  1. lol, very true, not fun selling on cl. Last sale for me was a wagon about 2 yrs ago. Went something like this: -whats your lowest asking price?....Already discussed this, not to mention its in the ad -(actually asked me this) Will you take off the duel carbs and put on a single...and drop the price?......No -will you take a ps3 as partial trade? No..as stated in ad only cash. -does it go fast? You probably shouldn't buy the car if all you want to do is "go fast" lol -will you take 700 even though your asking 2000. uhhhh no, cant do that sorry. (even though earlier in the convo he got me down to 1200) ---only went that low because lack of work back then--- At the time of the attempted sale the goon had a little issues but not much. I was asked if I would fix it for him before selling it to him. My response was...Im thinking this isn't the car for you. There are probably cars on cl better suited for your needs sorry...lol I was surprised at my response thinking about it later because im a fairly relaxed person, but then again ignorant questions just piss me off lol
  2. just a few pics, even though its dark. Thank you all very much, I managed to get her going again right after the pics. Ended up needing new cables. tytyty. cant say thank you enough. Started with one running and driving 510 and ended with 2 drivers
  3. I'll get more pics up tomorrow during the day. Came home from work today, looking forward to putting things back together. Bought myself new pos/neg cables. To my surprise, the tools I was using were stolen overnight =(. Mighty fine neighbors I must have. Been living here for about 9 yrs and before this only thing taken was a broken radio. Kind of killed my mood, lost some nice ratchet wrenches, not to mention the ratchet i was using. I'll have to dig though my shed tomorrow and get out the main set. Could probably go around the house and find what I need lol. Kind of just pisses me off though. I am more upset about not getting it running rather than the stolen tools. Time to make another set for the car =/
  4. yep, im on it. Just went outside and took em off. Couldn't stop thinking about it lol. they are rather shabby looking, lots of corrosion. I should have figured, canada tends to use salt on roads in the winter...rather corrosive. Thats why I had to save her and bring her down to Portland, Or. =P Looking at the wires as they enter the cable...lots of furrrr. edit- sure do miss thrifty auto open 24/7, I'll have to wait untill tomorrow even though I dont want to.
  5. pic of the inside of the 67. Hopefully it turns out ok, first time trying to post a pic on ratsun.
  6. I'll check that out, first thing tomorrow after work. I cant seem to figure out how to post a pic lol. ...on second thought, I may just pull both cables tonight.
  7. my early 68 has the push button thing. Always wondered what the heck that was for lol. Not in the 67'. The dash looks very uniqe to this model. All metal no pads, ash tray is solid as is the glove box lid. I will have to see if i can get a pic up here if my comp will let me. There are pics of it on the relm. If i remember correctly the guy i bought it from was named Noel or something like that. I seen the add for it still up a few months ago lol. Have pretty good records kept on the car, even recieved a copy of the bill of lading from japan to canada when i brought her down to the states. I have the dealership name, to whom it was sold, Got alot more info than i thought I would get.
  8. I did end up checking that at the end of things. thank god everything turns fine. The starter solenoid just clicks real loud, the gear never engages. Tried the optima battery from my other 510. It does the same thing. Possitve terminal gets hot(only when ign turned to start) but when i remove the wire to solenoid everything seems fine. It pulled quite a bit of power out of the ol optima. Put it back in the 68, slowed the starting of it a tad. Had to let it run a bit to regain the charge. It totally killed the original battery that was in the car. All the electrical seems to work fine lights, heater, wipers no power loss in the on position. Its just when i turn to the start position it grounds out then it takes about a minute for the power to fully come back. First thought it was starter solenoid, but clearly im missing something here.
  9. Although it is missing some things too. Hazards/flasher switch is non-existant, no cig lighter. Love this oddball, even though its going through some ruff times atm. I drove by stark street pizza today. Sorry i was in a hurry with all life happenings. Had other cars to fix besides mine today =/ . When it rains it pours.
  10. Yep, drum brakes all around. I consider myself lucky to own such a car. Im keeping this stock. I have another 68 im currently driving. The 67 dieing on me caused me to make the 68 drive lol. I was planning to start a resto on it but not untill march. I did clean my battery posts and all that good stuff. that pos side cable seems to get hot when I put ignition in start possition along with the usual click of the solenoid. taking off the wire that engages the solenoid, everything acts fine. still cant jumper it either. The ground cable on this model is the lower starter bolt. I was thinking of renewing this as well, should do both cables while im at it.
  11. My problems started New Years Eve. I went out to make a run to the store to my surprise all I get is a click. Therefore, my first instinct was starter solenoid. So rather, than test the solenoid, I just replaced the starter with another from my other datsun. I still get a click at the solenoid, so I continue to check the ignition switch, voltage regulator, alternator, ect. I find that I have full power in the on position. Seems like it grounds when turned to the start position. I end up rechecking the wire black/yellow (runs from ign switch to starter solenoid) for possible grounding/continuity….seems fine. I unplug the same wire from starter and turn ign switch in all positions. Everything seems fine. I decide to try a jumper wire to starter…just a click at the solenoid. I cannot figure this out. Just does not make sense to me. It acts like its grounding somehow at the starter. I ran out and grabbed a new starter and voltage regulator just to be safe. Still the same issue. A little history of the car- it is a 67 datsun 510 1.3L, manual 3 spd column shift. Just picked this up from Canada last march and been driving it ever since then. It was driving perfect before this happened. The wires are very unusually clean and nothing has been cut. Out of 12 510’s I have owned this by far is the best wire wise. I am currently using a wiring diagram from “autopress” by Kenneth Ball. Only thing I could find that matches the 1.3L besides the stock book that comes with the car new. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Denny edit- the battery seems to drain almost all power as soon as the solenoid clicks, takes it a second to come back to full power. even does this to my new optima battery. Thought this may be note worthy. I have never seen a battery pulled that low in a 510.
  12. That would be great, definetly post your results im very interested... I dont want to hook it up wrong and fry my wiring. I would experiment but, this is my only transportation atm. If you dont find a solution I may have to wait for my next 2 days off in a row to give me plenty of time to fix in case i fail..lol I currently dont have a cell phone atm =( too many bills to take care of atm, perhaps in the future. Thanks ahead of time for what you may find out, hopefully good news =)
  13. def good to know. I'll have to look that up here somewhere to see how that works. Thanks for the info guys, I would rather go with a little higher amps if I can. Now on to the what seems like an endless search lol. edit: hmmmm, cant seem to find the info on the 4 wires to 2. back to searching =/
  14. I have been looking feverishly with no luck. I'm looking to purchase a stock alternator for a 68 datsun 510. Its the alternator with the 4 wire plug and 6 wires total to the alternator. guess I'll have a look in the local wrecking yard. If anyone happens to have one sitting around give me a post and I will come buy her off ya. Thanks, DS ps..happy 5-10 day =)
  15. Looks like that may be my best bet =(. Bad thing is I live in an apt so when I have stuff shipped here I often never see it o.o hmmmm perhaps do they have a local store? Looked in the yellow pages with no luck =(. On another note after a whole day of searching for this specific alternator I found one or so I thought.... guy on the phone told me "yeah its the 4 wired plug" went to pick it up and....No its not sir...lol. Was worth a try though...I suppose I'll have to wait until a datsun meet or something =(. I hope she dosn't go completely out untill that day.
