I repositioned it with a bent screwdriver> works perfect now! B) shifter now has control.

right on, I figured it out. you can actually kinda get to it if you remove the reverse check switch cylinder then reach in with a bent screwdriver. thanks for your reply

alright, I have a early 80s 5spd. took it apart, it went back together o.k. but is stuck in reverse while it should be in neutral. Other gears just stall motor without rocking forwars or rearward. Any ideas? :confused:

The diesels go for good bucks down here in so cal. Its at least .25 cents cheaper than the cheapest gas right now. And running good,a 720 could pull upper 30 mpgs. Not bad. parts are a bastard (transmission) I am going to get a 521 next however for beautys sake. I have my eye on a fairly clean one. I love your truck!

So my key was stuck in the ignition, I removed the whole little lock deal from the column then went to get the actual tumbler out. Tell me if this was right. Usually on other cars i have worked on you turn the key to a position where you can push a little pin, then remove the tumbler with the key. That did not work on my 82 720. maybe because the key would not turn to the start position. Anyways i drilled the small pin down about 1/8 and was able to remove the cylinder. My question is if I buy a new lock cylinder , do they include a new pin? Are datsun pins even spring loaded? I never saw one when I took it apart.

I dont think I would mess with your dash to much. Maybe just make a cover for it that lays over the top. That will add the black color you want plus protect it from the sun. use little pieces of velcro or such to keep it still.
