#1531144 521 re-redone DD

Posted by banzai510(hainz) on Yesterday, 06:40 AM

I had a Spec Clutch,  abit too strong for a daily semi hot L16. and then the disc they had with it sheared on me and had to get it towed home.  I throw it way. Clutch fingers were worn on one side more, like didnt  wasnt  made right.. Doesnt say place of orgin where the pressure plate was made. I wonder if China.Disc was Valeo ,Korean  T/O bearing had lots of scarring.

I would go Roadster Daiken Or Nissan if you want a stronger clutch set up. that Rodster place bought up allthe daiken clitches I think 150$.

But I went back to stock soft clutch for a daily.

But cool to see the 521 still going

use a low pressure pump for carbs or run the stock mechan pump.

get a 510 oil pan(pick up tube) look like a truck pan on there

Lots of nice parts you have. maybe be cheaper to install on more a rust free car. rust is a pain to fully get right otherwise it comes back.

Just rollit the way it is to keep the cost down and find a better body. I would just drive this one the way it is. maybe find better wheels that fit. the fronts dont look right. too much stretch.

header get it ceramic coated or they rust in 2 months painted or not. better yet get the stock one ceramic coated and use that instead those never leak. I have the same header ceramic coated but I dont plan on using it. most likely goes to the recycle dealer

get under there and wiggle shit around. if not wiggle then dont worry to much abut it yet

the upper bushing are EZ to change but there is a way to do it EZer than what I did before.Jack the hub up and spray  PB blaster on the bushing and nut ans inside ans turn the bolt or nut which ever one is EZer to get the bolt out and then wack with a hammer with the nut on the get bolt out far as possible before you remove the nut so bolt slides thru the hole

I recently did the my center link and tie rods.

if front dont shake dont worry about it

why you need it alighned? Tires wearing badly  If tires OK then dont worry about it.

I Would trace out the wires ans clean them.

Get it started? not hard to figure out if the wires are good.

Ignition ON power to coil

Start wire. bypassisng coil and the ON position tothe ballast . 12volts

get carb to squirt gas

set the valve lash

drain gas and get a new fuel filter

therse cars are simple.

buy a cheap 4 dollar test light. EZer than using a multimeter. Using a multimeter shows 12volts draining or not unless you use the current part of the meter which you hook up in series to the battery. a test like is the same but lights  to say it DRAINING. a meter will give you a  uA or mA number and then you say is that the right number or not.

go to you tube and look up scotty Kilmer battery drain vid about 45-50 secs in to it show how to ck for this.

also by a volt meter that plugs in to the cig lighter. they work great and see a alt go bad before it put you on side of the road insread waiting for the IGN lit to come on is too late usually

Yes it more or less a turn IN ward to hit the trhottle shaft to open the butterfly.

really mine is like a 1/4 after is touches.  If its really turn in alot(like say 2 turns in) that means the idle jet could be plugged and your running on the main circut.

if your not and say 1/4 turn after touching then your idle jet is most like OK.

it can be all a combo of a electric choke, mixture, speed screw and timming to get a best set running position. also if anything in a poin ignition wearing out or out of adjustment.

also ck the lower bolts on the intake exhaust.

I have never done the starting fluid in the manifold before I seen your vid and look like yeah thats it. but to me If runs really low rmp its OK but tighening back up is free and this was recently done if I remember right. Thinking its a new intake exhaust gasket. Since you had the head off.

As for the statment, "This is never ending"  It usually will be. My Daily driver 12k a year 521 I dont go 2 months w/o something going  bad. Its usually a minor issue of soemthing just wearing out or getting a junk rebuilt parts like a alt or starter (weakkey switch included).

My Banzai Flag beater 510  over 8 yrs I have good parts and Nissan Alt ,starter  I never work on except the jet blocks backing out of the Mikunis carbs .But dont drive much either anymore.

My yellow convert 510 I sold(YES I sold it) I never worked on that one either. Hardest part was just trying to keep air in the 3 pc rims was a MOFo

next time my alt goes out Im going to try the Rockauto 35 amper they got ,Says a New Alternator. I know its China but Im going to try it. The Hitachi cores must just be wore out now as I dont get 1 year out of them. starters also.

Im going to try the starter sold Thru TSI Automotive 200$ which is a Denso unit and also sold thru TroyErmish at 510 parts outlet 240$  OF COARSE WHEN THESE GO BAD i WILL TRY

tighten the bolts a little more.I think your good anyways otherwise it wont run that low of a rpm if a bad leak.  If anything you water will be going low as the heat passage in head would get sucked in also.

if stops at idle sometimes then clean the idle jet and reset timming again.

adjust the mixture

speed screw should be should be no more than a turn if that.

Most need reboring.

Guess you could just rering the old pistons if nobody took them apart and just see how it goes.

Im sure the L20 will need new bore also. Say it out of round. Thats what they to me also(autosport Seattle) Bu I had pistons already.

find a running L16/18 to put in.

If anybody is keeping their kiNGpiN Datsun a long time best to have a spare set of spindals and the wedge pins which" mklotz70" makes as spares as most get destroyed when banging them out.

I have a set ready to go in so your not at the mercy of a shop  thinking they doing you a favoror take a long time(which is more common now to find a shop that will do this.)

Best to sawzall the upeer lower arms off to have as sapres and the hub for the hard to get bearings. I just just the whole hub if a bearing goes bad(hasnt yet)

$250 is the usual price

my guy was ritired and gave it to another and he ruined the Kingpins  Hydralic pressing the pin in and not honeing for the pin and said it will wear in.  Fuck my steering would havebroke. I found another guy and did it for 60 apc plus the cost of the kingpin set which is like 100$ now
