  1. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu doesn't actually involve punching and kicking, it's more throws, control, joint locks and chokes. So basically- you tell me how to fix my truck and if I dislike your advice....I choke you I'm actually in University Place if you know where that is. PM me and I'll send you my phone number. I've heard this before, will do!
  2. Basically, I am hoping to have someone just look over my '83 720 and give me advice on things I can improve on/tweak/maintenance. I can do the mechanical part my self (with the help on Haines,) just need an experienced eye. I could give you a lesson or a few on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or sport/mma grappling. I'm a Brown belt in BJJ, a professional coach and have had MMA fights as well. Could be a fun thing for you to try to see if you like it. I have mats at my house so you wouldn't have to make multiple trips. You could come take a peek at the truck and then do a little training. Let me know if you're interested.
  3. I'm getting real tired of pulling up- toting along the smell of burning oil. I've looked everywhere and it's dang near impossible to locate- there's quite a bit of oil and I'm out of ideas. What do you guys do? 1983 Nissan Datsun 720 2.4
  4. Thank-you so much!! This is absolutely the problem!!!! Just ordered a new one for 15 bucks!
  5. Hey all- I'm driving and out of nowhere- my clutch pedal is limp on the floor and I'm unable to shift into gear. After I wait a few minutes, the pedal has resistance again and I'm able to drive home. It's happened a few times and has me puzzled. The reservoir on the slave sylinder is full and I don't see any fluid anywhere? Not sure what's going on but it has be scared to drive anywhere as I got stuck at a green light which was a little embarrasing... Thanks for any insight! 1983 Nissan Datsun 720 2.4
  6. thanks datzenmike how will I know if the tensioner has fallen out?
  7. So I'm replacing my head gasket and I didn't put a block in the timing chain... I did keep tension on the chain the whole time though...first I zip tied it to the camshaft sprocket to see if it would fit through the head...but after it didn't, I kept tension on the chain while a friend lifted the head off. I've got the chain tied to something (keeping tension, until I put the head back on tomorrow.) It just felt like it was going to be hard to get the sprocket back on the end of the shaft. Can I get a bit of slack in the chain or do I just need to pull up harder to get it on?
  8. Yesterday I had my hood open and I noticed my coolant resorvoir looked dark...popped it open...and uh-oh...oil. I only had a short ride home so I couldn't see if the truck was overheating. When I got home, I checked again and it was darker and had a bit of "frothiness" to it. When I checked it initially, there was no oil in the radiator cap. It's an '83 720 and it only has 80.000 miles so I hope it's nothing major. I initially thought head gasket but I'm praying for something less terrible. Also, I checked the dipstick after driving and it looked like straight oil- not frothy. The truck is not symptomatic but I'm afraid to drive it and want to get this figured out. Thanks Ratsun!
  9. Check the fuel level in the carb? I floored the accelerator once before I tried to restart it to reset the choke and it started once then it died shortly after
  10. so I'm on my way home and all of a sudden the truck just loses power as I'm going up a large hill. it's butters and dives and can't be restarted without a whole lot of coaxing and after it is restarted it immediatly dies. I coasted back down the hill to a flat spot and let it sit for about 15 minutes and it is able to be restarted and runs for about 10 seconds before dying. My plan is to let it sit, get cold and then try to limp it home. What the heck it's going on?
  11. So, I've got an '83 720 that runs like a champ and has low miles...but the thing drips oil. Every time I park, I have a small puddle of oil under my truck. Thought it was the oil pan gasket so I replaced that....still dripping. Today I sprayed the engine degreaser on 'er and tried to isolate the source, it's hard to tell with all the crap in the way but it looks like it's coming from behind (or in the vicinity) of the motor mount just next to the oil filter. I'm fairly certain it's not from the filter, it was leaking before and I've sinced replaced the filter. This truck would be perfect if not for this and it's driving me batty. Any thoughts?
  12. ok, my dash looks a bit different. where the tach and clock are, the plastic is just dark with a double lined, white circle.
  13. I've got an '83 720 and my question is fairly simple... what gauges/displays should I see in the dash? I've got my speedometer in the middle but that's all. To the right and left of the speedometer are two circles, but they appear dark, nothing in the middle. My oil light, battery, and other warning lights appear to work just fine, is something missing or is this the "stock" option? Thanks.
  14. Problem solved! Replaced my alternator and wow!...what a difference! I hadn't realized it was idling higher than it should've before since the truck was new to me. I just kept thinking,"the gas mileage should be better on a well kept 4 banger like this." The truck is one sweet ride now. My question now is, what are my options for getting sound back in the lil banana? 1. Do I reconnect the amp and keep the sound in the mid/low range? 2. Do I buy/install a capacitor...will this help? 3. Get a smaller amp?
