  1. I had the same thing on an old bronco. Ended up being a bad ground. Cleans all ground connections, you said you had new cables, check those fusible links-while moving them around. Ohm out everything cold, then when it gets hot and won't work. I'm sure you'll find one gets really high ohm reading when hot (meaning it can't carry the load)
  2. The only difference on those is the number of grooves. Having extra doesn't hurt anything except a slight bit of added weight. Ever find a new pull and bolt?
  3. I need to take apart a lock and check that out! Didnt realize they came apart like that. Ill look for a pic. I was worried about it looking too modern also but it doesnt pop out at me. I want to run a msa type 2 kit and think they may match pretty well. The wiring was easy! Thanks for the response, Brian
  4. A little info if it helps. My 85 had z24 with 4.11s. I ran 31x10.5s with a 3in body lift. Shoulb be able to find those diffs pretty easily. To double transfer case it, id think about that d21 married tcase out to a 720 divorced. Easiest option.
  5. Nice getting it back on the road! I think your about the closest guy to me-I'm down in Omaha. Hit me up if your ever down this way. I have a 76 280. Post a list of what you've done.
  6. Nice looking car and glad to hear it started up! Couple questions, Did you rekey the locks or have the locksmith do it? What mirrors are those, they look good. I have power Zx mirrors, but I wired them up and put the switches in the console. Nobody but a Z guy has ever noticed!
  7. Sad news on that zx t-5. Unless you want to take the case apart its not going to work. I was thinking the same thing but just sold the zx trans and decided id just find a mustang t-5 when the time comes. Check out hybridz org for all those questions. Nice find btw. Itd be kinda cool to find a 5.0 swap as loong as they didnt butcher it.
  8. Hopefully you guy got your ride fixed by now but for future reference... Mine was doing the same things. Smooth idle rev'd ok, no power under load. Breaks-ck, fuel filter-ck, fuel pressure-ck, do you really have fuel-ck. Wtf????? The battery had a dead cell. Wasn't giveing the ignition system enough power under load but enough to idle great. Never thought of it before. The z needs a good battery in the system to run well even with a good alt. Hope it saves some future headaches. -Brian

    First Z Car

We have a 87 325i vert that my wife's been driving. Its fun but not as much fun as my 76 Z. She's kinda gotten bored withit too, so off it goes soon and I get more z parts! Your z looks almost identical to mine when I got it, but wish mine had the flares. Nice score!
  10. Never heard of this swap. I have a new rad for an 80 rabbit on a shelf. Pm me if anybody wants a deal, sold the car. -Brian
  11. Its been awhile since I've gotten to spend any time or $$ on the Z. A couple years ago I knew what I wanted and where to buy it, but It appears some sources have dried up. So where are the places to find this stuff?? -door window seals. Mine are all crap and leak like they aren't even there. Found some door seals at a parts store that work fine. I need to get some new stufffor the window channels too. Awhile ago I read a thread about what vehicles to grab window felt (fuzzies) and the outside door window rubber from at the j/y but cant find it. Any ideas?? -I was going to get some Tokico blues and eibachs, but looks like the blues are all gone. Found a cool thread on here about swapping strut oil for fork oil and using shaft collars to adjust spring height. How many of you have done this and hows it going? Ideas for finding some blues? I have the carpet and body stuff worked out, but not done, and I still have a bushing kit on the shelf. The window mouldings are the next big thing I need to get too. Any info you've got, or just links to threads is greatly appreciated. Once I get going again I'll get some oics up in the Z forum. Years ago I found factory fenders and hood at a dealer!!, and I'm running a stock 81 motor/4 speed, in case you were wondering, and yes it runs and drives. You guys always have great budget friendly ideas so I look forward to the info! -Brian
  12. Call a local dealer, you might be surprised what they have lying around....unless your in omaha, i bought the last couple sets at my local dealer a few yaers back:-)
  13. I can get pictures in the garage later. Where the dent is on a z there is unibody structure behind it with 2 small (inch or two) access holes. I think i can get a wooden dowl angled through to tap some of the dent out. The washer idea isnt to bad! Thanks!
  14. Crap! Just realized i posted one topic to low! This was obviously meant for the body work section-sorry guys!
  15. I have a pretty nasty dent between my door frame and fender acrch on my 280z. Previous owner had it filled with way to much filler. To me i really need a spot weld dent puller, but money is an issue, as usual. Anyone gotten creative on this topic? I have a wire feed mig. I was thinking of tacking a wire, cutting the current and feeding a couple inches, then using a slide hammer with some sort of drill chuck to clamp the wire-assuming the wire/weld would hold. Also thought about getting some small bolts, tacking them all over the the dented area, and making a thread on slide hammer out of all thread and a weight. Either way its going to need a skim coat of filler. Cant get behind it at all for hammer/dolly because of the body structure. I just want to get it pulled as much as possible. Short of buying a stud gun, who has ideas????? Thanks!
