  1. thankfully I have another transmission in the back :) I just wanst looking forward to squishing myself in the mud with no mechanic partner (transmissions are a bit heavy and I'm a bit clumsey)... but I get to pick my hubby back up tomorrow morning! (hope the transmission doesnt fall out on the way there, lol) figured I'd be stuck longer than I was
  2. well, stupid me thought since my motor mounts looked good as new they were ok... sloppy little buggers, its like having jello between the engine and the frame, lol... and two transmission bolts backed out 2 turns (vibrations suck)... realized the drive line has strange ballance weights on it, lots of em, directly across from eachother? and is practically new (still has shop stickers intact), I inherited the gremiln when I bought the truck and only three things that havent been swapped by prev owner or me would be the trans case, transmission and rear end... wondering if one of the rear axles isnt warped/bent, all u joints good and tight though, thats why I was so perplexed... oh, the shavings were from the transmission not transfer case, I should check it again though. thank you all for the advice, made me look at things I didnt think to recheck!
  3. my husband claims it was due to them getting too hot before and they pulled the treads on him, I think he just wanted to get it done and out of the way and cross threaded them accidently and wrenched too hard (doesnt know his own strength) durn it! only part I dont have in triplicate! long bed rear driveline... (parts trucks are short bed 83-84) still need to recheck the bushings though, im actually hopeing its a bushing as I have those :) lol diggin for a 2x4... I did note some wear on the slip yoke when doing clutch but nothing major... maybe I should double check that too while I'm at it! thank you, you are king!
  4. ok, its raining, my mech partner/hubby is gone for a while and I dont want to bench press a trans by my self at the moment so... figured I'd ask for some better knowledge on possible other issues before I crush myself in the mud under my truck :P long story short... aquired my 82 after it had been badly abused, swapped motor from my 84+ new radiator, webber carb, new coils, new dizzy & icm, fuel pump, swapped fuel relay, most of the wiring harness (84 broke frame+ no title incase any one is wondering, lol) hub was sheared on passenger, replaced bearings and eliminated front end temporaraly, replaced all missmatched ball joints... burnt the clutch, pressure plate went tits, partsgeek sent z22 clutch, grabbed old flywheel, stripped bolts on crank, pulled everything and tapped, back togeather now and it still has bad vibes... (there is no front drive line or cv shafts atm) oh, and I had to temporarely gut the rear brakes and cap em off rummbles bad at launch enough to rattle everything thats loose on the body/in cab, on rare occasion it lurches/catches on launch (feels like behind motor/trans, mechanical grab, not fuel related) idles great, can rev the heck out of it with no symptoms in neutral or cluch depressed, has a bad warble feeling mid range and vibrates hard enough on highway speeds to keep a penny almost a 1/4 inch off the dash, kinda like realy good base. been also looking at rear end and drive line but cant find a darn thing wrong with them, then again there is no ballance shop here... also when vibrating the transfercase shifter is vibrating the hardest, trans does clunk every now and then... reverse sounds worse than any other gear... I know I need to swap it (baaaad metal in the oil when changed), but if I could limp it a little farther... w/o getting killed :) any one know the symptoms of bad trans case? I've never had a problem with them before... and never been called on to fix for anyone any way I'll quit my rambling...
  5. just went trough this myself, lol... hubby almost lost his finger tring to get trans out without removing motor... got trans slid back far enough to swap clutch, sent wrong clutch, had to swap fly wheel, hubby stripped out flywheel to crank bolts... gave up and borrowed a cherry picker, should have pulled the darm motor in the first place, much easier to replace clutch with motor out, esp if you have to tap the threads like i did... ok, well mine was a worst case scenario, lol
  6. I didnt see you reply, sorry! I'll pm you pics and what I have when I get out to my boneyard again!
  7. love my truck, hate its gremlins... both my calipers are in good working order but my yoke retainer clips have crumbled to dust and its a pain in my arse trying to find what do do about it, save it be buy brand new calipers when there isnt anything wrong with them (grrrr) cant seem to find a part number for the little buggers and I dont think they come with the hardware kit (dont see them in the pics on rockauto) so I was hopeing some one might have run into this before and has a red neck work arround or a part number or location to purchase the royal little pains :) or... is there a less problematic caliper that might fit? I know 83's & 84's dont fit... any who, any advice would be great... kinda strapped for cash so blowing 130.00 to by new calipers for one tiney little part seems defeatist... its the little white piece of plastic between the caliper (back of piston) and the mounting yoke.
  8. there is a free workshop manual for 720's that probebly has a good diagram for ya, its http://asavage.dyndns.org/nissan/display1.php?Path=720%2FFSM_1984&db=Nissan&table=720_FSM_1984&Page=20-001 probebly your in dash speed selector, easy to fry, lol... had 2 with fried switches. could easily just be your heater relay though

    Voltage issue?

as well as the aforemetioned ground wires make sure your fuseable link wiring is clean and tight fitting, had same gremlin a while back and had to make my own harness piece for replacement as it fatigued all to heck. check your pigtail to the alternator as well, bad wiring equals random gremlins :) here is a schematic for most 720's electrical, its also a semi complete workshop manual so it comes in handy :) the next page shows exacly where the problematic link is as well http://asavage.dyndns.org/nissan/display1.php?Path=720/FSM_1984&db=Nissan&table=720_FSM_1984&Page=20-005 hope this helps!

I've got some 720 pull tabs if anyone need them, make an offer :)
  11. yeah, 82 long beds dont come often, lol (only part I wont get rid of off my trucks) if you end up needing any black interior parts lemme know :) I have an almost complete spare black interior... I have 2 83-84's in my bone yard... montana is a ways from you though :(
  12. realy? I found one right in the isle at my local napa, they have generic axle nut sockets... I'll grab mine tomorrow and get the mm's off it and a part number if I can. used it on my 82, I believe they have the same nut :)
  13. I have a round one, from an 84 :) it has the same connect as the 85. 83-85 are interchangeable, older has square gauge... all mine are state side though, mph first
  14. yup, fuel filter, or your pump could be dieing, tune up prob needed too... problematic filter is on the pump, if you ask for one at the counter they wont give you the right one, and they dont tell you where it is at. follow fuel door down to the pump, remove bottom, watch rust and crap roll out, lol.
  15. I'm always too late :( would have killed for this if I coulda got it... well, who ever got it I have an 82 (trunk not hatch) runs great but no driveline... tons of parts, lol
