  1. Haha! The car came from Socal! I drove from Oklahoma to San Diego and back in less than 48 hours to get it. If I could get 8k for it, I would drive it right back out there. Funny you say that, I'm not so sure how the Datsun market here in Oklahoma is going to play out in my sale. When I bought the car I was dead-set on getting one and there weren't ANY around here, so I had to drive to SoCal to get this one. If I can find someone around here that's looking, it would definitely work in my favor, but if no one around here is looking I could take a hit... Everyone, thank you for all of your kind words and encouragement to keep the car. Trust me, selling it is the last thing I want to do, but life has changed drastically since I bought it and I've more or less lost interest in it. I was single with no kids when I bought it, now I'm married with two young boys and I just don't have the time for it anymore and the money could be put to better use elsewhere. I had been considering having some paintless dent repair done on it to fix a lot of the dents, I think I'll go ahead and do that, along with a more modern set of wheels to make it even more attractive. I've also got a pretty large collection of parts, most brand new in the OEM Nissan boxes, to go along with the car, so I'm sure that would appeal to a potential buyer.

  3. Very likely... I was probably in a hurry and got ahead of myself... -___-
  4. Thank god... I was planning on replacing the whole front cover... I'll definitely try JB Weld before I do that... Thanks! I haven't checked my center coil wire yet... didn't have a second set of hands last night. I'll have the wifey help me out tonight and check that. Yeah, I think the spindle may be off a bit... It looks like it's closer to 10:25 than it does 11:25
  5. I dranied the tank and put in fresh gas... I've checked the plug wires 175 times now and tried a number of different combinations... I've played with adjusting the timing on the dizzy... I know there is fuel getting to my carbs... Last night after reading everyones input I pulled my cap off and it looks like the rotor is not exactly lined up with #1... so I pulled the dizzy off to check spindle alignment and see this..... HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN?!?!?! Anyone got a front cover they want to part with? FML.....
  6. Thanks. That's what I was thinking. lol Just needed someone to reassure me. So, any ideas on why I'm not getting any fire?
  7. Car: 1971 Datsun 510 Engine: L16 So, my car blew a head gasket last year and I'm just now getting around to fixing it. I put everything back together just as it came apart (I think)... I can't get it to fire for anything. It cranks and cranks and cranks but doesn't even act like it wants to fire. I was just out in the garage playing with it trying to get it started and decided to pull the valve cover to check cam timing once again. I made sure it was at TDC when I first pulled the valve cover and it appeared that the timing was right... The notch in the gear met up perfect with the little dash, and the dowel pin was in the #1 hole... so I decided to hand crank the crankshaft 360 degrees and when I did that the cam was then about 180 from where it should be..... am I just having a total retard moment here, or could my cam be 180 out??? I left the cam on the head when I had it machined, so it's possible that the machine shop turned the cam and it ended up 180 from where it was when I took it in... but would it even be able to crank if the cam was 180 out or would I be smashing valves?!
  8. Okay, so upon further inspections.... The rocker arms were never removed, JUST the cam! Whew!
  9. Yes, I blocked the timing chain so the tensioner wouldn't unload. I learned that the hard way the first time I pulled the head.
  10. Alright guys, I'm pretty new to the Datsun still yet, so be easy on me... I bought my car about a year ago with a blown head gasket and I'm just now getting around to fixing it. I pulled the head and took it to be surfaced. When I took the head in I just left the cam and all of the valvetrain on the head, because I wasn't sure if it needed to be taken off or not. Well... It did. The guy at the machine shop pulled the cam off and now I'm not sure how it goes back together, as far as timing and such. I've got the 8 position cam sprocket, an aftermarket cam, and an Ed Hale 2.0l port and polished head that has now been surfaced a bit... Which hole does the cam dowel need to go in? Can I just put it back together using the factory timing marks, like described in my "How to modify your Datsun" books? Or is there a special procedure to doing this correctly? Please, keep your answers simple in terms, since I am new to this stuff. lol Thanks guys!
  11. Welp, looks like I need to start saving my pennies... I want to buy all the parts! lol
  12. Just read this entire thread... it has further inspired me to get back to work on my dime... awesome car, build, and thread! Thanks!
  13. Sweet goon! Link to some pics of the cactus 4 door?
  14. Looks like a blasty blast! Can't wait to get mine out there and kill some cones!
