Hey Charlie, what I did to make room for my battery in my 521 diesel was I cut the inner fender well level with the battery tray base towards the outside fender likely 4 inches, since I have not lowered the truck it made no difference on tire clearance.

I then welded in a new piece of metal(triangle) on the firewall end, the other end has the canister type air filter housing welded into the inner fender also, you can see I don't have a lot of room for anything in this engine compartment.

Thanks Wayno.  I am running Beltech lowered spindles on my 520 plus a tortion bar reindex.   With the short J13 engine compartment it will be tight after the AC dryer is mounted between the fire wall and the battery.  I will take some pictures tonight after I set the shortened battery box in place.

Hobo I plan to redo pictures in this and my 86 and my 85 threads.  I will also redo picture in my how to threads if they are still editable.

That's my 1969 Datsun 521 kingcab diesel with the stepside box, I put a turbocharger on it recently and it ran great, now it is losing power at freeway speeds, not really to bad on side streets, thought I had it fixed, now it's bad again.

I have changed just about everything except the head gasket and injection pump itself, I have been trying to fix it since just before Canby with no joy so far.

I went back to see how much room you have in that area, and all your photos are gone, even the first ones originally hosted by someone other than PB.

I was wondering how much room you have back by the firewall over the starter, but I just now remembered you have or will have air-conditioning & heating lines in that area, so that kinda gets in the way if the lines are high on the firewall, that area is where all the extra room is on these trucks(520/521/620), but you have a custom setup in there as I recall.

I am having a 219 head rebuilt right now, I am going to remove the W53 head with the RV cam, it is a dog off the line(has no torque) unless I rev it up and I don't drive like that, so that SSS head with a stock cam should fix the issue, I already have the ARP stud kit, just waiting for the head to be done.

I figured out how I am going to adjust the rear windows now, I tried electric and roll up and down and neither would work, so I am going to do it the way I did the 320. The holes are where I tried the roll up mechanism that didn't work, I will fill the holes eventually.

Nice work Wayno, very simple window system.

I am curious as to why the power window mechanisms would not work.

You are correct on the AC and heater hoses in the firewall area   I will also have a 620 windshield washer bottle mounted on the firewall like the 620's have.

I had my brother weld a modified bracket back on the side of the Nissan Quest battery box.

Soon as I figure out a photo host I will post some pictures.

I uploaded 763 pictures to Imgur yeterday and when I was done uploading I had over 2300 photos in Imgur.  Some reason I had 3 of everything so I deleted my imgur account.

I miss how easy it was to organize my picture files on PhotoBucket.  I might have to bite the bullet and do a website to host my own pictures.

I wonder if you could use a linear actuator to give you a power option...

The electric window mechanisms I have were too wide, I could not fit them in the available space, they needed  more than the 16/17 inches of space I have front to rear.

DSCN6840.jpg

I went online and found setups that had the motor at the bottom of the track that were very expensive, but they had very bad reviews, a lot of them said "didn't work out of box" or "only worked 3/4 times", I just wasn't going to spend that kind of money with them kind of reviews.

So I did that simple setup that I could make myself without spending a cent after trying the modified roll up and down mechanism.

DSCN6836.jpg

Here is the driver side, I drilled the holes in the wrong place the first time.

DSCN6853.jpg

I am using the postimage option on the NWD website that is part of the forum(didn't have to open a personal account), I like it but what happens to the photos is also out of my hands as they are hosted on another site also, the photos are not downloaded directly to the forum like on MGE and the Nissan diesel forum(photos hosted by the forum itself), they will be there as long as the forum is there.

I was asked to not use any other way to post photos on the Nissan diesel forum, as the owner said the photos would disappear for one reason or another someday, and what he said is true, you can go to my threads there and see all my photos are gone till a certain date, and all the rest are there from that date on, but if you host your own photos on your own website when you quit paying for the website the photos go away.

There is not a lot of room in the 520 engine bay, you made more room the way you did it making your own tunnel and all, unfortunately the photos are gone. :(

Yes, but you could change hosts any time and move your files to the new host and have them continue to work. As long as you maintain the same domain name and file/directory structure your pictures will work forever.

I see why the electric window did not work Wayno.

I think I will hold off on the pictures until I have my own website.  Thank you for the information Matt.

I bit the bullet and loaded my images on PostImage.

I took this stock Nissan Quest battery box and removed all the brackets, cut 2" out of it, am\nd trimmed all the unneeded pieces of the bracket I was going to use.  I had my brother Garret weld it back together.

This is the stock Quest battery box.

Brackets removed.

Finished custom Battery box.  I try to repurpose everything I can.

I am also checking paint colors for my 520.

Gene had this sample of 1967 Datsun Cherry Red 525 made up for me.

DSC02665.jpg

I like it but it being a red color is more expensive than going with the Manderin Orange Pearl By Kirker.

Kirker Mandarin Orange Pearl

Kirker_Mandarin_Orange_Pearl.jpg

I like the Kirker Mararin Orange Pearl but it will cost more to have painted.  I am figuring $4.000 for body work and paint for labor with me providing the the materials.  Materials will be about $2,000 so I will be into this paint job about $6,000 dollars.  But this will be an eye catcher.  Can you say "Chick Magnet"  LOL

I know what you mean Wayno.  After I get my website up and running I am thinking about doing a complete build with no comments on my website.  I will keep up dating this information and pictures as I have time to do so.  Photobucket really put the screws to many people, businesses and governments world wide.  I hope by their greed it brings they're company to bankrupcy.
