    Engine harness questions

Thank you, that's the kind of answer I was after. Probably a better idea then to label all the connectors and create a new engine harness.
  2. I'm planning on eliminating the EFI from my '77 (triple sidedraft) and running different ignition ( optical Dizzy and MSD 6AL). I've been hunting down the engine harness, trying to find what connections will no longer be used and weigh my wiring options. It's a restomod project with slow progress, so I'm trying to sort of fumble my way into a plan. Aside from the primary differences (AFM and fuel injection), would it be possible to use a 240/260z engine harness on a 280? Assuming the connectors are the same and the pinouts are the same, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, but thought I would check here before I start taking wires out.

    Stroker Questions

I've done lots of reading from some great resources, including the traditional books and forums, but I just have some questions: I understand Kameari offers a stroker kit for a 3.2L L28 that utilizes an 85mm crankshaft, and their own pistons and rods...after some number crunching, they really like a really high compression ratio. And I'm concerned about how high their kit sits atop the deck. Rebello seems to offer a few different options as well. I have an N42 block that needs to be bored at some point (some scoring from previous rebuild before I purchased the motor...looks like a ring notched the top of the cylinder wall pretty badly). Right now, I'm just focusing on getting the car running as is before I seriously start building on it, but I'm just looking ahead... I know the conventional 3.1L setup is 240Z rods with larger rod bolts, LD28 crank with 720/D21/240SX pistons, 89mm bore, and that combo yields a piston that's only 0.6mm above the deck--and that's pretty manageable with Cometic headgaskets and other headgaskets. I've done some searching, and found lots of questions on various places without anyone really posting some serious results/experiences with an 85mm crank achieved by offset-grinding an LD28 crank. Is there any tried setup that utilizes an 89mm piston, 85mm offset-ground crankshaft and some kind of connecting rod? I'm not -as- concerned about rod/stroke ratio as long as it is 1.5:1 and above. I'm just kind of feeling out and trying to learn from others.
  4. Welcome, lets see some pictures.

  5. First off, hello. My name is Chris, or Ish. I am from Arkansas. I've driven Hondas until this point (But I'm not one of those "VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO" types, trust me). I have a Fit for daily driving. My first car was a Del Sol. Well, about a year ago, I got my hands on a title-less 1977 280Z 5-speed in Bryant. I decided it was time to step into a serious car realm, and wanted to get a project car to build to possibly auto-cross or take to a local drag strip on the weekends and drive on the street. It's been a fight trying to figure out how to get a bonded title in AR. So far, I have no clue where to get the bond taken out to put on the title, but the background check and all prior stuff has turned out fine...which has held me back from sinking serious money into it. The engine was "rebuilt" by the person who owned it before me, but my dad (my partner in this project) and I decided to tear it down anyway and give it a once-over to be sure nothing was unchecked. Sure enough, there were a few problems--A connecting rod bolt snapped while being torqued and had been stretched, so those needed to be replaced (by ARP replacements), and the block probably should have been bored. Also, it is a points distributor, which if I read correctly, a 77 and 78 should have an electronic distributor for the fuel injection. I had planned on doing a stroker/turbo setup on this car in the future, but after some consideration and pricing...I've thought of going a different route. I have seen some 280Z's with the small block Chevy's, and I am impressed with what they put out. Also, I like having less electronic stuff to deal with (Sounds strange for a Honda guy, I bet) , so I really considering using a small block V8. But, I really don't want a 350 or 383 stroker. I had tossed the idea around about using a Ford, but then I thought of using a 400 Small Block. I still have some questions about the changeover, but I'm really liking the idea. Hopefully, as it all comes together I can become a part of this community. :)
