  1. k check thank you so i will leave my guides in and just lapp if possible, I was just wanting them out of the way, nothing to do with wear or damage
  2. k thank you i worked around them and they have little play with valve in. Sounds like money to me and if i have any it could be spent elsewhere. lol I soak up any knowledge i can and thank you for your post.
  3. Oh ya i was confused about the induction. It has z24i writen on air cleaner previous owner told me it had electronic carb. It looks like a carb with injectors in it. So i don't know what that makes it carb or throttle body? The injectors were 750 bucks each, through lordco or Canadain tire(although 175 bucks for same injector(same part number off a pathfinder or 300z) but i found the auto truck and used that set up on it. Works fine except idle is like its on choke till engine is warm. Not the worst thing, acually be better for winter in my eyes anyway.
  4. You are the man, thank you. Its a beauty day today up here in vic. Think i'll start on a mad max bumper lol
  5. thank you everyone for the help. To clear things up yes i want to keep my 5 speed trans, and take my z24i out to put in a z24i engine which had an auto matic trans on it. Then i can always have a rebuilt engine on the side lines. And with 440 000kms I would suspect I'm not getting many more years out of it. lol its pretty bagged. No want to change to a different engine no matter if its better or not, just keep the same configeration as it came with (z24i and 5 speed ) and hopefully modify and tune alittle more the back up engine each time i have to swap. Maybe when i am seventy i'll be up to 200 horse power lol. I'm hoping for ten to twenty more horse power per engine swap. Also any performance tips would be nice. I'm hoping to have headers, better exhaust, ported head this time round. I have ported the head( mostly just cleaning up alittle opened up and straighter air path just where port and chamber meet) Was going to look at intake for a once over( its not going to help much from the quick look i did on it. The headers are tubular ones off a vauxhall i plan to try to use(free) but they'll be some cutting and bending work involved. There much lighter! I have time and not much money. The exhaust is yet to be thought about possibly but it will be minus cat and have performance muffer(most likey old and free)from whom ever i can. Hey dad i'll take your old race exhaust too I thought it was a package deal with headers! lol But if cheap mods are possible or just time on my end, i would like direction or advice to help me along. I thank all who take the time to post , or those who get a giggle from this project. I understand tuning more than just in general being a mechanic. Yes i'm totally backwards. Truck Norris is Truck Norris thats just the way it is
  6. can i remove valve guides on my z 24 cylinder head, or do they have to be pressed out
  7. hello, my first day here and new to the datsun/ nissan world, and not a great machanic at this point. So bare with me for some of my questions. I have a 1987 nissan d 21 with z 24 engine. It has 440 000 kms, the electronic carb just packed it in. Got the same carb from a 86 d 21 put it in , but it wasn't taped out for one fitting with two wires coming from it. I don't know what that is, but aside from a slighty higher and sometimes fluctuating idle truck runs great. Any info on what that might be would be appreciated. It on the passinger side and the rear of two fittngs that were on my old electronic carb. I bought the engine from the same truck and am wondering if i can use it , with just changing the bell housing and putting my clutch tranny on it
