD PRODUCT IF YOU HAVEN'T USED IT ( HIGHLY SUGGEST IT EVEN WITH WIPERS) AND WOULD HAVE TO BE CRAZY DOWNPOUR TO BE ANY ISSUE IN WHICH THE STOCK WIPERS WOULD HAVE AN ISSUE ANYWAY . I'M OK WITH THE RISK. I'M SURE THERE ARE OTHER DOT ISSUES THAT WOULD BE FOUND IF WANTED BESIDE WIPERS MISSING BUT THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP.
  4. I have been very busy with life/work but did get a few things done. I worked on engine compartment and trimmed out areas on firewall so a nice straight patch panel can be made for repair. I am removing the whole windshield wiper mechanism in the process based on the fact I don't plan on driving it in the rain and have had good success with properly installed rainx on other cars for the pop up rain storm. I did get the whole engine compartment primed with pare metal etching style primer. I also stripped the motor down to a short block and will be finishing to strip it down to bare block for cleaning over Christmas work break. I scaled the car as it sits and is a little over 1700lbs and will be updating as I add parts and fab work. Hopefully add more pics and updates later in December.
  5. So far I haven't seen one installed system front or rear on a datsun 510 and really want to hear feedback prior to purchase if possible. Looks awesome and no problems stand out I can see but I've been the guinea pig before on new parts and it can have some growing pains that come with it. If Apex put one on a car with pics and deatail write up I'm sure they would sell a lot more of them.
  6. I thought the weights worked out that way as well. I will not have power steering ofr ac only an alternator is needed . Like I said before I'm conscious about the weight and will scale car and have moved things around to help for nsure since I do not want to mess up the handling of the car. I'm going to stick with IFS and a r200 with 930 cv's and custom axles. I think the week link will be the stub axle and not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger on a billet one or change the hub to something else. I had great success with 930 cv's on my offroad car with 550 hp and massive abuse so they should hang. I did think about a straight axle though.
  7. I agree with you on this one and mine won't be quite as extreme and more of a engine trans conversion with a race car feel. I built a baja bug before that was like frys 510 and was just a body on a tube frame and as extreme as you get with ls power. This car will not be as extreme.
  8. I will and was ready for the haters or negativity it's ok . i'm doing it know matter what and I'm sure some people here will have good and helpful opinions about it once I het the ball rolling. Thanks for the input I love the way you think. I really have no time for negative people it's a waste of time.
  9. I will be trying to post more pictures of the car this weekend to show were I'm at now and getting ready to move forward. I just sold my t5 trans that I was going to be using but think it's on the edge to hold even stock ls power and now on the search for a tko500 or tko 600 trans.
  10. aluminum v8 is 500 with power steering pum and ac and all factory brackets i was going by just complete engine closer to 410 to 420 and maybe the 350 number for sr20det is just engine and the 400 was complete? regardless they are pretty close in weight. agreed the trans will be heavier to handle the extra power. I'm estimating my car complete to weigh 2500 to 2600 which in the car world is very light but in the datsun 510 world is heavy but I think the extra horsepower will make up the difference and some.
  11. Always loved 510's that why I've owned it since 1991 and loved the handling of them but also like going fast and they are way to u underpowered for my taste. Always liked the linear power of a nice v8 unlike the leaky power of a turbo 4 cylinder anything. To top it off ls power is cheap and light. The sr20det weighs the same as a all aluminum 5.3 and way easier and cheaper to make power in the ls power plant. I will be scaling car to keep the 50/50 weight distribution 510 is known for. I understand if it's not everyone's cup off tea.
  12. This is Marcus Fry's v8 510 that is pretty damn trick and a proven very fast good handling car. A bit more race car than what I'm going for but same theme. https://www.google.com/search?q=mario+datsun+510+v8&oq=mario+datsun+510+v8&aqs=chrome..69i57j33i299l2.9585j1j8&client=tablet-android-samsung&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=p1wCK2d1KLHrsM
  13. I believe the one they used was a later 350 chevy with aluminum heads based on the 90s lt1 motor so yes around 530 and the all aluminum ls based motor is right at 410 to 430 ( depending on accessories ) so i'm surprised they didn't go that route. I think the l16 is about 260 so 140 pounds more.
  14. HE SET MOTOR BACK REALLY FAR AND I THIONK SOME OF IT WAS BECAUSE HE USED A IRON BLOCK MOTOR NOT ALUMINUM. i ADDED SOME WEIGHT WITH STEREO TO REAR OF CAR TO HELP OFF SET THE WEIGHT AND NOT HAVE TO MOVE BACK SO FAR ONLY 6" AND MOFIFYING FOOT WELL AREA NOT TO HAVE AS MUCH ROOM AS POSSIBLE. NOT A FAN OF HIS WHEELS EITHER AND MINE ARE GOING TO CHANGE TOO I GOT THE WHEELS ON MY CAR IN THE MID 90S AND IT SHOWS PLUS I'M CHANGING WIDTHS.
