I was reading about the chicken war, and the corrisponding chicken tax, and I am sure it had a lot of affect on Datsuns. and, no, I am not kidding. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax

I would like to find an actual truck, or snow tire, that is the right size for the original rims.

There was a beautiful silver NL320 sold on ebay a year or two ago in Phoenix, that had an A15 with air conditioner installed. They did a beautiful job. I plan on putting one into one of my NL320s, the problem I had was the fact that the 210 5 speed tranny is now worth 500 to 700 dollars due to it's use as the rivergate MG tranny. I could find A15s all over the place, but the tranny was gone, and I really wanted a 5 speed. I had a 1980 210 back in my college days, had a blast with it, and consider that engine and tranny to be very mechanically sound.

you get more done in a month or so than I get done in 5 years. of course, not only did we get a foot of snow, but 15 degrees below zero really puts the crimp in working in the unheated garage. I found that my Datsun's always blew a head gasket if you ran them at 15 or 20 below, so I wouldn't even dream of having one in the winter around here now. My 1985 4X4 almost got me froze to death one winter because of that. having to hang your head out the window while being towed with a chain down the highway, and you cannot defrost your window in that kind of cold is a thing for young, and dumb, man. At about 25 below, things break, like vinyl seats and whole interior panels that you didn't realize could break in half like that.

I melted the face shield into a puddle once in a burn building. that bunker gear can really take the heat.

That is one good thing about living in a Minnesota winter, the crime really drops when it gets cold outside. Low-life riff-raff basically get off the street in the cold, and people just generally don't want to find out if your old truck has a bad battery by trying to steal it. Besides, no one here even knows what a Datsun is, anyway.
