  1. Also interested in bolt-ons. Working on getting MS into the 77, after that it's due for suspension.
  2. Nice! Love the roll bar. If I was to request one, what do ya think it would run me? (just the cut/bent tubes if that's cheaper). Also, what EMS are you using? Doesn't look like there's an AFM anymore... I'm about to start an L28ET megasquirt buildup for my 280. Any pointers?
  3. Replacement ignition module arrived! Gonna try to get the zed running tonight to drive there tomorrow. Woo!
  4. Not actually sure what's on the car right now, but I suspect stock. They seem totally worn out and don't damp at all. I hear rebuild kits are no longer extant. Would I be able to replace the oil in a KYB or Monroe oil filled shock?
  5. Wiring diagrams: http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html http://www.4moores.com/280z/files/test_76_280z_wiring%20copy.jpg A little google-fu told me that the yellow wire should be the exciter. (Source: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/alternatorswap/index.html) Turn key to on, check connector for voltage.
  6. My 77 is externally regulated. The V regulator is in the engine bay, near the passenger side strut tower. The unit itself looks like an old style metal relay. In my 77, it did regulation/rectification via an old fashioned fluttering relay. Replaced this with a solid state unit and now get more consistent alternator output. By "will not run under its own power" do you mean that the car just runs down the battery until the engine dies, or the car won't run at all? Dead alternator won't keep your car from running if there's juice left in the battery. AFAIK, alts usually have an exciter wire, which gives 12V to the alternator to cause it to charge the battery. Might want to find this and check it with a meter to make sure you are getting 12V. In my Volvo 245 this wire was dead, so I spliced in a new switched 12V wire. Alt began working again.
  7. Sounds good. Alright, now, brand recommendations? KYB is tempting because they are pretty damn cheap.
  8. Thanks, Mike. These sleeves come with springs at 280 lb/in front and 336 lb/in rear. Stock is something like 180lb/in if I remember correctly.
  9. Coilover noob question: My 280Z needs moar low. Leaning heavily towards these sleeves: http://www.cosmoracing.com/productinfo.asp?cid=259&pid=1543 (Mostly for budget reasons) Unless anyone has bad experiences with them they are as good as bought. Now my question is, for a 2.5" drop, will I be able to use stock height struts, or do I need to find something shorter, like MR2 struts? Also, anyone have brand preferences? I did love me the Tokico Blues that were in my Z31, but they are about twice the price of KYBs for the Dat... I'm stuck overseas for work right now, but as soon as I get back the 77 is coming apart to get less monster trucky.
  10. Tokico vs KYB vs Koni for my Z: Discuss?

280Z, L28E (soon to be ET), street / track. I want low. Also want to be able to take it to skills/track days, and commute occasionally. It looks like the stock rates are pretty weak - something around 100lb/in for front, 180 lb/in for rear (not exactly). I might go with the lower spring rate set so that I don't rattle my car apart.

  11. Trying to decide what EMS to use for my L28ET: Z31t maf and ecu, or go Megasquirt?

Never tried megasquirt but Z31 stuff is super easy to find plus they have Nistune for it.

Know of any good write-ups on the Z31 side of things? Sounds like I would need to modify the dizzy, but almost all else is plug and play.

  12. Just picked up an L28et for the Z.

I've given up on getting Bosch L-Jetronic to stay working for more than a week at a time. Too much old. Pulling it out to swap to Megasquirt. The turbo engine is getting torn down, rebuilt, then dropped in to the car after I get ms working on the NA engine.

Didn't realize these had oil coolers! Damn... Could gone all Boso.

  13. TENDRIL may have something there. You may have a messed up or clogged fuel pickup in the tank. Never dropped mine, but I imagine it's not impossible.
  14. I like it. Seems like this would only cost a little bit more than 4 shocks + ground control sleeves all told. Did you do the install, or was it welded in by a shop?
