I never seen a early Datsun coil go bad.

I seen the loosing the hot start 12volts or 12volt going to the coil when back is back to ON. Most time its the ballast wire loose or the connector in back by key switch.

You can have spark and gas but no compression it not going to start

If you dump gas in carb and then it starts it shows you have compression and spark.

So do the math. Is it means how about ck the valve lash on this L16.

I had a tiny rock in my main jet. I had to put the choke on and it would cause the 2ndary to run enough(more vacuum) to get home. It was a weber 32/36

see if it runs when pouring gas in the carb. this bypasses most of the car so helps you trouble shoot.

also as above mention a crack causing a massive vacuum leak

I daily a 521 since 2000. Its a task to keep running. Some times once a month I have something going out but I know the truck. You or your room mate might not be up to the task but these are very simple trucks to work. on.

If room mate is broke already It mite be better to get a nicer more modern car.

In a few months of driving half the rubber hydrulic stuff might be leaking.

you even time this?

Buy a new weber.

saw the vid/ try pouring gas in from the top. see if it fires right away. if it does then the carb is fucked.

#1544181 battery hold downs for 521

Posted by banzai510(hainz) on 05 February 2018 - 06:26 AM

MIne looks like the Schucks version of Dat521gatherer in post 13. Its shot.

I like Waynos set up but I don't have a junction point to hook to on the inner fender well.

A generic version of this that goes from front to back would be best to make to use existing hook points. A composite

I got to measure the battery. Its a smaller one I got from Walmart

DanielI will ck it out 2mrow. My stock one was gone along time ago.(was hoping you chime in on this one anyways.)

My battery keeps getting that white shit on there and corrodes the square HOLD down.  O Riley/Schucks used to sell these by the tons but they don't have it anymore.

I clean it and keeps coming back. I thought it was from overcharging. I don't know. Some one says too much moisture?

Well my battery is old and not holding a charge on a real cold day(it charging) so I got a new battery with cables and just want to get a nice hold down for it. Might even get that GR starter sold thru TSI Automotive (Denso).

#1544007 battery hold downs for 521

My square box type batter hold down has rotted out and can seem to find any new ones near by. What are people using to hold down battery besides Rbber cord/Bungy staps.

I would like to use the stock holes on end with the threaded hooks.

They type I see now is the one that goes across the middle but the inner fender well don't have a hole or mount to use the hooks

Photos would help.

My option is to go across the top from Pos to neg side with a bar type set up and hold it that way but don't want to use metal in case it slides and hits the posts

I don't know if you tried this before you cut but one can just put the pedestal mount on 180 off and that will get the Vacuume adv on the other side .

there where 2 types of pedastals for the matchbox as they were slightly off(pedastals) the common one using the point and matchbox dizzy
