well it drove great while it lasted. on the way home from the oldschool reunion today it melted a hole in the cylinder head between the 2 and 3 cylinder

well it runs and drives, now equipped with an L20 and a long tail 5 speed. exhaust needs to be fixed as it hangs a low and scrapes but it's getting there.

will post OICs later, I am still alive and the 521 should be back up and running shortly. Figured it was time to start working on the datsun. Saturday morning the motor L20 and long tail 5 speed were just sitting in the bay, by the end of the day sunday the motor/trans was set in its mounts and installed the following; 1 piece driveline, intake manifold and header, alternator, wp pulley and fan, starter, t-stat flange..... it has spark and cranks over but not running yet. Tried quickly to get it to fire on some starting fluid but seems like the timing is off a bit. getting some backfire(ish) type booms out the header. pulled the fuel line from the pump and seems like it is getting fuel to the carb. Also flipped the shifter and gave it a slight bend so it will clear the bench seat in all gears.

so i tore apart both motors last night. the og l16 had blown the headgasket on the #4 cylinder. the l20 has a very new timing set in it. I sure am glad i decided to pull it apart though. it appears the motor was rebuilt by someone who knows whatt hey were doing and ran it for a very short time. Looks like the motor then transfered into some young dipshits hands and all the bolt on parts were removed to paint and put back on with no gaskets or the old gaskets....

so i finally got off my ass and working on getting the L20 cleaned up and ready to put in. pulled the oil pan off my old motor removed all the paint and grease. uncovered the L20 and got it out where i could work on it. found that it already had a 521 oil pan on it..... started removing all the paint from the block and found all the freeze plugs are new. this thing look familiar to anyone? bright ass orange block with yellow and blue accents
  6. not sure, we ran it on saturday and sunday and it was fine. now that i'm back in seattle she says its acting up again
  7. usually would do a little more research so smite me if you must. I am over in Idaho for the weekend and my mom tells me her 720 just started having a stall issue when warm and won't restart untill it cools down. I haven't looked at it yet sobbily something like a bad fuel pump relay or do these have a hot idle valve?
  8. good read and awesome build. love to see people improvise and build it themselves

think i would either need to weld a new flange on the bottom or weld the outer section of the bolt whole closed, re-drill it and grind it smooth

told her about 3 just in case...upon removal i found the exhaust manifold has a break in it at one of the studs that the p.o. had tried to repair. so now its either junkyard shopping for a manifold or buy a shorty header which i'd rather not do
  11. clutch kit came today. seems like its legit. flywheel is def heavy, holy shiat.

well motor and tranny are out. clutch kit came in today and the engine is getting cleaned up. truck is getting a l20b and a 5 speed out of a 260z ... wife is already asking how long before its back together
  13. the l20 i pulled had an auto mated to it and I don't have a flywheel .... updated the main post
  14. im sure the 240 is way more clutch than it would ever need. however price and availablitiy is nice. i do have a couple throwout bearing collars that i have pulled from the wrecking yards...
  15. i guess i need some help/clarification. I am putting a l20b into my 521 with a longtail (260z) 5speed. i wasn't smart enough to pull the flywheel when i pulled the tranny from the jy. I plan on using my "truck" ... i know everyone says use exedy clutches but I am left with options. It appears I can use a 200mm flywheel and run a roadster clutc, 225mm flywheel and clutch and a 240mm clutch from the newer ka's. Logic says use the largest clutch assembly possible to have the most surface area, although something with a higher clamping rate on the pressure plate also raises question to use seems like one of the cheapest options for flywheel http://www.allreplacement.com/product/3856 and this seems to be the cheapest option for clutch flywheel combo http://gripforce.com/product/exedy-oem-clutch-kit-and-f1-oem-flywheel-nissan-pathfinder-720-d21-pickup-2.0l-2.4l.html the reason i am asking is i don't have a flywheel ;)
