Engine shake at shut off

I'm getting a slight engine shake at shut off. Just swapped the tranny, wondering if I weakened a motor mount ?

I don't think I have a broken motor mount, drives great but it just started this after the swap.

Could it be something else ?



Speedometer Cable question

Can the inner cable be removed at the transmission to lubricate the speedometer cable or does it have to be removed at the speedometer ?

What's the best oil to use ?


Some say ONLY: GL-4 Yellow Metal Safe

Some say it doesn't really matter.

Some say go synthetic.


There are a ton of new oils out there now, viscosity varies a lot.

Hoping someone has experimented and can save me guessing.


Clutch Pilot Bushing/Bearing

Wondering if anyone had run into this issue replacing the clutch pilot bushing. 

The bushing fits the output shaft but after install the bushing it must be compressing enough so that the inside diameter is smaller than the shaft not allowing it to fit.


I've never run into this before, I have frozen bushings before to make the install into the crank easier and avoid bunging them up.


I was just going to hone it out a few thousandths but curious I pulled the bushing and after removing it it again fits the tranny output shaft fine, go figure.


I'm going to try another bushing tonight, different manufacturer, will see what happens.


One other question, what's the opinion on using a bushing over a bearing ?





Speedometer 5 speed tranny swap

I pulled the output gears tranny gears on both boxes. My original 4 - speed has a Red 20 tooth and the 5- speed has the blue 18 tooth.

I believe Mike you say to just cut a slot opposite (180) and use the original 4-speed Red tooth.

When I look at them this would put the gear offset to the other side, does this than make up for the difference in gear size and allow the output gear mesh with the worm gear OK ?


Others say due to the difference in gear sizes to replace the whole unit. 


One other question, I thought all 620 trucks came with 4.375 rear ends. The Red gear would indicate that my 620 has a 4.11 rear end or it would have ben a purple gear … right ?
