  1. So....came back from a 2 week trip and some nice person stole all my gas.....I filled it back up and it wouldn't run.... 1. Looked at fuel filter and it was empty, so pulled the line from metal line into the engine bay, put the tube from filter to can of gas and it fired up. 2. Put line back together, filled up gas tank and still wouldn't start. 3. Replaced new fuel filter, removed gas line again and sucked up gas into the fuel filter just fine, engine ran. 4. Put line back together to fuel tank and it fires up, but the gas inside the fuel filter looks like it is boiling..... 5. Truck idles, but dies when gas is given to it...... Never had an issue with carb / fuel in the three years I have had the truck. Could being drained for 2 weeks cause something to dry out? At a loss.....any thoughts out there? Thanks..Ben
  2. Well....looks like there were many Gremlins helping me with this project because I found all of this... 1. My jumper wire was fried again, so I went to Radio shack and bough some real jumper connections...resoldered. 2. Right turn signal bulb out, changed. nothing. Replaced original turn signal relay and all good. 3. Must have jostled my patch job from last year when I rewired headlights...wire had pulled loose. Redid correctly with connectors and new wires, inline fuse. I jumped the stock fuse link and made it inline....crimped and secured... headlights back. So there you have it..just a bunch a weird little things that happened in a row. At least I know my headlight / dash lighting system down now. Needed an excuse to work in the garage and have a couple beers anyways! As one who believes in paying it forward, if anyone would like LED's for their truck, I have 5 more left over. Amazon has great deals and I bought a 10 pack of bulbs. it was cheaper than 2 LED's for $20.00 at the auto parts store. Let me know. Ben
  3. http://s1283.photobucket.com/user/benmuellerb/media/20160213_193242_zps7w123sv3.jpg.html? Success! Thank you for the help on this. Went through step by step and had it all back together in under an hour. Went for the blue lights to match my stereo. Looks awesome.
  4. Awesome. Thank you guys. I will use your suggestions this weekend and let you know what happens!
  5. Yes...I removed the led bulbs and reinstalled the regular bulbs without removing the cluster...no lights.
  6. So, thought it would be cool to install LED lights for my instrument gauge to brighten them up. Read the posts...looked simple enough..right? Round 1. During removal of instrument panel from dash I hit the something on removal... bzzzt....smoke from back of gauge cluster. (guess I should have remembered to removed the negative on the battery. No instruments lights. Back to the forum. Burned out patch on circuit board. Read forum..repaired circuit board with wire and solder. Round 2: Reinstall gauge cluster with regular bulbs, battery...lights all work. Remove cluster to disassemble unit to remove the green bulb housings to get more light. Round 3: Got my LED's in.. gauge ready to go. Reinstall unit...BZZZZT! Smoke..again! My negative battery terminal slid back over and was touching the pole.... Remove unit. no visible damage to the circuit board. Patch still holding...reinstall...so here's what I have: 1: No instrument lights. 2. Left turn signal works 3. Right turn signal does not 4. All exterior lights work. Hi / low beam okay. 5. No fuses blown in engine bay. So besides learning how to tie my negative cable away from the battery..does anyone have and thoughts? Any help would be appreciated.

After some slight sanding to get of a little surface rust I was able to get a close match to the paint, but it sure ties it together! On a side note...in my travels I have found 2 other tailgates. One is mint and the other is banged up but all parts are there. Both are located in Washington. If anyone is interested I an let you know where they are located..
  8. Follow up as promised. Big thanks for all the information, but Wayno get the prize for the Keep It Simple Stupid advice. Sure enough...wiggled the fuses and the lights came on. I never would have gone that route since I had replaced all of the fuses as well as cleaned the fuse block terminals not less than 6 months ago. For now, I got two inline fuses and have run the lights and the parking lights straight from battery kind of as was suggested from the gentlemen above. Seems like there is no adverse effects from not going through the fuse box and the inline connectors are more secure that the clips on the fuse box. I used some wet/dry sand paper and cleaned all contact points in the old relay as well as a nice coating of crc and resealed it, so hopefully it will keep working for another 40 years!
  9. Hello all. My headlights went out on my 521, and all indication is that it is the relay. I have gone over the boards and read about rewiring with a newer relay but for the life of me I cannot get anything to work. I have done 2 different styles of wiring....directly to the new relay from the battery and then using the old relay for high/low, as well as just wiring straight to the new relay. nothing seems to work. One thing I have noticed is that the Red / Yellow combo wire that is the power from the light switch does not have juice when I pull the light switch out to the "lights on" position. Running lights work as well as interior gauges. No high or low beams. If I run power from battery to new relay, I can get lights, but they are constantly on unless I take the ground off the battery. The high / low wire doesn't see to do anything with the relay at all. So..quick thought. How bad would it be if I run power off of the wire going to my parking lights into the "control power" spot on my new relay? Wouldn't that give me at least low beams while my running lights are on? Or should I just rewire a new switch for headlights? Full day burned up in garage and little frustrated! Or...if it is my switch, any swaps with old Datsun switches would work? Many thanks in advance. Ben
  10. I was wondering about the moped myself, but the whole bed of the truck was filled with random shit. The detectives called and asked if I wanted to press charges....Hell yes! Said it was not guy's first time. I was told the truck was seen leaving some apartments at 4 :30ish in the morning and he did not have the lights on, so at first stoplight they ran plates and that was it! I found a whole bunch of tools I would consider for breaking into imports...shiv's, wrenches, some weird jumper wires, a siphon pump for stealing gas. Also had a key with about 20 keys that were all filed down for different imports I guess. At least the asshole bought an air freshener for me....
  11. I picked up the truck from impound today. yes, he was arrested. I did not get the name, but I did press auto theft charges. Also..I have a battery kill switch on firewall of truck in engine bay, as well as a battery disconnect on the terminal...figured that would deter any normal thief. They showed me that he had a key ring of keys that were all filed down to match different types of cars...and i'll be damned if there was not a key filed to exactly like mine! Also...if you do not have them....I use Haggarty Classic car insurance on the 521....$110 a year for coverage, and they paid for the $220 town and impound fee...so if you are looking for a good classic insurance that delivers....i'd look into those fellas...
  12. Hey everyone! Got a call from King County Sherrif @ 5:00 this morning...my 521 was found with the thief driving it to boot!! So the Datsun gods were a smiling! I asked if the thief resisted arrest, but sadly no. But they got the bastard and no damage to the White Pony. They drove it from Seattle to Bellingham and then back, so I guess I know she is roadworthy!!If anyone is from Burlington, Washington and they are missing a sweet moped, it was in the back of my truck and the king county police have it. Well..its actually at the tow yeard still. Thanks for all the kind words...there is justice out there!!!
  13. Hey...thanks for the messages and the pictures put up on the other thread! I appreciate it. I was at work and was trying to do all this from a smartphone..the picture thing still kicks my ass. Well, the police are notified...maybe the Datsun gods will prevail...
  14. Well...not how you want to wake up Monday morning, but looks like someone stole my 521 last night. Was located on Queen Anne. If anyone sees a white 521 either for sale or parting out on this forum, please call me at 206.282.4794. Much appreciated...Ben
